"So who thinks this was made by accident and totally innocently? #pornculture t.co/JGfzd3uh0P"

twitter.com/SaraBrechGC/status/1148955967683534849?s=19

And their response:

twitter.com/konditorcakes/status/1149324367089848332?s=19

We created this campaign from a place of joy, especially the joy of cake. This image was curated by a diverse group of Konditor team members from different races, sexualities & inclusive of all genders. (1/2)

This image was never intended to be offensive or derogatory, it's just a person enjoying a slice of cake. The campaign includes images of everyone enjoying cake. (2/2) t.co/baAjRd0HLD

They thought they were being cheeky, because the degradation of women is so normalised.

What they were being is complicit in the degradation of women.

Lifepanic1234 · 12/07/2019 14:10

Link for complaining: www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html it is quick to do. I complained.

Melroses · 12/07/2019 14:38

maybe we should be thankful it is not chocolate brownies @Melroses**

Yes, I saw that after I posted. They had already been there. Grim.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 12/07/2019 15:20

It is remarkably straightforward to complain about these creepy guys. The relentless pornification of women and displaying degrading images of women like this (in a cake shop ffs), needs challenging.

SaraB93 · 12/07/2019 15:22

I am the one who posted it. A lot of anime characters and even a blue tick on twitter found my tweet. I had to mute it. So many people are insulting me now as a prude or whatever. They also compare my neutral picture of a flower which resembles a vulva with this disgusting advertisement. They really try to tell me they didn't see anything pornified with it. Pretty bad liars.
(I found this ad else where where men already made fun of it and wanted to add an brazzers logo to it)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 15:24

Why argue? It's like trying to persuade a roomful of toddlers jagged on Sunny Delight to sit down quietly and listen to Bach. Not gonna happen.

ChattyLion · 12/07/2019 15:34

Sara, sorry about the shit you are getting on Twitter for telling the truth.
Those a-holes clogging up your Twitter to mansplain and mock women haven’t dared to wander on to MN with their marvellous opinions, I notice..

Look how women have reacted to this gross advert on here, where they are not being attacked for stating the obvious about this misogynistic ad campaign.

thanks for sticking your head above the parapet and good for you. Flowers

Lifepanic1234 · 12/07/2019 15:57

Well done SaraB93 and sorry you are being giving grief by the Anime Brigade. It is an awful advert and I hope they take it down. We aren't stupid - we know the difference between the joy of messy cake (this pic) and their advert.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 12/07/2019 16:10

Well done SaraB93.
Sadly the pro porn, anti women brigade are in an ascendency at the moment - both on Twitter, in cake shops and almost everywhere. We just have to koko.
And those comments about the flower - like it's a gotcha! Fuckwits.

Datun · 12/07/2019 16:16

They also compare my neutral picture of a flower which resembles a vulva with this disgusting advertisement.

That's because they are so mired in female demeaning pornography, they don't understand the difference between celebration and objectification.

It's true that there is no upside to arguing with diehard sexists, who don't just want to demean women, they don't even see it as demeaning.

Would they like to see their mum with that all over her face? If it's so neutral? Or their little girl?

Because it's only a bit of fun, right? It's only cake?

It's extraordinary that when women tell men how they are degrading them, the men fucking argue!!

Oh I'm sorry, I must be mistaken that I feel degraded.

Dear lord. Wankers.

Datun · 12/07/2019 16:18

And I bet you they would rather you didn't show a picture of a vulva resembling flower. It's too nice. It's not demeaning enough. It's a celebration of womanhood which is empowering to women. Not objectification of women which is demeaning and disempowering.

Avoid them whenever you can. They'll just taint your life.

Boom25 · 12/07/2019 16:52

Hi Sara glad you found the link😁 and sorry your twitter is clogged up with the terminally woke.

Hamster00 · 12/07/2019 17:28

Sorry but that picture is vile. It's OBVIOUS what the representation is - mouth open, face "covered".

It's just another representation of porn culture, it's f'ing demeaning to women and utterly un-necessary. I hate that is so normalised too.

They KNEW what they were doing...

While I'm wound up Im off to complain to ASA...

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/07/2019 18:15

I made the Konditor curly wurly cake recipe linked upthread

good flavour but texture a little powdery. not a patch on the primsrose bakery chocolate cake, so won't be entering my repertoire

it didn't come on my face though, so there's that

Konditor - joy through cake advert
Erythronium · 12/07/2019 18:25

Weirdly the white icing on my lunchtime iced bun melted in the heat today and unfortunately looked something like the stuff in the advert. Fuck you Konditor for even making me think about that. That's what men's pornification does - turns everyday objects into something sexual (something used to degrade women).

I don't think the male advert has anything to do with cunnilingus, it's just a man enjoying being fed cake. There clearly isn't a subtext. It's a mistake to imagine that because they do it to a woman they must be doing it to a man as well.

CriticalCondition · 12/07/2019 19:03

it's just a man enjoying being fed cake

Hmm, I'm not so sure. It's deep red cake, it has a line of icing which visually divides it in half. Why did they chose that one of all the dozens and dozens of cakes they could have picked? Why not a vanilla sponge or choc chip brownie?

Coincidence, I don't think so.

SaraB93 · 12/07/2019 21:06

Thanks for all the kind words. Yes, I pretty fast muted it when I recognised the "wrong" people retweeted it. Even bigger accounts do this now. Here for example and again with the flower comparison:

Lumene · 12/07/2019 21:24

Shock thegreat that isn’t good

ExtraFox19 · 12/07/2019 21:33

That’s vile.

Datun · 12/07/2019 21:59

The shop staff complained about the poster but were told it was just a bit of fun, and they should get over it.

I don't think it comes as much of a shock that some men think the degradation and objectification of women is 'fun'.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 13/07/2019 00:22

SaraB93 I have a slight crush on your twitter pic!! I love it.It really stands out and what you have to say is always interesting.
I'm not on twitter though, just a lurker, got banned my first day for saying someone, who we are not allowed name, is a man. 👀

MagneticSingularity · 13/07/2019 03:27

“It’s just a bit of fun, just get over it.”

Hmm, like I haven’t heard a million variations on that theme from the age of puberty up to the age of invisibility as a female. I’ve officially gone right off cake. Thanks Konditor.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/07/2019 08:43

every one of those stupid fuckers on the twitter thread has an anime profile. seriously, what is it with these people?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 13/07/2019 08:47

They really try to tell me they didn't see anything pornified with it.

That's because they are surrounded by it, the goal is to desensitise people, the goal works.
