At first I was delighted to see thisat last a big name in women's sport is speaking up! but then I got angry all over again that this utterly obvious point has to be explained to an adult, in this case, a Guardian journalist. It boggles the mind.

RM still has some support

Martina Navratilova states the obvious
AnyFucker · 22/12/2018 12:00

No surprise there

Men beating women in a clear test of speed and strength. Playing field so wonky every body's brain slid off the edge.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 22/12/2018 12:11

Am proper lol @ Penis News saying "An incredible achievement!"

Brilliant.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2018 12:17

Are Pink News real? Or are they in deep cover, existing to peak trans people at critical moments?

VickyEadie · 22/12/2018 12:17

"An incredible achievement!"

More misuse of language by the TRAs. It's perfectly "credible" for a man to beat women.

Bienchen · 22/12/2018 12:19

Is Martina's Twitter down?

Wordthe · 22/12/2018 12:19

The 'incredible achievement' is the scam that they are pulling off

Hahaha I owned you all, what an incredible achievement

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2018 12:20

I can see it

silentcrow · 22/12/2018 12:20

Don't expect anything from Baddiel any time soon Hmm he's not going to open up a third front on Twitter beyond ambiguous snark. He's already had grief over the antisemitism in Labour row and got absolutely slapped a couple of weeks ago by the children's lit community for whining that his and Walliams' books - some of the most heavily promoted rubbish I've ever seen - didn't feature in a newspaper's top recommendations. All mouth and no trousers on this one, I reckon.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2018 12:35

Incredible that a male was allowed to compete in a women's sporting event? Absolutely, beggars belief.

Oh noes. For having tweeted in support of Martina to all of my 33 (lol) followers, it seems I am now so dangerous that I too must be blocked by McKinnon immediately! Grin

Funny that. I don't tweet much at all, and it's mostly music-related when I do, but one head-above-the-parapet GC remark and I have had 3x as many likes as I have followers and nearly as many retweets. Seems many people seem to share my opinion.

I do think this insta-block thing that the TRAs do is a shame though. I'm happy to back up any of my views with facts, or if they are solely my opinion to listen if others feel they can disprove them. Come at me (respectfully) folks, change my mind! I don't think a "lalala I'm not listening" fingers-in-ears approach is really going to help anyone.

R0wantrees · 22/12/2018 13:08

Its a method of extreme control. As well as silencing those who question the TRA ideology, it also controls those within transgender communities who have signed up to the block lists in good faith from being aware of what is actually said.

The myths of 'thousand of abusive tweets' can be maintained.

The use & consequences of mass 'terf' blocks needs understanding and exposing.

I wish there was a "like" button on here sometimes R0wantrees.

RM is a fanatic, a narcissist, a cheat, a bully and all round fudd.

I don't imagine RM does self reflection. ..

Glinner · 22/12/2018 13:27

That Pink News tweet is hilarious. So desperate.

One of the students taking her course on sport and gender finished the exam in 25 minutes. I'd love to think it's someone who has been peaktransed by Rachel's course and came up with some pretty succinct answers.
We should have a Mumsnet mini exam competition.

And of course being an accomplished writer is just one of Rachel's many talents. Shame no one want to buy that £60 book. Grin

Alas I don't think we'll hear Rachel debating on radio 4 again any time soon, once bitten twice shy. Best stick to key board bullying and blocking anyone who disagrees, so much more soothing, no wonder the radio 4 interview is a source of regret. Wish I had a recording of that. I do recall it didn't go well.

"I don't recall who was the morning host I had to deal with in October, but she was super hostile to trans people...it's the only interview out of DOZENS I've done these past six weeks I've regretted"

Thank you BBC radio 4.

AnyFucker · 22/12/2018 13:48

Easy peasy

Q) should men be competing directly against women in sport

A) no

There....I did it in 0.25 seconds

Sexnotgender · 22/12/2018 13:52

The reviews on their book are fairly uncomplimentary!

SophoclesTheFox · 22/12/2018 13:52

I will be so disappointed if I don't get that book in my stocking on Tuesday. With its stunning one star review.

I live in hope. Baddiel and Giles Coren seem to get it, up to a point, but don't seem to fully understand the extent of the horror.

And it's really interesting that those men who boast about how super-rational and pro-science they are - the Ben Goldacres and Richard Dawkinses of this world, plus their multiple followers - have remained as quiet as mice on this issue.

It does make Glinner's courage in speaking out even more remarkable.

Annandale · 22/12/2018 14:45

I'll give Dr R a complete pass on 'Dr RMcK, PhD' - in the US it's normal to differentiate yourself from Dr X, MD (i.e. a medical doctor) and correct to do so IMO.

I'm slightly more surprised to find that Dr R invigilates their own exams, but perhaps that's normal, I'm not an academic.

AspieAndProud · 22/12/2018 15:02

Dawkins is 77 and in pretty poor health. He had a stroke a year or so ago. This isn’t his battle.

On the other hand it is Goldacres.

And has Simon Singh commented? His battle against homeopathy surely set a precedent in his battle against woo.
