You should be able to listen again here. 9am. There's a discussion going on now.

Talking about the penis stickers, and single sex spaces.

The trans-activist they on says that we should make space for all kinds of women: including "angry" women.

Yes, now there are women, angry women and trans women.

That's exactly what I thought Sarahconnor1. Vicky goes out of their way to insist they aren't either male or female. But somehow believes that female changing rooms etc are where they belong - odd. One would think this would be exactly the kind of person who would be fighting for gender neutral facilities.

YesSirCowBoy · 21/08/2018 12:50

Do you remember Jess Bradley state on Sky news that no trans activists wanted to debate because the press and feminists then started to dig into who they were?

Julia was amazing completely uncompromising in her message as to the safety of women and girls.

Ferrari absolutely refused to let Vicky derail or take over the conversation. I do wonder why one of the usual suspects on the TRA side weren’t interviewed- Vicky was very much a lame duck and clearly had no idea of what women’s problems with this is. The fact they couldn’t even say the word “penis” was telling.

#stickerwoman truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

BeUpStanding · 21/08/2018 13:04

Woohoo! Julia you were absolutely magnificent StarStarStar

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/08/2018 13:05

I just listened too. Really refreshing to hear the facts being backed up by the presenter.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/08/2018 13:06

I'm catching up, but re the Scottish toilet incident:

“She explained that a crazy man with long hair was in the bathroom

But referred to as 'they' throughout. Curious.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/08/2018 13:06

And that's why the stickers work so bloody well - there so nothing on them that a sane person can dispute or argue against.

There's a great deal of information on these threads and questions should be asked of those who are influencing policy, public services and society:

Lisa Vogel founder Michigan Womyn’s Festival, quoted in Jonny Best's update to recent article: 'The truth about Michigan Womyn’s Festival and trans women — a correction.'
(extract)
"I don’t think this is the greater trans community doing this. I’ve known too many trans women who have it in their hearts to recognize both the similarities and differences between trans womyn and born female. I see a small network of privileged trans women who carry a lot of financial and political clout, who are connected to deep deep pockets and broad political influencers who are running the story tirelessly. And doing a fucking brilliant job of controlling the cultural narrative and advancing legislative changes. In all things we are experiencing now — it only takes the inaction of good people, willing to do nothing, for this to define the shape of our world. "

Julia sounds like a skilled communicator. She:

Speaks in plain, understandable language. Summarises the reason behind the penis stickers in a few short sentences that are easily grasped. Does the same for the notion of Gender self-declaration. Manages to broaden the discussion from changing rooms to the dignity, privacy and security rights of women.

And finally, she uses the powerful and accurate description for trans ideology: it's duplicitous.

A superb advocate.

Lottapianos · 21/08/2018 13:22

'Julia sounds like a skilled communicator'

And I think she reminds us all what a rare thing that is

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 21/08/2018 13:30

Just listening now.
Those comments from Vicky about the care of an elderly patient are shocking, utterly shocking. The lack of understanding that a woman might need a female carer or HCP to attend to their needs says it all really.

This truly is the hill I am willing to die on.

vaginafetishist · 21/08/2018 13:33

Oh i know, duplicitous . Just wonderful.

DeniedReality · 21/08/2018 13:35

I do hope there are no jealous feelings towards Julia, we need the best person for the job.

LoafEater · 21/08/2018 13:48

Just listened - fantastic, well done Julia. I’ll bet that helped trans peak a few listeners. This is the thing, there is a huge majority of people who have never given any of this any thought at all. It’s just not in their radar. Most of my friends for sure anyway. When they hear calm, educated and articulate people like Julia just talking sense, it’s obvious to them - this TRA nonsense is just not going to fly in the real world.

Mytholmroyd · 21/08/2018 13:50

And a Brava Flowers from me Julia! StarStarStar brilliant just brilliant!

vesuvia · 21/08/2018 13:53

happydappy2 wrote - "The only people who can become women are girls."

I think this is what Simone de Beauvoir was referring to in her well-known statement: "One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman."

(It is from her book "The Second Sex" published in 1949, long before transgender ideology on the Internet started.)

I think it is clear that De Beauvoir meant:
A girl (human female child) becomes a woman (human female adult) by naturally maturing biologically AND experiencing the expectations that society has for female people.

De Beauvoir did NOT mean:
"A male person is not born, but rather becomes, a woman." (which is the spin that many transactivists put on the quotation).

I hope LBC's inbox is ready for the onslaught.
I can practically hear the hatred dripping off this tweet.
Definite ratcheting up of the anger on the Twitter sphere past few weeks.

TimeLady · 21/08/2018 13:58

Handy that she's retweeted the relevant link to the interview though....

hellandhairnets · 21/08/2018 13:58

Been lurking for ages and just joined MN to say bloody well done, Julia. I'm so glad this is getting out there to the wider public at last.

LoafEater, I think you are right about the majority having not given this any thought at all.

One thing that struck me about the interview - and the comments even from the interviewer about "ah yes, hadn't thought of that" - is how few people (men particularly) understand WHY we have sex-segregated spaces in the first place and therefore why it's an issue.

BraveAndStunning · 21/08/2018 14:17

I also love Graham Lineham. They are seriously gunning for him today and he's enjoying the sport.

Julia, you smashed it, thank you Grin

Thanks to PP for posting that video of Julia, who is incredible.

I was actually chuckling throughout when the TRA fumbled their lines.

Nick was having none of it.

Julia shoe-horned some key points into this. Nobody spoke over her (unlike the biased Genderquake debate) and, hearing this on the radio makes the absurdities clearer.

My favourite bits were when Julia pointed out she is a lesbian and when Nick 'misgendered' (in TRAs' eyes) the TRA and you hear a very quiet 'she' spoken afterwards. Even Nick picked up the 'angry' women line.

This TRA showed themselves up a treat. Julia was magnificent.

therealposieparker · 21/08/2018 14:23

What's not to love about Julia Long?!

She should be the number one go to woman to represent our side of this movement. Charming, funny, accurate and NEVER capitulates. She's also exceptionally likeable and one of our greatest assets.

More of her on tv and radio please.

WomblingWoman · 21/08/2018 14:28

Julia was fabulous 👏

One of my favourite bits was when she said "I'm a lesbian"...😂

The TRA strategy to define "different types" of women is so disingenuous and insulting.

I'm not a sub category of my own sex and neither is any other woman because of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, fertility, levels of anger (FFS) or any other reason.

The care worker got my goat by missing the point that if self id becomes law, the ability to insist on same sex care becomes impossible because legally that care worker is whatever sex they say they are - ergo they could not be replaced in the circumstances they described.

As for the "happy to let people live their lives" caller - all well and good when it's not infringing on the rights of others. Take smoking as an example - I'm happy to defend a persons right to smoke, but quite rightly we have legislation that limits smoking in public spaces because it infringes the rights of non smokers to enjoy a clean air environment.

I don't care how a person wants to identify and dress on a day to day basis but I don't believe that their choices should run roughshod over my sex based protections and ability to compete equitably in sports.

I really hope that more programs like this will get the message out - the arguments for self id are so weak and the negative impacts so strong - that when discussed openly people should be baffled as why there is a need to review this legislation at all (other than to actually tighten sex based rights).
