At first I was delighted to see thisat last a big name in women's sport is speaking up! but then I got angry all over again that this utterly obvious point has to be explained to an adult, in this case, a Guardian journalist. It boggles the mind.

any people still think it's Ok if the transwoman just drops their testosterone to a level that's still higher than the women's, however.

Good to see people pointing out that it's not just about T levels in any case.

On the other hand, Mackinnon and others are now claiming that men in general do not have an innate advantage over women, so in the Looking Glass world in which we're condemned to live on these issues the truth becomes even more distorted. Turns into absolute and utter lies, in fact, despite data evidence to the complete contrary.

Glinner · 19/12/2018 12:22

Screengrab in case they shame her into taking it down. (But I suspect Martina is made of sterner stuff).

Good to hear from her. But as she's an out lesbian all the trans homophobes will be gearing up to silence her.

2rebecca · 19/12/2018 12:31

Excellent

BubonicBudgie · 19/12/2018 12:31

Good for her. I wish more sports women felt able to speak up.

Iused2BanOptimist · 19/12/2018 12:32

And this.

It sounds like someone is in the process of peak transing.

Danaquestionseverything · 19/12/2018 12:34

That's huge. Stay strong Martina. C'mon where's the rest of the champion sportswomen?

Gentlygently · 19/12/2018 12:40

Excellent. Martina has been my heroine for more years than I can remember. So pleased about this!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 19/12/2018 12:44

Adult?

WilburforceRaven · 19/12/2018 12:45

Stay strong, Martina!

CryptoFascist · 19/12/2018 12:47

Thank you Martina. I hope she isn't forced to backtrack like so many sportswomen.

gendercritter · 19/12/2018 12:47

Ah brilliant. Good for her speaking out

VickyEadie · 19/12/2018 12:48

I recall during the last Olympics watching Paula Radcliffe going through all sorts of verbal gymnastics to avoid saying what she wanted to say (I thought, anyway) about Semenya.

Mibd, she was working for the BBC so...

AspieAndProud · 19/12/2018 12:54

Testosterone levels were only ever meant to be a proxy for sex. Testosterone measurements were considered less demeaning than looking down someone’s pants. (Plus, you could spot doping while you were at it.)

Testosterone levels are not, in themselves, what defines the sexes; reducing testosterone doesn’t make someone a woman, nor does it undo years of unequal developmental.

LangCleg · 19/12/2018 12:54

A few scales seem to be falling from her eyes, looking at her feed. Let's hope she continues to look into what's going on.

good

littlbrowndog · 19/12/2018 13:00

Great job martina.
Women are not just hormones 💪💪

misscockerspaniel · 19/12/2018 13:04

Martina needs to have a word in Billie Jean King's ear.

It is wonderful to see such a well-respected sports star speaking out. I hope she inspires others to put their head above the parapet.

Sexnotgender · 19/12/2018 13:07

Lots of supportive messages for her. We need more big names to speak out!

MagicMix · 19/12/2018 13:13

Yep, you can see the cogs turning. Good on her.

I think a huge amount of people don't really comprehend the extent of the madness and then if they are confronted with it their reaction is 'Surely not, surely nobody is seriously arguing that?'

Oh but they are.

HamiltonCork · 19/12/2018 13:17

Well done Martina.

hackmum · 19/12/2018 13:18

Thank god for some sense from Martina.

Who's the Guardian journalist? I saw the BBC guy but not anyone from the Guardian unless I'm missing something.

VickyEadie · 19/12/2018 13:18

I think a huge amount of people don't really comprehend the extent of the madness and then if they are confronted with it their reaction is 'Surely not, surely nobody is seriously arguing that?'

Oh but they are.

And it's moved on extremely quickly from 'If they drop their T level to a level still higher than the women's it's fair' to 'They shouldn't have to drop their T levels, because men don't have an innate advantage over women'.
