Dickpandering in feminism

Is anyone else a bit nonplussed at this? Feminism is surely by women and for women. In order for it to have any hope of succeeding it must centre women and be women led. We keep saying that men cannot come into women’s spaces, even if they identify as women, yet we seem to be championing men who do the bare minimum or who speak over the top of talented, diligent, hardworking women and take all the credit. Who silence women using block lists or by muscling them out of groups for disagreeing with them or pointing out that theyre speaking for women rather than elevating our voices.

Why is Glinner, for example, being lauded for writing a piece on Challenor when women shared all that information months ago? He’s busy kicking women out of working groups whilst taking credit for their work. If he called himself a woman whilst doing this we’d have no truck with it.

Just because these men don’t claim womanhood doesn’t mean they’re not infiltrating women’s spaces. We need to pay attention.

Well, what is your vision.

You'd prefer men who see a problem to keep out of it?

I don't particularly see feminists pandering to a lot of male leaders. There are some men who they appreciate because they are human beings who want to help, or are talented communicators, or have some good ideas or insights. But by far it's female dominated.

You also can't expect men to simply accept the ideas feminists propose without question, as if it's the final word. If you want them to pay attention you have to accept they may want to engage with what feminists have said. I think there are a fair number of men who don't because they feel they'd be unwelcome, but it means they also don't really see it as something that they need to pay attention to.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 17:12

This again. Jfc

Manclife1 · 25/07/2019 17:15

If you want to change the world you’ll find it difficult to do if you exclude half of it in the process.

VickyEadie · 25/07/2019 17:17

Is Glinner "busy kicking women out of working groups whilst taking credit for their work" ?

SwearyWhitehouse · 25/07/2019 17:17

It’s hardly excluding half the world to ask that women’s voices are elevated rather than spoken over. That feminism centres women and that we don’t crowd round thanking men for talking over the top of us.

OP posts:
ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 25/07/2019 17:20

I respect those men because it would be easy for them to shrug and do nothing because it doesn't affect them directly. But, they see the issue affecting other people and they are choosing to get involved. Doesn't make them better than the women fighting this battle but I think it's important to acknowledge them.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 17:20

Relax, a handful of people simply said thanks. As they do for any articles women write that get shared here. He’s not talking over, he’s adding to. Get over it.

VickyEadie · 25/07/2019 17:22

Anyone? Serious question - is Glinner "busy kicking women out of working groups whilst taking credit for their work"?

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 25/07/2019 17:23

It's also worth adding that the men in question - Glinner, Gervais etc. - happen to be high profile and can carry the message further.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/07/2019 17:28

is Glinner "busy kicking women out of working groups whilst taking credit for their work"?

yes, I'd really like to hear more about this...?

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/07/2019 17:32

I appreciate high profile people writing about this. High profile women would be more demonised than a man, see the Julies Birchill and Bindel. They're so easily written off by masses as 'crazy women.'

Everyone loves father ted etc. So I appreciate that his voice will be noticed.

Men tend to listen more to men too.

In this case I'm happy to use the patriarchy to further the message.

I don't feel quite as appreciative towards a man as I do a woman though, simply because I do feel they're - to a point - less vulnerable. I appreciate glinner has had some shit. I don't feel his career is as affected as a woman's might be. I feel more appreciation for Posie and certainly Heather B E and Michelle Moore who are risking their whole careers.

So I do understand the sentiments in the OP.

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/07/2019 17:33

But if this is true, I'm not keen.

Glinner "busy kicking women out of working groups whilst taking credit for their work"?

feelingverylazytoday · 25/07/2019 17:33

The more people that speak out about Chanellor the better, imo. But I think it's bigger than a feminist issue anyway, everyone should care about safeguarding.

Amalfimamma · 25/07/2019 17:34

Yes just today he blocked a promeniemt feminist kicking her out of numerous working groups

Feminism is surely by women and for women

Fair enough.

We keep saying that men cannot come into women’s spaces, even if they identify as women, yet we seem to be championing men who do the bare minimum or who speak over the top of talented, diligent, hardworking women and take all the credit

This is not a specifically feminist issue. It is a decent human being issue.

I do not give a tinker's fart who puts a stop to the dangerous nonsense that is trans ideology, men, women, lesser spotted woodpeckers.......I don't care, I just want it stopped. Permanently.

There are feminists who have been amazing working towards that goal (Germaine Greer) and feminists who are the whole bloody problem (Laurie Penny). So I care not one jot about whether people think it is or isn't a 'win' for feminism if the horror show ends.

And I am happy for the support of anyone who takes practical measures towards ending it. I'll take the support of right wing men like David TC Davis (thanks for hosting women when other MPs are throwing us under a bus), or the Trump supporting UFC President Dana White (thanks Dana for banning XY trans people from competing against women in your organisation), just as much as that of left leaning women like Joan McAlpine or Sarah Ditum.

This is too important to turn into men v women or left v right. Women are being sexually assaulted. Children are being mutilated FFS, I don't care whose nose is out of joint, just make it stop.

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 25/07/2019 17:38

I'd assume OP is talking about the Faircop/Harrytheowl stuff.

OP I don't think that's fair, particularly in the FWR boards I think we do hold women's voices much higher than men. However, on this topic I do think more men need to speak up, it is annoying how people haven't taken notice of us, I agree but so much is at stake, I don't really care who speaks up now and who takes the credit.

Babdoc · 25/07/2019 17:39

I see what you’re getting at, but surely we have enough enemies to deal with (TRAs, MRAs, etc) without turning on our allies?
Should we have told the USA to piss off when they came in to help us in WW2?
Arguably, they pinched a lot of the credit afterwards, (or at least Hollywood portrayed it that way), but would you have rather lost the war on our own, than accept powerful help?
Surely the end result is what matters here, rather than how or by whom it’s achieved?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 17:40

Amalfimamma

Who? What group? Receipts?

VickyEadie · 25/07/2019 17:40

Yes just today he blocked a promeniemt feminist kicking her out of numerous working groups

Who? Which groups? I genuinely want to know.

GlitchStitch · 25/07/2019 17:43

DrEm says he's blocked her.

Goosefoot · 25/07/2019 17:44

It's worse than that, I saw him kick a feminist in the shin.

Goosefoot · 25/07/2019 17:45

Blocked on twitter?
Not quite a working group.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 25/07/2019 17:46

Thank you, Arnold, for saving me the effort of typing in this heat

TerfTalk · 25/07/2019 17:47

Are you being serious Goose? Shock

Endofthedays · 25/07/2019 17:48

I heard he compared feminists to otters, and said their hats are too fancy.
