I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Of course it bad for Miranda as a person to go through this but it Court cases may be the way the madness ends when the law is tested.

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:33

Sounds like the judge is on the ball.

The BIG question is how the hell this ended up in court in the first place. This is taxpayers' money being used.

LangCleg · 01/03/2019 12:33

Helen Islan’s legal team have withdrawn to consult their client on the decision by the judge not to allow reporting restrictions without which she will have difficulty giving evidence.

I am completely gobsmacked.

Hello? Open justice?

The UK court system is not a Star Chamber.

teawamutu · 01/03/2019 12:34

Go Miranda! And thank you Joani Walsh for shining a light here.

howmanybiscuits · 01/03/2019 12:34

Yes, I agree. It's court where this will end. The trans activists have so convinced themselves they're right, with their zeal, but their ideas just don't stand up to scrutiny.

LangCleg · 01/03/2019 12:34

All the Flowers for Miranda.

ChesterGreySideboard · 01/03/2019 12:35

Just read this on Twitter.

Thinking of you Miranda. Stay strong.

ProfessionalBarren · 01/03/2019 12:35

Poor Miranda. What an absolute farce. And god forbid that prosecutions be brought effectively in rape and abuse cases. Nope, this is clearly much more important and just. I’m fucking fuming.

zen1 · 01/03/2019 12:35

Complete joke! Hopefully the judge will find there’s no case to answer.

teawamutu · 01/03/2019 12:35

Am assuming that Helen's reasoning will be that she needs to talk about sensitive cases involving mermaids clients, rather than just avoiding the optics of being a c*s person taking a trans person to court for (transphobic? Am I assuming again?) harassment?

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:35

Joani Walsh
@joaniwalshi

"I’ve been asked to do a piece to camera. Sadly I am still wearing last night’s make up".

There are cameras there, people.

Oh this is gonna be good. Really sorry for Miranda though, this is not on to harass people through the justice system. Sue the fuckers, Miranda.

Orwell had it right.
Flowers for Miranda.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 01/03/2019 12:36

Mermaids again, that's not suprising is it.

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 12:37

How bizarre.

Helen (who claims to be anonymous, yet everyone knows who she is as she had her surname pinned on her Twitter for several years) wants to anonymously give evidence against Miranda Yardley for transphobic harassment, presuambly because Miranda (who is trans) doesn't share Helen's (who isn't trans) perspectives on trans issues.

Helen doesn't want to give evidence because she's somehow under the illusion that she's anonymous despite having 10,000 tweets including a number which give personal details about her child, who identifies as transgender.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 01/03/2019 12:37

Helen has blocked me. Hmm seems a bit rude !

ToeToToe · 01/03/2019 12:37

I hope this gets a lot of publicity.

BettyDuMonde · 01/03/2019 12:38

This is surely the point where everyone can finally see that trans rights activism is doing absolutely fuck all to improve the lives of transpeople?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 12:38

what's the relevance of that link, EweSurname ?

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 12:40

Wait, is this an attempted criminal prosecution?

Or a private one?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 12:40

Is she talking Miranda to court in a personal capacity, or as a representative of Mermaids?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 12:40

Sonia Poulton is also there

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 12:41

To show that Helen was a trans parent advocate.

Is it inappropriate? I can ask for it to be deleted if so

MrsBertBibby · 01/03/2019 12:41

WTF? What was the harassment alleged to be, or is that Top Secret?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 12:41

Helen is testifying.

Much solidarity with Miranda.
