I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Is it just me who finds it sinister that TRAs are repeatedly using injunctions / reporting restrictions like this?

Bradley had an injunction.
The self ID lawyer had an injunction.
Baldemort had an injunction.
Islan tried to have anonymity.

FemalePersonator · 01/03/2019 13:03

"A trans person is on trial for transphobic harassment. The complainant is not trans".

Up is down. War is peace. Black is white.

buzzbobbly · 01/03/2019 13:06

The video link may be due to logistics, but you can bet your life it is being spun that Helen is too scared of TERF attacks to be there in person.

(Let's put to one side that the violence and threats have been exclusive the other way round though.)

Datun · 01/03/2019 13:07

Whatever the reasons for this prosecution, and I believe they're spurious, the negative attention is going to be widespread.

A woman prosecuting a transwoman for transphobia, whilst representing a charity which gets taxpayers money, for supporting people who are trans?

As an editor's wet dream, it's right up there with Freddie Starr Ate my Hamster.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 01/03/2019 13:08

Helen is too scared of TERF attacks to be there in person

But... Miranda Yardley is a tranwoman how can she be a terf?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:10

I look forward to seeing how Penis News reports this Grin

If it is the CPS I think we can expect good media coverage.

Setting aside the case itself, the media hate people gaining anonymity and they dislike people using the courts to silence others. The fact it might be a public body supporting this is, depending on evidence produced, outrageous.

The Mermaids link and the weird non trans claiming transphobia be a trans person, then becomes the icing on the cake.

GerryblewuptheER · 01/03/2019 13:10

But... Miranda Yardley is a tranwoman how can she be a terf?

Because miranda knows they are biologically Male.

SandyDrawsBadly · 01/03/2019 13:11

I’m glad the judge is able to spot the farcical nature of this, even though the police and CPS weren’t.

It’s almost like the police get all of their bullshit training from merm....

Oh.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/03/2019 13:11

More fresh air and sunlight, at last.

Good luck Miranda!
Go Joani!

And go Helen Islan too. Go far, far away.

Here's a link where she goes after @Glinner

Haworthia · 01/03/2019 13:11

This is all happening very close to home. I mean literally. I do hope this gets publicity but suspect that it won’t.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:12

So is Islan the one who is claiming harassment, or Islan's child / another child?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 13:12

The obvious point here is that with, the anonymity bid having failed 'transsexual woman prosecuted by Mermaids' marketing officer' is going in the newspapers. With Helen's full name.

Which means that this will have achieved the exact opposite of any possible raison d'etre for this prosecution (that Helen wants privacy for her child).

HawayMan · 01/03/2019 13:13

What are the specific allegations?

Given that there’s a child involved, I presume Helen is accusing Miranda of harassing her kid?

Needmoresleep · 01/03/2019 13:14

Datum, exactly. All we need now is a great headline. Does Kelvin Mackenzie lurk on MN?

Haworthia · 01/03/2019 13:17

People have confirmed on Twitter that it’s a CPS case, not a private prosecution.

tirisfalpumpkin · 01/03/2019 13:17

If that was the aim, why run an easily identifiable twitter account linked with both your real name and job, full of personal information about said minor?

Helen is... not someone I would want anywhere near a group that provides advice on supporting children and keeping them safe. She has demonstrated her approach to that quite well.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 01/03/2019 13:17

Bloody hellfire!

If this goes the wrong way I'm in for any crowd funder for Miranda.

But if this goes the wrong way....

This is terrifying

DoctoressPlague · 01/03/2019 13:17

This looks like heavy-handed reputation management by a certain charity, going after a transwoman who doesn't approve of said charity's business model. It is going to backfire in a spectacular fashion.

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 13:18

For Christ's sake. Don't they know we are all here waiting for news?

To protect child’s id

Which is a very good reason, or would be if it wasn't this woman who'd originally in essence outed her own child. Confused
However, there may well be details which mean that the video link is appropriate.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:21

Oh dear...

"Helen Islan so distressed by a picture of her child being tweeted she has considered changing names."

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 13:23

I think I remember this - didn't Islan have pictures of her child named as her child on her entirely open website. But went ballistic when the photo appeared on FB or Twitter?
