(Apologies if the link isn't clicky, not done this before!)

Has anyone been before? I'd not heard of FiLiA before but what I'm reading looks pretty promising!

I'd love to go but I'd be going alone, with the possibility of meeting up with some women from a facebook group I'm part of. I just need to work up the confidence to do it.

witchesaremysisters · 10/08/2019 10:34

I went by myself last year - was REALLY nervous!
But as soon as I got there the atmosphere was welcoming and women were so lovely.

Plus I got to meet some MNers! Grin

Rumplestaleskin · 10/08/2019 13:32

I bit the bullet and bought a ticket. Like others, I’m debating whether to bring my six year old daughter. I’m somewhat bricking it as I won’t know anyone.

TinselAngel · 10/08/2019 13:41

be good to meet you, and everyone else. How can we do this?

We can all arrange something by DM nearer the time.

hungryhippie · 10/08/2019 13:57

Just booked a weekend ticket!
I live about an hour away and there is a train that stops at Bradford Interchange which I'm really pleased about!
I've never been before and am a bit nervous of going on my own but I'm sure it will be fine.

Dependent on my new job status, I also hope to be there, and the weather will not hold me back this time.

placemats · 10/08/2019 18:19

I'm on my own as well. I do these things to push me out of my comfort zone. You will be fine.

morningtoncrescent62 · 10/08/2019 20:45

People who went last time, what was the spread of ages like? Just wondering whether I'd be the only oldie there if I went - their description of themselves as 'daughters' has me thinking it might be a younger women's/people's thing.

Really happy to be part of a Mumsnet meet up.

chilling19 · 11/08/2019 19:32

Yes, we will find a way of meeting up. I have been to other events like this, and everyone is friendly, so don't worry about going on your own. It will be brilliant. 👍

PegasusRex · 12/08/2019 21:35

I'm going again this year. I went on my own last year and really enjoyed it, found people to chat to including some MNers.

PencilsInSpace · 12/08/2019 21:59

I'm going Smile

hungryhippie · 13/08/2019 08:01

Have they announced any of the speakers yet?

BeUpStanding · 13/08/2019 08:07

I'll be there Smile

EmpressLesbianInChair · 13/08/2019 08:08

Me too Smile

EmpressLesbianInChair · 13/08/2019 08:13

I made friends at my first FiLiA who I still meet up with. And last year, there were AHF & FPFW T-shirts everywhere Grin.

TirisfalPumpkin · 13/08/2019 08:42

Going Grin

Can’t wait. It’d be great to meet some of you too. Might wear one of my ‘radicalised by Mumsnet’ badges.

spinninghag · 15/08/2019 22:50

Might wear one of my ‘radicalised by Mumsnet’ badges.

Where can I get one of those!?

witchesaremysisters · 21/08/2019 11:24

If nobody minds, I might try and update this thread with speaker announcements from the FiLiA newsletter.

  • KONGOSI ONIA MUSSANZI

I think that's a great idea, witches.

Destinysdaughter · 21/08/2019 17:30

Im going with my real life feminist group, created via Mumsnet! Would love to meet other women going, I know how scary it can be going to these events by yourself. Please DM me if you're going on your own and you'd like to meet up with other women. I went to one of the FPFW talks in London by myself, got in touch with women on MN and we had a great time!

witchesaremysisters · 22/08/2019 10:51

Thank you Empress ! (Love your username!) I might keep posting about speakers on this thread then, from time to time.

Surrogacy: A Human Rights Violation
"The speakers on this panel challenge the Commissions’ proposition that surrogacy is progressive. They demonstrate that when the focus shifts onto a feminist examination of women, women’s bodies and women’s human rights a different conclusion about the politics of surrogacy will be reached.'"
-Julie Bindel
-Sheela Saravanan
-Renate Klein

Panel:

FAILING FAMILIES - WHEN COURTS ABUSE

"This panel will discuss the various ways in which the family court system is not fit for purpose. As part of the response to the Domestic Abuse Bill consultation the government is now reviewing the safety and effectiveness of the family court system. This panel will look at the law, the research and the secrecy around the family court system and hear from two women with direct experience of the dangers of a broken system to both children and their mothers."
