"So who thinks this was made by accident and totally innocently? #pornculture t.co/JGfzd3uh0P"

twitter.com/SaraBrechGC/status/1148955967683534849?s=19

And their response:

twitter.com/konditorcakes/status/1149324367089848332?s=19

We created this campaign from a place of joy, especially the joy of cake. This image was curated by a diverse group of Konditor team members from different races, sexualities & inclusive of all genders. (1/2)

This image was never intended to be offensive or derogatory, it's just a person enjoying a slice of cake. The campaign includes images of everyone enjoying cake. (2/2) t.co/baAjRd0HLD

I actually think whoever sat on the panel who approved this should be congratulated for royally taking the piss out of a bunch of gullible fools.

powershowerforanhour · 12/07/2019 06:56

Perhaps they want us to know that they wank into the icing before applying it to the cake?
I don't know how hands on they are with it all though
Let's hope not.

Personally I just see a slightly naff advert of a woman who has been scoffing cake

truthisarevolutionaryact · 12/07/2019 07:03

Then maybe read the thread TeaForDad and see how many women view this?

Teatime round your house must be an eye opener teafordad Shock

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 12/07/2019 07:13

So the advert was "curated" by a diverse group of genders (WTF), sexualities and ethnicities and they went with a young white woman with spunk along over her face. That really shows how far we have come as a society.

I wonder what the age range of the "curators" were and what was their socio-economic background. They were clearly more of a homogeneous group then they made themselves out to be.

Oh and I do think women's voices so easily get lost amongst a diverse group of genders. IE prodonately, young, probably affluent / middle class men.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 12/07/2019 07:20

Interesting on their Twitter response they have 2 or 3 images of men eating cake and they are all being fed by young female slender hands.

Clearly these cake makers are super progressive.

Don't be silly chickennuggets of course they're super progressive - just look at that beard. You can tell he's just the kind of guy to know how to explain feminism to his female friends. (That's actually why the woman is feeding him cake. She's not being submissive, she's trying to shut him up. Because if he mentions sex positive feminism and intersectionality misconstrued as oppression top trumps one more time she's going to lose it.)

Thanks everyone- this thread has really inspired me to step up my baking.
I got up early today and knocked up a dozen cumcakes to take in to work. On the rack now, filling the whole place with that lovely warm smell of bleach. Smile

Yes Konditor, you have now firmly cemented the idea of Spunk Cake into women's (your main target market minds) minds. Well done.

Juells · 12/07/2019 07:46

You'd think that the ads would be 'curated' by the group of consumers that mostly buy cakes - women. How many men, in all honesty, buy cakes?

SunsetBeetch · 12/07/2019 07:58

Joani Walsh giving them what for:

"You recently gave in to an attack about the name of one your products by two prominent gay men, one the LGBT journalist Patrick Strudwick. Despite being founded by gay men and the title being old-fashioned British humour you gave in. If you don’t listen to women now...

...when you listened to gay men you will be proving only the misogyny of gay men. If you called a product Fudgepacker you know damn well what this picture simulates. Trust me. I’m the women’s rights journalist to Strudwick’s men’s rights one. No woman looks like this after cake.

That this image was curated (curated? seriously?) by a mix of team members THAT DOESN’T BOTHER MENTIONING ANY WOMEN is telling. ‘K&C is a gay owned and gay run company.’ Where are the women, men?"

Noviceoftheweek · 12/07/2019 08:22

‘All genders?’ Give me strength. Hmm

Erythronium · 12/07/2019 08:39

Using provocative (wel,l obsecene) imagery is a tired marketing technique to gain attention. This is probably what is going on here. I'd never heard of Konditor before.

Juells · 12/07/2019 08:41

I'd never heard of Konditor before.

...and now they'll be forever associated in your head with spunk 😜

Erythronium · 12/07/2019 08:50

Hahaha, yes. A cake shop to be avoided.

Has anybody tweeted Nigella Lawson about this? She seems to be their celebrity endorser.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 08:51

I’ve never seen an adult eat cake like that. Unless it’s one of those cheesy wedding cake photos.

LangCleg · 12/07/2019 08:51

What next? A nice slice of New York jizzcake?

ChattyLion · 12/07/2019 08:52

Ooh Joani is ace. I didn’t know about that whole backstory.

More comments from women here, some of whom have @‘ed the Advertising Standards Authority who regulate ads IRL and online: mobile.twitter.com/konditorcakes/status/1149326637051326466

So from Joani’s tweet it looks like if Konditor and Cook’s marketing is found offensive by just two men it gets withdrawn- so I’m sure once their PR team arrive at work today they’ll be ALL OVER THIS, given its obviously an offensive misogynistic reinforcement of porn culture and a lot of women have told them so.

And K&C will be promising to employ a diverse pool of women in their advertising and marketing teams and to consult women on their campaigns and promise to listen to women when the company gets it wrong. That would be actual #JoyThroughCake. Cake Brew

growlingbear · 12/07/2019 08:58

Has anyone ever seen an adult woman bite into a cake and look like that afterwards? Did the model just bite into a slice of cake and happen to have goo all over her face? Or did it have to be strategically smeared.

I feel like asking: what's wrong with you cake, Konditor? It's clear she didn't swallow.
