As it's Trans Awareness Week I wanted to give a shout out to all the old school Trans folk who are busy getting on with their lives and are not so vocal online.

Peace and acceptance to you all
xx

Can we have women/girls awareness day?
It’s trans day every bloody day

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 16:42

There is a day I think?

Where men all over the world take the opportunity to say "what about the men?when is men's day waaaah snoffair" and richard herring takes the day out to tell them all that yes they have one and what the date is

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 16:43

Loads of men don't really like women / girls getting attention or things whatever things they are really is the bottom line

This manifests in a variety of ways

Serfisafleur · 12/11/2018 16:44

Wasn't last month trans awareness week?

Mishappening · 12/11/2018 16:45

No - I think it was the whole of the last couple of years.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 16:45

At my work the LGBT+ is all about the T and only the T

While the recently formed womens group got changed to a gender equality groups for the empowerfulisation of all genders and the next event is focussed on men. Not black men or trans identifying men or poor men or disabled men just... Men.

Interesting isn't it.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 16:46

This will go well...

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 16:46

I also thought it was last month

Maybe there is one week each month?

Thingybob · 12/11/2018 16:51

Oh for goodness sake

Do you mean the male folk who are entering women's spaces, but don't brag about it on twitter? Yeah, big shout out to them.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 12/11/2018 17:02

As a Liberal Democrat there are few things about which I feel more strongly.

In the last year:

More than a third of trans people in the UK were victims of a hate crime
Two thirds have experienced depression
More than a third have self-harmed
Almost half have thought about taking their own life
More than one in ten have attempted to
The experiences of many Trans people is hard to hear.

And it makes me so angry, because it is 2018 and we should be better than this.

This week it is Transgender Awareness Week.

This week, Liberal Democrats will speak with one voice: Trans rights are human rights.

Will you help us?

Here are three things you can do right now:

Join our campaign: Trans Rights are Human Rights: libdems.org.uk/trans
Add a frame to your Facebook profile, saying that you support trans rights: facebook.com/profilepicframes/
Share my blog post on trans rights: libdems.org.uk/trans-rights-are-human-rights
This summer in particular, our trans friends have had to defend their right to exist. This week, we can do some of the heavy-lifting for them.

Very best wishes to you on Transgender Awareness Week.

Sal

Baroness Sal Brinton
President of the Liberal Democrats.

Howyoualldoworkme · 12/11/2018 17:07

You're having a laugh aren't you PainInTheEar?
The abuse that women get from the Lib Dems and now you want us to be all lovely and supportive and help you?

Heavy lifting? Not with my knees sweetheart.

BeyondVicious · 12/11/2018 17:09

This year (hell, most in the last few months!)
I was a victim of a hate crime
I have experienced depression
I have self-harmed
I have thought about taking their own life

I haven't quite attempted it. This year.

When is Beyind awareness day?

Thingybob · 12/11/2018 17:12

No I mean the majority of trans people who are not out to harm women and who have been the ones that have suffered most from the actions of a few. The people that really are brave and stunning like Miranda Yardley and Debbie Hayton.

Public Service Announcement reminder.
Just that.

ShotsFired · 12/11/2018 17:21

Care to list the actual, factual sources for those wild claims, Pain? Given how there are few things you support more, I'm sure you have them to hand.

I'm sure you also have equivalent stats for women too, naturally.

papayasareyum · 12/11/2018 17:25

Pain, if there really are “few things about which you feel more strongly” then you’re in the wrong job. You really are.

Mrskeats · 12/11/2018 17:26

Oh the Liberal Democrat view. The party that holds its meetings in a phone box.

VickyEadie · 12/11/2018 17:28

Germaine Bunbury recently Tweeted "Beware threads aimed at garnering screenshots".

Helmetbymidnight · 12/11/2018 17:30

I can’t believe I supported Lib Dem’s. Publicly!

They should march me around the town naked, ringing a bell: ‘shame, shame, shame’.

Over50andfab · 12/11/2018 17:31

Hear hear Thingybob.

Thingybob · 12/11/2018 17:35

Over50andfab

Thanks I'm glad someone agrees with me. I have asked for this thread to be deleted as it is not showing Mumsnetters in a good light.

OP posts:
Over50andfab · 12/11/2018 17:37

Sal Brinton....Sbrin? Believe we went to the same school...different years though!

Sorry, not a Lib Dem, but I agree with the post...it’s 2018, we SHOULD be better than this!

Over50andfab · 12/11/2018 17:39

Thingybob...this thread should stand as it shows we are not all in agreement, and I for one am fed up with the crap reputation MN is getting.

Earlywalker · 12/11/2018 17:41

This place is getting more and more narcissistic by the day. Trans awareness week does not affect woman in anyway, you’re just being hateful.
Can you imagine this sort of nastiness on A thread for awareness of any other minority group. Hmm
