The mixed-race former L’Oréal model also said she had “dreaded” attending the event due to the threat she detects from “cisgender” females – those women who were assigned their gender at birth.

What does those women who were assigned their gender at birth mean Observer?

Amazes me that those who wish to live as if they had been born a woman lack insight into the lives of women (born women).

I just read the article, with its deliberate positioning on the home page, use of language such as “cis”, “threatened” and “assigned gender at birth” and I think it’s just deliberately inflammatory trolling and the best solution would be to roll the eyes and not give it any oxygen.

What is the nature of this "threat" that MB "detects" from women that MB identifies as cis-women.

Surely women who identify as cis women are fully bought into transgender ideology so would consider MB a woman.

Surely MB must be referring to adult human females who don't identify as cis women and is thus misgendering them.

So MB detects rather than experiences an undefined "threat". Essentially MB knows that not all women agree with MBs views and considers that to be a threat.

Obviously all women cis identified or not should perform ritual supplication to MBs beliefs so that MB feels unthreatened...

Let me see... You have the choice between worrying about men who might literally (in the correct sense of the word "literally") physically assault you (because yes, transphobia, in its correct sense of an irrational hatred of people who are gender non-conforming, is a real thing, but, like pretty much all other violence in the world, statistically, it's overwhelmingly carried out by men), or worrying about women who disagree with your pseudo-religious world view about gender fairies, whose only interest in the issue is defending women's spaces, but who actually support you in your right to be gender non-conforming. And you choose to be frightened of women.

I could roll my eyes and ignore, as pp suggests, if the 'assigned gender at birth' comment was a direct or indirect quote from MB. But it isn't - it is embedded in the piece, which suggests that it is now Guardian/Observer policy to trot this out as the standard definition of 'cis'. As such it's an insidious and reality-altering use of language that really should be challenged.

I would have asked MB to clarify what they mean by threat. Physical?

Or do they mean a psychological threat, either from the fact that MB is comparing themself to the women or that the women are not offering unquestioning validation?

Because the latter is not the women’s problem, it’s MBs.
