I hope she presses charges. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he has form for DV.

and what the fuck, look at them all clapping at the end, I'm reminded of the playground, people gathering round and chanting fight fight fight fight fight

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:24

The tory party coffin seems to require a lot of nails - but I think they've lost 50% of the vote i.e. women.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:26

I dunno @Totur

Look at the AIBU thread - I've quoted from it above. Assuming most of the posters are women and not MRA trolls (though I acknowledge that is a possibility) quite a few women are applauding Field for his 'bravery'.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:27

I guarantee you they're die hard Tories or men. No reasonable, sane, intelligent, educated woman would condone this cunt's actions.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:28

I guarantee you they're die hard Tories or men. No reasonable, sane, intelligent, educated woman would condone this cunt's actions.

Much as I'd love to agree with you, I'm not sure if I can.

There are plenty of ostensibly intelligent 'cool girls' out there.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:29

Also MN is NEVER representative of the general population - just look at Brexit etc. It seems to be predominately Tory, middle class. They wouldn't like their lovely gala dinner being interrupted by crusty protestors. Please don't think MN is how the general population thinks.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:30

It seems to be predominately Tory, middle class.

Perhaps, but your claim was that Field's behaviour would lead to a dramatic drop in female support for the Tories. Sadly, I don't think that's true.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:31

There should be no place for this sort of unprovoked violence against a woman in politics.
If there are women condoning it, I'll just say, don't come crying to me when your darling husband slams you against the wall and forces you out of your home by squeezing your neck. You can fuck off.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:33

@IcedPurple You'd be surprised how many women have been victims of violence by men - again - MN is not remotely representative. Plus, most of the supporters on this thread are clearly MEN!

MrsBethel · 21/06/2019 18:36

Rufus
I’m in the ‘someone needs to tell him that was a bit much’ camp. But everyone calm down FFS.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:38

a bit much

If your DH comes home this evening and you tell him he's a wanker, and he slams you against the wall, grabs you by the neck and forces you out of the house - would you be calm?

MrsBethel · 21/06/2019 18:41

Well I hope that doesn’t happen to anyone.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:44

It happened to the protester last night and she didn't even 'provoke' him.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:45

I’m in the ‘someone needs to tell him that was a bit much’ camp

Sounds to me like you believe Field should face zero consequences for his actions. Though happily, he already has.

Whisky2014 · 21/06/2019 18:47

Tbh in these days when it seems any fucker can lob acid on you or slice your throat, I'd think seeing a random person stomping up in a place she's not supposed to be in could cause concern.
I'm not sure he needed to manhandled her quite so much though but i do think he's have done the same if it was a man.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:48

How did Farage react when he was assaulted with a milk shake thrown all over him? He walked off annoyed.

This guy wasn't assaulted, yet he attacked a woman unprovoked.

Different?

Farage - normal reaction.
Field - a violent assault.

MrsBethel · 21/06/2019 18:49

I know the law is weird on it, but I actually think anyone should be able to frogmarch invaders out with reasonable force. So beyond that: it was a bit much.

He was probably pissed off because there is supposed to be security at these things and they clearly did a shit job. No excuse, though, still makes him a bit of a wanker.

HelenaDove · 21/06/2019 18:50

@IcedPurple There are some people who like to bend and twist feminism and equality to suit their own agenda.

A couple of the posters on the AIBU thread are all for equality when it comes to women paying their way on a date.

The ones who say "well you wanted equality so you got it" are coming out with the same trope as this to excuse Fields behaviour.

Which proves the point i made on previous threads That some men only want to get on board with the parts of feminism that suit their agenda....................and their wallet.

Totur · 21/06/2019 18:50

So you're blaming acid attacks on his reaction?

Ye, so many women and greenpeace protesters (I believe they're renowned for it) throwing acid these days..........

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:50

Tbh in these days when it seems any fucker can lob acid on you or slice your throat, I'd think seeing a random person stomping up in a place she's not supposed to be in could cause concern.

She wasn't really 'random'. She was part of a Greenpeace group of about 40 activists, most of whom had been dealt with by trained security officers. As for 'concern', a Sky News journalist who was present said the general attitude was one of bemusement.

Whisky2014 · 21/06/2019 18:51

How did that tommy Robinson react when he had a milkshake thrown over him?
He threw multiple punches at the milkshake thrower

AnyFucker · 21/06/2019 18:52

Your point is.... ?

MrsBethel · 21/06/2019 18:53

Totur
That you suggest we should have to treat gatecrashers exactly as we would treat people in their own homes!!! is... not something I can agree with.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2019 18:53

I actually think anyone should be able to frogmarch invaders out with reasonable force.

Please provide definitions of 'frogmarch' and 'reasonable'.

He was probably pissed off because there is supposed to be security at these things and they clearly did a shit job.

Why? There were about 40 protesters there and all were dealt with without too much fuss. I expect that if Field hadn't gone all vigilante, they would have done the same with Barber within seconds.

But yes, the fact that a few of our betters had their posh dinner interrrupted is the real issue here.

Whisky2014 · 21/06/2019 18:54

Ye, so many women and greenpeace protesters (I believe they're renowned for it) throwing acid these days..........well, it could be a tactic, couldn't it? Say you're Greenpeace and it's a peaceful protest, come in then carry out whatever they want to do.
They could be anyone.
I do think he reacted over the top and I'm sure he will pay the price.
