The fact that they are making a wing in the women's prison is appalling, it should be in the male estate.

Maybe it is not pure validation. Loads of TW in prison are sex offenders. Maybe a sex offender genuinely feels suicidal at the idea of never being able to rape a woman again.

I understand why TW would prefer to be housed in the main section - this special wing must be “othering” and make them feel like “not real women”. I get that perspective. I do.

But that is so clearly outweighed by the needs of the female prison population who have disproportionately suffered abuse, and the fact that half of the trans prison population have been convicted of sex offences.

This seems to be the best compromise for everyone. They are in a women’s prison and safe, but the dignity and needs of the female prisoners is also respected.
