FiLiA conference 2019 anyone going?

Has anyone been before? I'd not heard of FiLiA before but what I'm reading looks pretty promising!

I took a wonky photo. The one on the left (mine) is obviously 'radicalised by MN', the one on the right is my DD's and says 'radicalised by mum'. Bought from an online company called spreadshirt. Ordered last sunday night and arrived yesterday (thursday). Highly recommended.

The T-shirts look great & yes, I was radicalised by Mumsnet. Back in 2014ish when the Women’s Equality Party told us they thought violent men should be in women’s prisons.

I’m going to resist though because I realised recently that I had a Standing for Women top for almost every day of the week (plus the FPFW ones, plus the Filia one, then there’s the bags..)

Do we get actual tickets?
I paid weeks ago and have booked my sessions etc, but I've never been before so I'm not sure what happens with tickets.

Your email order confirmation is your ticket, but they don’t ask you to take it with you.

What Empress said! We don’t get tickets, as far as I know.

KURDISH WOMEN'S EXPERIENCES AND POLITICAL ALTERNATIVES

Due to the century-long oppression of Kurds within the confines of four nation states dominated by Arabs, Turks and Persians, Kurds were subjected to genocide, chemical bombardments, imprisonment and forced disappearances. Kurdish women had to carry the double burden of Kurdishness and womanhood. In recent years the Kurdish women’s struggles were brought to light due to their bravery and revolutionary struggle against Islamism and ISIS. This seminar we will shed light on the long and complex history of armed struggle in Kurdistan, shared experiences of imprisonment, political activism and exile in the four parts of divided Kurdistan. This panel presents speakers from different parts of Kurdistan in diaspora to share their own personal stories of resistance and their visions for women’s rights and Kurdish politics in general.

Wow, that line up is like a Who's Who of GC feminists, I'm going to have to deal with some serious girl fan crush behaviours!

Confirmed today that the creche provider is going to offer childcare in the evening so mums can go to the party too.

Yay! Mums get to party!!!

Awww due a bereavement I probably cannot go.

I have ticket and a non-refundable hotel booking for two nights in a nearby chain hotel. (I am assuming both will allow me to pass bookings on.)

Happy to give both away to a regular, but impecunious, regular poster. Or to someone willing to donate to a crowdfunder. Just PM me. (I will check posting history - so sorry Lily, Adrian, Steph and Aimee.)

If it helps with coordinating, I think FiLiA operates a solidarity ticket gifting scheme for women who may otherwise may not be able to attend, so it might be worth emailing them directly on [email protected]
