You should be able to listen again here. 9am. There's a discussion going on now.

Talking about the penis stickers, and single sex spaces.

The trans-activist they on says that we should make space for all kinds of women: including "angry" women.

Yes, now there are women, angry women and trans women.

A PP added a brilliant youtube video of Julia.

I was really interested to hear Julia talking about the importance of not validating TRA claims that they are women by using trans woman, T*M etc.

In the LBC interview Julia always refers to "so called" Trans women. I'd like to explore that and start using those terms too. Or have the word police claimed those too?

Are there any previous discussions on this at all?

Did anyone else get the impression that Vicky was hearing from a radical feminist for the very first time? They found it very hard going, with long gaps between a question being put and their answer.

This is the trouble when you exist in an echo chamber. You are feted for being brave and stunning. You get your information about turves from unreliable and biased sources. You become unfamiliar with the need to persuade people to your cause with sound evidence-based arguments. You are reduced to whining that angry women are being mean.

Let's hope that other Gender Extremists will venture out into the light and air their case.

There are many amazing Gender Critical All Stars..

It would be great to have a thread honouring and celebrating them and linking to some of their most glorious moments.

It would really cheer me up any time I felt despondent.

Julia Long is very well experienced and has a long history of brilliant media moments. Quite a catalogue could be brought together.

arranfan · 21/08/2018 20:54

have the word police claimed those too?

I think the stickied terms and conditions might exclude the use of " ", "so called" etc. depending on context. Other readers' interpretations might differ from mine.

I must admit that there are times when ci devant/self-styled/self-avowed would seem appropriate but I hesitate to use those because of the guidelines. And this is despite all of my misgivings about what it means to have language restricted or being dragooned into having to say things that are known to be untrue as an act of oppression and subjugation. (NB moving away from social psychologists for one, I'm thinking of the Language Debates of Ngugi and Achebe pdf )

vaginafetishist · 21/08/2018 21:02

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite TheUterati was a poster who talked on here about the same issues to do with language and use of transwomen etc. She has been banned by mumsnet.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 21/08/2018 21:07

Thanks - I suspected it may not meet the guidelines.

Will reserve it for IRL and other digital platforms to MN.

vaginafetishist · 21/08/2018 21:17

I didn't mean it like that! We can still talk about it. I agree with Julia totally and won't use transwomen or even trans at all.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice
It's so important with a bit of positivity in all this. I came across a great "thank you" thread from about a year ago, which put a smile on my face. We could bump it/make a new one if you'd like:

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 21/08/2018 22:15

Lovely thread there heresyandwitchcraft thanks.

That was from Nov last year - it is crazy to think how many new Gender Critical Stars have risen since then!

It was pre-#ManFriday!

Voice0fReason · 21/08/2018 23:16

Julia Long is a Star
So clearly put her points across while the TRA came across like an idiot.
Angry women are a different type of woman are they?!?

ToeToToe · 22/08/2018 01:36

Can I just say, thank you women of mumsnet for such a fantastic thread - -I started this thread this morning having perused twitter and seen that Julia would be on LBC -and heard how fantastic she was, posted this thread. I then had to go out for the rest of the day - you know, dragging the children out to social engagements in the summer hols... - and I'm still catching up Blush

So wonderful see so many wonderful women coming together on this, and not a single deletion! We WILL get there.

Can anyone point me to the catch-up recording of the related ‘phone-in?

NotMeOhNo · 22/08/2018 07:08

There's a link to the recording on r/GenderCritical.

Wanderabout
That's a good list of articulate women with 'media' skills. It's a very hard challenge responding to questions and live media situations about this difficult subject and all these women have managed this brilliantly.
Julie Bindel is another media savvy woman - and the iconic Germaine Greer.
Our narratives have shifted lately and people are so much more 'on point' . Lots of articulate posts swiftly delivered on threads. It seems as if we're all benefitting from the brilliant work being done with the written word as well, the data, the clarity of thought and analysis. Dr Nic Williams, Fair Play for Women, WPUK, Transgendertrend, ManFriday and those fighting the good fight against the misogynists on twatter. R0wantrees relentless presenting of our collective memory / experience. Datun consistently modelling assertive responses - and far too many outstanding posters to mention on one thread. But Flowers and thank you for every wonderful woman posting on here - these toxic issues can at times drain our resilience and affect our mental health.

Just one worry - I'm not sure that the weetabix experts and recipe lovers who appear on certain threads (especially at midnight) are quite as "disciplined" - but they are so bloody funny Grin

Lottapianos · 22/08/2018 07:51

'Julie Bindel is another media savvy woman'

She is, and is much better as a speaker than in print. A bit like Julia Long, she comes across as a reasonable person with a sense of humour
