Observer: Trans model Munroe Bergdorf says she feels threatened by other women

www.theguardian.com/society/2019/mar/10/transgender-model-threat-from-women

“I don’t feel safe because of other women,” Bergdorf said to the Women of the World audience. “That’s really weighing heavily on me.”

The mixed-race former L’Oréal model also said she had “dreaded” attending the event due to the threat she detects from “cisgender” females – those women who were assigned their gender at birth.

What does those women who were assigned their gender at birth mean Observer?

MB does not approve of current discussions re male bodied people competing in women's sport. MB feels 'threatened' by women and says there is no threat to women from transwomen.... well, where to start. Male violence, see also transcrimeuk.com.

Amazes me that those who wish to live as if they had been born a woman lack insight into the lives of women (born women).

Bit short of employment prospects atm eh Bergdorf? Better start generating some new bullsh*t gender-feelz to get some airtime then.
Oh.. you already did.

Beamur · 11/03/2019 14:41

pearlkent
I noticed that too.
Extremely tiresome!

FemalePersonator · 11/03/2019 15:08

I think Burgdorf is angling to get a position as diversity advisor for the BBC.

Oldermum156 · 11/03/2019 22:07

There is a local transwoman here who complains constantly about how women are always groping her and touching her. I never see this actually happen. I have trouble picturing this scenario. How many women do you know who would deliberately go grope a man's genitals that they don't know? Maybe one or two really low-class drunk women, but he acts like it happens on a daily basis to the point that it is a nuisance. Very hard to believe.

Sexnotgender · 11/03/2019 22:17

It’s all part of the fantasy I assume oldermum156

FemalePersonator · 12/03/2019 08:28

Yeah. Fantasy.

MeAgainAgain · 12/03/2019 08:40

Thats sexual assault and your friend could go to the police

And be much more confident than a certain sort of person that doesn't have a name any more (cunty) that they would get taken seriously.

Sitdownstandup · 12/03/2019 13:35

Is it just me or is MB looking a lot paler skinned these days? MN wants to be careful, it's only your sex you're allowed to change...

BettyDuMonde · 12/03/2019 17:07

Bergdorf’s legs are a completely different tone to Bergdorf’s face in the photo that accompanies the article.

I’d attribute it to a combination of the fancy lighting rig (dragged into the dark alley/under a bridge) and the enormous amount of highlighter make up (aka gritty, urbanesque MB lookbook 2019) rather than anything transracial...

But never say never! The sky is the identity-limit nowadays.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/03/2019 18:35

Only people no have grown up socialised as men think that 'word hatred' by people you've never met constitutes a threat. Having said that, then of course if Munroe has received any actual threats, they should be reported to the police. I'm assuming not, given the dearth of publicity.

And it's interesting that MB only cites women journalists. The most widely published gender critical hacks I can think of today are men. Women tend to be more conciliatory in tone on the whole. And yet we're the threat.

Odd that.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/03/2019 18:38

And oldermum - I hear that a lot too. Given my own experiences as a middle aged woman, I'd say it's unlikely.

I can never unsee that revolting article that Lees wrote for Vice revelling in being objectified. The only women who talk like that are sex workers as part of their job.

Ereshkigal · 12/03/2019 18:49

'word hatred'

Such a ridiculous term.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/03/2019 18:56

Oh it really is. How can you take someone seriously who uses it?

AncientLights · 12/03/2019 19:22

So Munroe claims that going to the WOW meeting was the first time Munroe had been worried about attending a women's event. I seem to recall Munroe pulling out of that 'Women in film' fiasco last year at London's South Bank. The reason was given as 'security concerns'. So not the first time after all.

Ereshkigal · 12/03/2019 19:29

YY, AncientLights.

"Security concerns"? Right Hmm

hipsterfun · 12/03/2019 21:27

Even I know you’re not supposed to use so much illuminator that you give the Man in the Moon a run for his money.

Security concerns is it? Shameless.

FemalePersonator · 13/03/2019 05:37

"Word hatred" = criticism. Don't dish it out if you can't take it, Bergdorf.

HotpotLawyer · 13/03/2019 06:32

“On the one side are those who wish to protect women-only competitions from entrants who have spent part of their lives as biological men.”

I would love the Guardian to explain how tne other half has been spent, biologically. With DNA, internal organs, maybe external organs, etc remaining exactly the same.

RockyFlintstone · 13/03/2019 07:27

Munroe: 'Women are doing feminism wrong, female reproductive systems shouldn't be centred at women's events, I'm way more oppressed than cis women, this is what women are , I can define woman and make a documentary about it but you as a 'cis' woman are not allowed to define womanhood as it doesn't include meeeeeeee, I'm throwing you out because you asked me a question about concerns regarding the care of an 11 year old boy'.

Women: NO.

Munroe: Oh women are soooooooo terrifying! I'm so scared! This is all so sad!

HumberElla · 13/03/2019 11:06

Didn’t Bergdorf announce that Bergdorf felt unsafe in the middle of the channel 4 discussion thing that Cathy Newman chaired?

A invitation only forum, held in a tv studio, with several speakers sitting together being filmed and recorded talking about gender.

Unsafe.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/03/2019 11:18

DISCLAIMER: I've only read the title and not the thread.

Women feel intimidated by people like this. They are loud, opinionated, pushy (some may say aggressive) and have a conviction for violence I believe. Often taller and bulkier/stronger. That is not someone I would imagine would shy away from standing up for themselves.

Its the' new orange' innit. Claiming to feel soooo unsafe you cant be interviewed or even around these nasty gals, because they may, y'know actually literally physically hurt you by saying that humans ca'nt change sex.

Men are more likely to physically (and I mean in the real sense of the word) harm people like that.

Yet people like that have been known (shock horror) to beat up women at Hyde Park, crash around stores like Godzilla uttering threats, rape women in jails, demand self-employed women working from home and in beauty salons (where they are in a confined space) do intimate cosmetic procedures on their nethers, parade around women's toilets and take photos (with girls in the background) to 'prove' themselves, hound women out of jobs and positions..... No intimidation humiliation or violence there, no?

Yeah, victims indeed.

LuvSmallDogs · 13/03/2019 14:45

Great, stay away from us then. This is a blatant attempt at manipulation- guilting women into compliance by trying to invoke pity. Like the crazy partner who threatens suicide if you leave, the best response is to ignore it as the passive aggressiveness it is.

HumberElla · 13/03/2019 18:26

Women go about their daily lives, minding their own business, being unobtrusive.

TRA enacts being elaborately and theatrically terrified of same women, while insisting on getting right up close and personal in their spaces.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/03/2019 18:35

Everyone is just an extra in their soap opera life. How tiresome (yawn)

Knicknackpaddyflak · 14/03/2019 17:56

Well having just seen the thread with the quote about women's sport being an affirming space for transwomen, I'm more convinced than ever that to many males in this movement, women are just props.

Which explains why they get so furious when the props won't stay where they're put and keep saying no.
