As it's Trans Awareness Week I wanted to give a shout out to all the old school Trans folk who are busy getting on with their lives and are not so vocal online.

Peace and acceptance to you all
xx

Men have every other political movement putting them first. Conservative, liberal - you name it. Can we have feminism just about us, please?
Also men's activism is extremely problematic. Liberal feminism is hijacked by men. "Transwomen are women", alongside with "porn is liberating", and "prostitution is empowering". And then they have audacity to say we're doing feminism wrong.

Ereshkigal · 13/11/2018 11:12

I can't get over these perspectives on 'Feminism is for everyone' that sound exactly like all those thoughtless people who respond to Black Lives Matter conversations with #AllLivesMatter.

YY. It's really ok to have a movement which centres the needs of women only.

BettyDuMonde · 13/11/2018 11:13

I’m ready to jettison ‘Feminism’ to the ‘equality for all’ lot (even though they already have ‘Egalitarianism’ to describe their tosh) and resurrect ‘Women’s Lib’.

Fuck the ‘thirdwave’ It’s high time for a secondwave of secondwave!

Fairenuff · 13/11/2018 11:20

Men love to tell women what feminism means.

ProfessoressWoland · 13/11/2018 11:47

Floral - I can't get over these perspectives on 'Feminism is for everyone' that sound exactly like all those thoughtless people who respond to Black Lives Matter conversations with #AllLivesMatter.

Exactly - if, say, crossdressers' rights are headed under the banner of feminism, the term becomes meaningless.
"Peak trans" is about the realisation of the absurdity of the transgender umbrella, self ID and its repercussions on women's rights and freedom of speech. It's not comparable to "peak muslim" or whatever. If we must use banal religion-related analogies, a comparable situation would be the government toying with the idea of adopting wholesale sharia law in the UK and people who voice their concerns being labelled islamophobic. The realisation of what is going on could be described as "peak sharia". In the current situation, comparisons to racism or religious intolerance are naive and show that some people still haven't grasped what we are talking about.

We would not allow this post anyway as it breaks our Talk Guidelines but we are also taking this down because we don't allow usernames like this.

ShotsFired · 13/11/2018 13:03

but I think it's important to not tar all trans people with the same brush.

Phew thank god for this virtue signalling or otherwise our silly ladybrains would never have thought of it.

What about a week focusing on women who are murdered? Such as the 35 year old mother of 5, 8 months pregnant, who was killed yesterday with a cross-bow. (RIP).

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 13/11/2018 14:06

Oh dear, I think I'll always be a homeless middle ground person.

Anyone who wraps themselves up in virtue-signalling will always have a home with Labour, the Greens and the LibDems.

KayM2 · 13/11/2018 14:16

It's often good fun to read the REALLY daft posts; this is addressed to SimmotheGypo; just a couple of things; The medically qualified people who work with transsexual people would disagree with you about it being a mental illness. It may be a brain condition, acquired in ways that are not clearly understood, but is certainly permanent. mental illness isn't, in many cases. Secondly, your siting of the ending of the Greek and Roman Empires is based on 19C misconceptions. The Greek were finally overcome by larger forces from the east. The Western Roman Empire was overcome by the development of ever stronger, more numerous Germanic societies north of the Rhine, and by influxes from Eastern Europe. ( In the east, they had always found the Persians too hot to handle). The Roman Empire did not finally end till the 15C, of course, when Constantinople fell. Being effete and androgynous has nothing to do with it. They weren't. And lastly, the 40% attempted suicide rate is " fake news"; you do know that, I would guess. But otherwise, your posts are bracing and good fun to read. We need entertaining, we TS men and women. :-)

Electron1 · 13/11/2018 14:45

misscockerspaniel

That's horrendous.

Electron1 · 13/11/2018 14:47

A brain condition?

Don't know about the OP, but I agree with her - I try to see things from both sides....and I'm not Labour, the Greens or LibDem Confused

This was/is supposed to be about recognising the vast majority of trans people who are no risk to women and just want to get on with their lives.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 13/11/2018 15:04

What, Electron? You are questioning the narrative provided by Our Resident Expert?

I do have to admit that It may be a brain condition, acquired in ways that are not clearly understood, but is certainly permanent. mental illness isn't, in many cases. did make me laugh.

papayasareyum · 13/11/2018 15:10

Permanent? No, often not. How do you explain the people who detransition and say they should never have transitioned in the first place? Surgery might be irreversible, but people often reverse their thinking on whether they’re trans or not.

ToSimmon thegypo;
Actually I was referring to the assessment team at CX Hospital Gender Clinic. They include consultant psychiatrists, natch. And yes, I AM better, thanks to them. Two decades ago I had the necessary treatment to live the rest of my life very much more happily than before I transitioned. And my TS friends are happy too. And still alive, oddly. I don't want to be unkind to you, you just don't know enough about all this to make sensible comment. No harm done. No offence taken, none intended; best wishes.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 19:10

misscockerspaniel I just read about that on the news.

What a terrible story - in front of her children - it's just mind boggling that someone could do that.

The reason there isn't a week focussing on this is becasue it's not interesting or exciting. Women have been murdered by men who know them - their friends, family, loved ones. Acquaintances, workmates. Forever. It is somehow a simple fact of life, a risk that women take simply by existing.

The news every day reports awful tales of men attacking, raping, killing women and girls and I'm heartily sick of it.

RIP Sana Muhammad and I hope the utter bastard who killed her rots in prison.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 19:15

And I don't want a fucking week to think about it, I want societies to value women, to care about violence against us, not to see an attack where there is a relationship as less bad than the same attack on a stranger, for the press not to print reams about what a great man Bob X was after he murders his family, list his hobbies and job and how much he loved his family while they get few humanising details.

I am heartily fucking sick of it.

People still seem to have major mental blocks seeing rape of women and girls over pubery as a crime half the time unless they are also beaten senseless or preferably killed as well and then oh yes that's a crime. But other than that? Not so much. No harm done. And what was she doing there anyway.

I know this is off topic but I am sick to the fucking back teeth of male violence why can't they just fucking leave us alone.

Thingybob · 13/11/2018 20:13

You could be speaking for me Over50andFab and I'm well over that age too. Yes I wasn't trying to virtue signal but trying to be fair. I also don't vote for any of the above although I did try them all at least once when I was younger.

Anyway I accept I got it wrong mentioning Trans Awareness here so was rightly told where to go. Lol I also got ridiculed on Twitter by the 'other side'

But thanks, it's nice to have one ally and I'll be in contact when I set up own political movement x

That's honestly a shame thing

VerbeenaBeeks · 13/11/2018 21:20

I'm musing on the fact that 'peak trans' is deemed acceptable but 'peak Muslim' is probably not, supporting my point with examples - a point which wasn't originally mine I might add

That's a good point, @ScottCheggJnr. Shame more people can't see what you're actually saying.
