I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

Debbie Hayton
@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

I know a magistrate, and I'm pretty sure she said they'd had some training from stonewall about gender identity etc. Presumably not on what constitutes a crime (hopefully) but that will be why complainants are having to call defendants by chosen pronouns etc.

ChattyLion · 08/03/2019 04:40

i’m so relieved that this case has been dealt with so unequivocally. Flowers

mirandayardley · 08/03/2019 10:08

Thank you everyone for all the support extended to me on here.

Miranda

Melroses · 08/03/2019 10:09

Flowers Well done you for getting through it. It was quite a trial!

nauticant · 08/03/2019 10:13

Well done for getting a sensible judge Miranda and so a good outcome. What a nightmare it must have been though. I hope it's some consolation that this case will be of help to the cause of freedom of speech for gender critical people.

EcclesThePeacock · 08/03/2019 10:15

The case was mentioned in The Times today, in Melanie Phillips column. She's no fan of feminism, but even less so of 'intersectionality' and identity politics.

miranda I'm sorry you were subjected to 10 months of uncertainty but you're an absolute star for weathering it with such aplomb Flowers

Is there anything we can do in the aftermath to help?

Hiya Miranda, glad to see you on here.

If you are taking this further then don't rule out crowdfunding for legal costs. I think a lot of people on here would contribute.

What you were put through was shameful. State-sponsored harassment.

Its the least any of us can do, if you need to crowd fund or anything else just let someone know. Flowers

LangCleg · 08/03/2019 11:57

Miranda - you know I think we all owe you a great deal. Thank you for prioritising women.

youllhavehadyourtea · 08/03/2019 12:18

Miranda, you are the best.
Thank you.

Uptheapplesandpears · 08/03/2019 12:40

Thanks Miranda. So much appreciated.

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 12:46

hey Miranda - thank you so much and hope you're doing OK after such an awful experience.

DoctoressPlague · 08/03/2019 13:25

About gender identity? Stonewall and others are campaigning for amendment of the Equality Act to replace "gender reassignment" with "gender identity". Is it really appropriate for them to "train" magistrates about something that is currently not defined in law?

Hope you're ok Miranda. I would also contribute to a legal fund, and I hope you take up everyone's offers if this is costing you money. It is not right for you to be out of pocket because of this utter farce of a trial.

I love Miranda.

nettie434 · 17/03/2019 08:53

Thanks for link EweSurname. Makes me admire Miranda even more Flowers. It must have been such an ordeal and really scary to realise how much depended on having a sensible judge when the police and CPS were so willing to get involved.

ComputerSaysMo · 17/03/2019 09:21

I remain amazed that the case got as far as it did with that sort of evidence. The criminal justice system is under enormous pressure to only give court time to cases that are likely to end in a conviction. This pressure affects CPS, the court service, the judiciary, and the police. How the HELL did this get to this stage?

EweSurname · 17/03/2019 09:27

There's a direct link to Miranda's page, which is probably a better way to access the article as the clicks will be registered to that page instead:

So Islan instructed Mischon de Reya (the expensive solicitors) in a personal capacity.

Islan is a single mum working part-time so I'm guessing an anonymous benefactor picked up that tab. Or Mermaids did.

Katvonchangedlightbulb · 17/03/2019 10:33

Shudder

Flowers Miranda

Imagine going through this. I'm disgusted by the bullying TRAs. How the hell did they get the CPS to take this case forward? Batshit. The whole thing.

S1naidSucks · 17/03/2019 17:35

That’s a brilliant piece, Miranda. Your courage shines through. 💐

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 17/03/2019 18:32

Miranda is incredibly courageous Flowers

nauticant · 17/03/2019 18:43

It's worth having Mischon's Pink law initiative in mind Popchyk.
