Just opened my inbox to this little gem from the lib dems. I'm going to resign my membership I think.

"Defend their right to exist" ffs. What does that even mean? People exist regardless of whether or not I believe in them. Otherwise we could get rid of Trump/Farage etc just by refusing to acknowledge them. It's so ridiculous

Send her an honest and open reply first. I’m going to.

paffuto · 12/11/2018 18:43

Which rights don't they have then? Have I missed something?

Gronky · 12/11/2018 18:45

It's quite telling where they and Labour stand when it comes to women: neither has produced a female leader in their entire history.

Talkstotrees · 12/11/2018 18:48

Write to her. Engage.

Don’t write the whole party off over one email.

TrashyTerf · 12/11/2018 18:49

Please ask her to reference her statistics with a peer-reviewed study.

Doobigetta · 12/11/2018 19:06

It isn’t one email though, is it. We’ve been getting this message from them consistently ever since this issue came up. They’re more than happy to sacrifice 35m or more women for the sake of a few thousand trans people.

Budgieinaberet · 12/11/2018 19:10

It's more than just one email. Isn't Aimee part of their team now ?

Doobigetta · 12/11/2018 19:13

Yes, I’ve seen semi-official confirmation that Aimee Challenor is now a member. I mentioned it as one of the things I’m not happy about in the mail I sent them earlier.

I will reply when I rescind my membership. Tbh I am unhappy with them about a whole raft of things, this is the final straw

Can her ladyship provide the source of those statistics?

Does she have accurate figures on the number of people who identify as trans?

You can't say "a third" have experienced hate crime, without knowing the total number of trans people. You can, however, say "a third" of the respondents to a survey - and provide the source.

We have seen too many Stonewall/LBGT surveys that have been misleading and false. They aren't worth the paper they are written on, but are oft-quoted as though they are authoratitive.

I would definitely ask the Baroness to back up her claims.

ecosomething · 12/11/2018 20:18

By putting "Gender-critical LibDem" on my Twitter profile I've recently linked up with a LibDem councillor and through him am now part of a newly-formed (at present secret) group of gender-critical LibDems on FB. We're intending to start a closed group for debate on this, but it's all very recent and still in the planning stage. I think there are quite a lot of party members not happy at the leadership's approach, but feeling isolated at present

From those of us doing similar work in the Greens can we genuinely wish you all the best welshbookworm!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 12/11/2018 20:18

I got it too. Dealing very in despair with the party right now, but I don't know where else to go politically.

BlardyBlar · 12/11/2018 20:26

“It is 2018 and we should be better than this.”

Speak for yourself Sal. My conscience is clear.

weekfour · 12/11/2018 20:28

They've lost me over it. I told them my reasons and they didn't even respond to me. I did however, manage to be blocked by the LGBT Libdem Twitter feed.... For asking a bloody question.

I was so frustrated I cried. I was such a vocal supporter amongst my friends/colleagues. I just feel silly!

They're more than happy to throw every woman under the bus to keep a few vocal trans people happy. I'm now politically homeless.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2018 21:18

Have they really sent that email to all members?

birdsdestiny · 12/11/2018 21:23

Yes.

NoseringGirl · 12/11/2018 21:23

I always really looked up to Sal. She's an intelligent and sensible woman. I was disappointed by the tone of this and stats being thrown about.
Will be interested to see what replies people get. I was very much brushed off when I raised concerns about that awful Twitter account.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2018 21:38

Really only I hear a few members seem to have lost theirs in the interspace.

Most odd.

birdsdestiny · 12/11/2018 21:42

Well I suppose I am making an assumption, it's gone to the lib dem members I know. Can't imagine why they would tailor it to particular members.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2018 21:47

That's what I'm very curious about too...

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 12/11/2018 22:03

I got it to. I clicked the ‘no’ button for ‘did I find it useful’ and told them that their statistics were flawed and manipulated, that trans people already have equal rights, and that I do not agree with the vocal trans advocates who are pushing for trans women in women’s roles and spaces. I could probably have worded it better, but it was done in a WTF moment while i was on a call for work.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 12/11/2018 22:07

I got it too.

Justhadathought · 12/11/2018 22:15

Because the foundation of trans existence is purely ephemeral - that is why it is so shaky - and can fracture in an instant. Hence all of the talk of the 'right to exist'. It's a mental construct only.
