As it's Trans Awareness Week I wanted to give a shout out to all the old school Trans folk who are busy getting on with their lives and are not so vocal online.

Peace and acceptance to you all
xx

Sorry, those weren’t my words! It was an email I received from the Lib Dems, who I will be leaving after the next meeting where I can raise my concerns about their refusal to listen to women’s concerns.

Sorry, should have made it clearer Blush

Mrskeats · 12/11/2018 17:44

It doesn't affect women yeah right.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 17:46

Trans awareness week does not affect woman in anyway

For once, I actually agree with you, EarlyWalker. And your quoted sentence above does lead me to ask why it would really be necessary to post about it feminist chat, except to create a space for irritation and lecturing of the nasty women?

KatVonGulag · 12/11/2018 17:46

Agreed. There are many decent trans people. I've known several, and I see the words of many more.

We get dragged down by the TRAs, we shouldn't forget the decent people.

KatVonGulag · 12/11/2018 17:48

Remember miranda, dawn, debbie.

They deserve respect.

I guess we are just a bit raw

It wasn't my intention to cause irritation but it seemed an apt place to post as we have so many threads about trans people. Therefore I thought it was relevant highlighting the flip side that many trans people are no threat and they have suffered badly due to trans-activism.

I am quite happy to respect them. I'm just weary of this sort of thread being posted which puts people's backs up because this is FWR, not the Trans section, and the only reason we end up discussing the trans issue is because of it's intersection and challenge to women's rights. And then when people express that irritation, they get all the self righteous dimwits suddenly finding time to post pointy fingered 'haters!' posts.

It's a hiding to nothing.

Howyoualldoworkme · 12/11/2018 18:00

Then my apologies PainInTheEar Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 12/11/2018 18:20

I can’t believe I supported Lib Dem’s. Publicly!

Me too. I’m 52 and have voted Lib Dem/Liberal in every single election. I also converted my Dh.

They’ll never, ever get my vote again.

Tellin · 12/11/2018 18:22

It wasn't my intention to cause irritation but it seemed an apt place to post as we have so many threads about trans people.

Except the transpeople you're referring to like Miranda Yardle, Fionne Orlander, Debbie Hayton know they are not women and don't consider themselves as such. So again, if you're doing this in support of people like them, the feminist chat boards is quite obviously the wrong place and I can't help but see it as intentionally goofy

Tellin · 12/11/2018 18:23

Sigh. The last word was meant to be goady, not goofy. Although, I suppose, that would work too.

MadamBatty · 12/11/2018 18:26

Goofy works.

Fairenuff · 12/11/2018 18:36

Trans Rights are Human Rights

Doesn't this statement sort of imply that trans people are not human? Where are they getting the idea that being a transperson is different to being human? Confused

happydappy2 · 12/11/2018 18:37

But what human rights don't trans people have?
Why can't transwomen respect womens rights to sex segregated spaces?
Transpeople don't exist in a world purely for them-they need to share it with other people who also have rights.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 18:42

If you look at the stonewall umbrella which includes gender nonconformity, plus of course definitions like agender and non binary, it turns out most people are trans (whether they identify as trans or not).

So where does that leave us?

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 18:47

Whilst understanding the general resistance to self ID, I do agree with a previous poster who pointed out that the phrase 'peak Muslim' might not be considered so acceptable despite being equally justifiable when one considers the many misogynistic aspects of Islam...

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 18:49

Islam Judism Christianty + more I'm sure, mainstream global religions are patriarchal misogynistic shocker.

Happy to discuss on another thread if you want to start one.

Fairenuff · 12/11/2018 18:54

But that's the whole point. People can have their beliefs without trying to force everyone to have the same belief.

Unlike TRAs who are trying to force everyone to accept their ideology.

Well said Fairenuff !!

Gronky · 12/11/2018 19:02

I fully support transmen.

Isn't that somewhat akin to men supporting transwomen?

FuriousOfSurrey · 12/11/2018 19:10

I can't help but be aware of trans women. My work place is very "woke" and has several arms within the same organisation. One of which has thousands of young women doing what many consider to be a pretty menial role. The only one I have seen celebrated in the last year for doing their job on the company web site in that role is - have a guess - trans. Yep I'm only too aware of trans. The only girls worth making a song and dance about where I work are the ones with a penis.

Deliriumoftheendless · 12/11/2018 19:20

I agree FWR isn’t the place for this to be celebrated as it isnt about women but there’s nothing wrong with celebrating and being supportive of transwomen who are understanding of the issues around self id. I would be supportive of anyone to express themselves peacefully as they wish and of facilitaties that aid trans people as long as that doesn’t encroachnon women and girl’s safety.

I would like some people to be more aware how the huge umbrella is sheltering some who absolutely should not be considered trans and that those would have an awareness of the damage they are doing to women, children and transsexuals.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 19:26

I feel no need whatsoever to underline that I'm a nice, kind sort who doesn't think every trans person is an evil loon. I get wearied with women having to persistently back up their "It goes with saying, NATALT" creds.

Yes, Miranda is a good egg, and so are some others who post here. But why should they get extra pats for just doing a decent thing and saying 'Yes, women are allowed rights and boundaries'. That's ground level stuff.

LangCleg · 12/11/2018 19:29

I'm aware, thanks.

Not a feminist topic.
