I hope she presses charges. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he has form for DV.

That video has given me such a chill feeling.

Totur · 21/06/2019 20:09

Yes Helena - don't think police can't make things not be there.

Goosefoot · 21/06/2019 21:28

Yes, if the queen refused to acknowledge a PM it would be a constitutional crises.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 22:29

Guardian article is - surprisingly - open to comments. Get in before they shut it:

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 22:31

Shit. Comments closed just as I posted the link! Typical Guardian!

Bespin · 21/06/2019 22:53

the video was Truely horrible he had no justification for his responce to her presence. it was not his job to provide security there and in no way did she attempt to attack him or make him fear for his safety. he did not even attempt to ask her to leave or Warn her in any way. he should be arrested for his actions as anyone else would be. the persons gender is totally relivent in this case as I doubt very much his responce would have been the same to a male protester. I am saddened by a lot of the responces on here justifying his actions.

Caucho · 21/06/2019 23:31

I’ve posted on another thread but believe this has been bigged up to be a mysoginist issue for political reasons to though of course it could be true. My only problem with the outrage (there’s at least 5 Guardian articles piling in now) is the hypocrisy and biasm.

The most voice full woke folk are the same people who say fuck all about the aggressive far left, laugh at milkshake attacks and support the violent TRA crew.

Isatis · 21/06/2019 23:38

Classic "Look over there" argument, Caucho. How do you know that people condemning this are silent about other forms of violence?

Woke is such a tired term of abuse.

Caucho · 21/06/2019 23:44

To answer your question Isatis I’m obviously not aiming this at everyone. Just the hypocritical people. How do I know they are silent? Because they don’t go mental and write articles and harness their Twitter disciples on some issues and do on others when it fits their agenda.

OccasionalKite · 21/06/2019 23:46

He would not have done that to a man.

Caucho · 22/06/2019 00:00

Calling out and raging about some old white funny duddy MP is alright apparently and a representation of ‘Tory’ mysogny but attacking lesbian people like Julie Bindel is justified apparently. And don’t get me started with the likes of the Challenors in the Lib Dems.

For all your insulations IcedPurple I’m not a right wing Tommy Robinson supporter and am ‘liberal’ by nature but want nothing to do with far left identity politics. This incident is a classic example which could be flipped around according to whether people are a Tory or Labour member. Being honest it doesn’t look good and probably just isn’t good but the pile on is out of proportion

ixqik · 22/06/2019 00:05

So he has a habit of intimidating women then.

If he gets charged he deserves it but shouldn’t have been in that position. Security were obviously shit and if she herself wasn’t a danger someone could have been. I need to shut up now as it’s sounding like I’m a fan of Mark Field. It’s only the media reaction which pisses me off. Hopefully Boris gets fucked by the new story. I know Jeremy Hunt isn’t popular but when you’ve got a choice of two I know who’s the lesser of evels

OccasionalKite · 22/06/2019 00:15

That man is a thug and should never have been allowed anywhere near government, let alone a ministerial post.

How many more of them are there?

Yes, I'm glad he is suspended. The way he grabbed that woman, who was no actual threat to him. He''s an abuser.

Whoops75 · 22/06/2019 00:18

The seated onlookers are as guilty imo

BitOfFun · 22/06/2019 00:28

@InionEile I'm not sure that everybody commenting is a FWR regular. I hope not, anyway.

OccasionalKite · 22/06/2019 00:33

The main guilt remains with the former Foreign Office minister Mark Field being a thug, and using his maleness to commit violence on a woman involved in a peaceful protest..

I spit at him.

Hithere12 · 22/06/2019 07:28

To be honest it’s times like these I’m thankful we have a female PM who has at least taken a strong stance on this. Boris/Hunt have not commented or condemned this.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 22/06/2019 09:43

I assume most on this thread are on the aibu thread and can see some of the posters on here and how their ‘opinions ‘ appear to be very different

Quite useful

IcedPurple · 22/06/2019 11:04

I suggest ignoring the poster called 'Caucho'. He/she has made it clear that he/she is motivated by tired, not to say confused, political views about Corbyn/The Guardian/lefties/Julie Bindel etc.

Little point in trying to get into a discussion.

IcedPurple · 22/06/2019 11:05

@InionEile I'm not sure that everybody commenting is a FWR regular. I hope not, anyway.

I said something similar this time yesterday. Not that you have to be part of a 'club' to post here but still, it's interesting....

HumberElla · 22/06/2019 11:09

ixqik that tweet tells us everything we need to know really.

Just can’t wait to show women how intimidating he can be and put them back in their place.

Whosorrynow · 22/06/2019 11:24

I wonder what he does behind closed doors

FeministCat · 22/06/2019 11:35

Yikes, that tweet! So yes, more confirmation that he sees smaller women and knows his body is intimidating. So he uses it to get what he wants.

But yeah, clearly he must have felt this protestor - wearing her high heels, her dress, holding her phone, walking by - was a threat to him when no one else at the event did and was just trying to “escort her out”. /s

What a disgusting man.

What is it with people here and in AIBU claiming she was holding some mysterious “something” in her hand, anyway? It is all very obvious to anyone who takes 29 seconds to watch the video it’s a phone...same for all those alleging she pushed at him, has a “mean look”, and so on. If you are going to try and gaslight people that this was an appropriate reaction at least watch the video first.

I am equally disgusted by the gaslighting as the number of people supporting this man’s actions or this kind of reaction in general. And falling all over themselves to do it! The hatred for women and the condonation of men “being intimidating” to get what they want (be it stopping music being played or stopping a peaceful protest) is palpable. You can call it “managing a threat” or “frogmarching” or whatever else: the video, and her own report of the incident where she clearly highlights she was scared, hurt, and trying to diffuse (saying she would walk out on her own!) show it was the violent act it was. Which Field intended it to be, you know, because he knows his body and size are “intimidating”.
