I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

Debbie Hayton
@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Helen tweeted this a few months ago:

"My son was outed on twitter with his photo and identifiable information shared to 8,000 followers by one of your favourite “gender critical” figureheads!"

WeRiseUp · 01/03/2019 13:24

Shit! I had no idea. Solidarity Miranda !

So shit you are being subjected to this stress.

zanahoria · 01/03/2019 13:24

if you believe people can change gender whats the big deal about changing names?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 01/03/2019 13:25

If it's illegal to tweet a photo of a child then why aren't the authorities going after trans rights advocates for sharing photos of Posie's children

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:26

Joani's latest tweet is a corker! ...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:26

If it's illegal to tweet a photo of a child

A photo that was already in the public domain...

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 13:26

Or Caroline Farrow's.

What is Helen up to now?
This is nuts.
Good luck Miranda. Keeping fingers crossed.

Emma Kennedy, author, is confused how a trans person can be in court for being transphobic.

This is already proving to be another chink of light, though I am sorry that Miranda has to endure the stress.

"I think I remember this - didn't Islan have pictures of her child named as her child on her entirely open website. But went ballistic when the photo appeared on FB or Twitter?"

Basically at one point Helen was very public about everything. She tweeted a photo at a Pride march and she did a photoshoot with her cousin, a photographer, including lots of high-resolution photos with a biography with her child's name and details of how the photoshoot was documenting her child becoming a boy.

She deleted the pride photo from her Twitter subsequently, and then got very upset at the tweet of the (public) link to her trans-son's photoshoot in response to the latest drivel she had posted on her twitter.

I don't know if Miranda tweeted either or both of those, but it wouldn't surprise me,

Yes, whatever happens this isn't going to reflect well on mermaids.

knitandpearl · 01/03/2019 13:30

I don't get the policewoman tweet (Gina Denham)?

hawayman · 01/03/2019 13:31

How old is the child?

@Howmanybiscuits

"If Helen's so concerned about her child's privacy, why did she do a feature for the Telegraph in 2016, including pictures of herself, her husband and three of her child, including an old photo of her child at primary school?"

Are you talking about the freckled child already (erroneously) posted + deleted from this thread? That's a completely different family.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 01/03/2019 13:32

I hope Joani writes an article on this. She gives zero fucks.

Uptheapplesandpears · 01/03/2019 13:33

Much love and solidarity to the remarkable Miranda.

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/03/2019 13:33

What is the legal position here?

If i publicly tweet a photo of my child, then someone else retweets it, surely I can’t sue them?

The media are going to have a field day with this.

SophoclesTheFox · 01/03/2019 13:33

I don’t think there’s a keen trans activist alive who has heard of the Streisand effect.

The vexatious litigation on this topic is now so widespread that surely we now need a new name for someone who is utterly, almost comically oblivious to the existence of the Streisand effect? Every lolsuit peak-TRAs thousands more.

Good luck Miranda. Horribly stressful for you.

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 13:36

"I don't get the policewoman tweet (Gina Denham)?"

Gina Denham has a (eyebrow-raising) thread on Kiwi Farms.

It's been removed from Google in the EU though it will likely appear as the first result outside the EU.

If you go to Kiwi Farms and use the search function there you can still read it.

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 13:38

I don’t think there’s a keen trans activist alive who has heard of the Streisand effect.

But they have! I've seen some of them mock the Streisand Effect as something Mumsnet is constantly referring to. They don't seem to have grasped why though, which tbh is no bad thing Grin

This link may help also www.transgendertrend.com/who-is-making-policy-for-schools/ (re Sgt Gina)

Miranda has the double-peril of living in the same town as Sgt Gina

A polite reminder that this is a public prosecution, tried by jury, so please be careful what you say here. Thanks.
