I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

I thought you meant Miranda Hart was in court for crimes against comedy Shock

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:14

Didn't know that Miranda had actually been charged.

Good luck, Miranda.

GerryblewuptheER · 01/03/2019 12:14

A trans person is on trial for transphobic harassment. The complainant is not trans.

"A trans person is on trial for transphobic harassment. The complainant is not trans".

WTAF?

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/03/2019 12:20

Kafka esque.

Sorry Miranda, this absolutely sucks. What a sorry state of affairs. Wine and Flowers

Judge in Miranda Yardley and Helen Islam case has difficulty understanding where there has been harassment.

Helen Islan’s legal team have withdrawn to consult their client on the decision by the judge not to allow reporting restrictions without which she will have difficulty giving evidence.

Judge could not have been more clear that he could not understand where there has been harassment.

Helen Islan needs to take another ten minutes to decide if she gives evidence in trial of Miranda Yardley.

I reckon Helen Ilan might need the ten minutes to delete/lockdown their social media, now that their request for not being named has been denied.

Watching- cannot believe the CPS have pursued this

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:23

Is that Helen mimmymum from Mermaids?

What the fuck are the police and CPS doing giving this the go-ahead?

Needmoresleep · 01/03/2019 12:23

My understanding is that previous threads mentioning the complainant in other, not unreasonable, contexts have been pulled by MN mods. Lets see wait happens to this.

I wonder who is paying for her lawyers? Do we know who they are?

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 12:24

I phrased that clumsily - I was speculating that Helen would be using the ten minutes to delete/lockdown, not that she needed to (which sounds threatening when it wasn't meant to be!)

howmanybiscuits · 01/03/2019 12:24

Helen Islan - AKA mimmymum - for those who don't know, is marketing officer for Mermaids.

Not sure this is really going to do Mermaids' public image much good!

HawkeyeInConfusion · 01/03/2019 12:24

Sorry, my brain is not computing this:

A trans person is on trial for transphobic harassment. The complainant is not trans

The world is truly mad.

Bittermints · 01/03/2019 12:25

The world has gone mad. I should think the judge is using the ten minutes to lie down in a darkened room.

AyeRobot · 01/03/2019 12:26

Flowers for Miranda

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 12:27

This is now public information, where the complainant's right to being anonymous was specifically rejected by a judge.

It's now open to being discussed, surely?

Needmoresleep · 01/03/2019 12:27

Best wishrs to Miranda.

Too many people have been threatened with legal action for voicing reasonable views. The bar for 'transphobia' seems to have been set very low.

BettyDuMonde · 01/03/2019 12:27

A C*S PERSON IS TRYING TO PROSECUTE A TRANSSEXUAL for TRANSPHOBIA?

Fucking hell. We really are in the upside down.

howmanybiscuits · 01/03/2019 12:28

This is Helen on Twitter, her account's still up, for now at least.

ToeToToe · 01/03/2019 12:28

Madness.

Solidarity with Miranda Thanks

DoctoressPlague · 01/03/2019 12:28

I take it Joani Walsh is there?
Good luck, Miranda!

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:30

That Big Lottery grant is looking like a really great idea, isn't it?

Because this will get a lot of media coverage.

Mermaids of course will toss Helen out like a pile of old rubbish and claim that it was a former volunteer gone rogue.

ToeToToe · 01/03/2019 12:30

Oh, and I'm very pleased we can name Helen from Mermaids and that the judge did not uphold the reporting restrictions.

A non-trans person suing a transwoman for transphobic harassment. You couldn't make it up.

Sounds like the judge is equally baffled.

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 12:31

‘Let us save your client the embarrassment of being dragged into the courtroom and give her one last phone call.’ The judge in Miranda Yardley and Helen Islan from Mermaids.
