"So who thinks this was made by accident and totally innocently? #pornculture t.co/JGfzd3uh0P"

twitter.com/SaraBrechGC/status/1148955967683534849?s=19

And their response:

We created this campaign from a place of joy, especially the joy of cake. This image was curated by a diverse group of Konditor team members from different races, sexualities & inclusive of all genders. (1/2)

This image was never intended to be offensive or derogatory, it's just a person enjoying a slice of cake. The campaign includes images of everyone enjoying cake. (2/2) t.co/baAjRd0HLD

Look at what our favourite doctor has tweeted about this. He really is just a fucking troll isn't he, his parents must be so proud.

'the taste of representation' - especially when what's being represented is the pornified sexual humiliation of a woman.

Mother87 · 13/07/2019 09:36

Complained✅

Mother87 · 13/07/2019 09:37

And hope they throw it over THEIR faces😬

Datun · 13/07/2019 09:38

Eaudear

His use of the phrase lap it up? All the grubby schoolboys in the country congregate on Twitter, don't they.

SaraB93 · 13/07/2019 09:51

Oh no, not him too. Urgh, I always get a shiver when I see his face.
I really should concentrate on German matters instead of being involved in this stuff 😂 I don't care when people shit talk me in general. What bothers me is that they just don't care about women. Gay people complained and they answered pretty fast and changed it. They probably had the support of the LGBTQ letter soup. But nobody cares about women.

CriticalCondition · 13/07/2019 10:01

Just to clarify my earlier post about the ad showing a man being fed cake in case it looked like I'm on Konditor's side. I'm not.

I think the type of cake chosen for the man's image (I'm guessing Red Velvet) was no accident, people make their living at this sort of thing after all, it's what they're paid for.

But having a male counterpart picture doesn't detract from the fact that the image with the woman is degrading and pornified. If anything the fact that they've done the same thing in the man's picture demonstrates how their choices on how to represent the 'joy of cake' are deliberate. There is a theme to the campaign and the choices made for each ad will not be random. The difference is that the man is not degraded or objectified.

I've used the helpful link above to complain to the ASA.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/07/2019 10:25

Just seen this. The image of food smeared all over someone's face, whether it's meant to be sexual or not, doesn't make me want that food - it's just gross!

SophoclesTheFox · 13/07/2019 10:31

Inclusive cake?

As opposed to a homophobic scone, or a racist muffin?

It’s not the cake that’s the issue, Aidey, you noodle, it’s the degrading representation of women. You don’t see it because your own shocking misogyny blinds you. Dur.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 13/07/2019 10:40

That's a doctor, a medic with unparalleled access to women when they are vulnerable and undressed chortling over and defending an image of a pornified image of a woman. He really thinks he's teflon doesn't he? There are few lows that he won't sink to.
I so pity any woman faced with him in a medical consultation.

Eaudear · 13/07/2019 10:40

His use of the phrase lap it up? All the grubby schoolboys in the country congregate on Twitter, don't they.

Yes, and also 'I just can't get enough of'.

I know I am only giving him the attention he craves by posting here but he really is something else. I said it about Stephanie Hayden and it really does apply to Harrop as well: I have never been in a relationship or close to someone who is abusive or gaslighty or a dick. I know it happens, I'm pretty sure it happens with some of my friends, but I've never seen it first hand? To see it so obviously with these people on Twitter (and when they come onto MN as well) in real time, is such an eye opener. I didn't really realise that people would be quite so blatant tbh.

CriticalCondition · 13/07/2019 10:42

Two pictures, one of a man, one of a woman.
Same theme, the joy of sex cake.
One is degrading of the subject.

Guess which.

If it was 'inclusive' there'd be a picture of a woman feeding another woman with a suggestive slice of Red Velvet.

Floisme · 13/07/2019 10:50

It reminds me of the Fiat (I think it was Fiat) advert in the late seventies: 'if it were a lady it would get it's bottom pinched.'

Someone spray painted one of them, 'If this lady were a car she'd run you down' and took photos. I had a print of it over my desk at work and was told to take it down.

Floisme · 13/07/2019 11:13

I forgot to say, this was an office where men routinely pinned up 'girly calendars' but I was told my photo was aggressive. Sometimes I think things have changed, other times not so much.

FannyCann · 13/07/2019 13:34

Never heard of Konditor cakes. The adverts are gross. But Twitter has its pleasures and for those of you not on twitter I bring this gem.

LassOfFyvie · 13/07/2019 13:44

It's in the window of their branch at Waterloo. It's the only image from this campaign which features that way.

The idea of semen icing is now inextricably linked with this brand.

That's brilliant! Thank you for sharing that gem, FannyCann. Grin

LassOfFyvie · 13/07/2019 13:46

Also from Twitter

I’ve spent the last three hours eating cake (not yours obviously) & no matter how I eat it, even cream cake, I cannot recreate that effect. Could you post a video of how eating cake creates that effect? Maybe as I’m a bloke it doesn’t work for me??

FannyCann · 13/07/2019 13:53

CriticalCondition · 13/07/2019 13:53

I think the poster needs a sticker with Lemon Jizzle or Spaffenberg to go on it.

FannyCann · 13/07/2019 13:54

Please no one let Jill Archer hear about this. (One for the Archers fans).

CriticalCondition · 13/07/2019 13:55

You too, Lass. Grin

arranbubonicplague · 13/07/2019 13:59

Twitter has its pleasures and for those of you not on twitter I bring this gem.
SS states:

most women don't love the taste of semen

So much so that there are adult novelty tasting strips to mitigate the taste of oral sex. (I learned this when looking up something on dysphagia and a project that used tasting strips to improve the food enjoyment of people with this distressing disorder.)

FannyCann · 13/07/2019 14:00

Seriously though. What the hell is it with advertisers and pictures of women with goo on their faces? There was the toothpaste one. Am I right in thinking there was one for milk or a milky drink as well?

It's not just the sexism. It's the general gross, lewd level of vulgarity which is apparently not just the norm but a top sales technique. And any objectors are humourless prudes. Angry
