You should be able to listen again here. 9am. There's a discussion going on now.

Talking about the penis stickers, and single sex spaces.

The trans-activist they on says that we should make space for all kinds of women: including "angry" women.

Yes, now there are women, angry women and trans women.

Julia is so likeable, professional and articulate. Please do more.

Hearing a non woke presenter who encouraged the debate and did not fawn over the TRA made such a difference.

TRAs have had the advantage of sycophantic presenters in many an interview.

I may have to keep this interview for those days when the Twitter trolls are testing my patience.

The TRA argument is a house of cards.

I thank StickerWoman for bringing this out. It made the police look daft too, so perhaps the mayor and co will think twice now.

More acts of rebellion like Stickerwoman may just push this madness into living rooms everywhere.

The care worker was a man. I've had experience with this regarding male workers looking after an elderly senile woman (who had other health problems as well) whose main carers specifically asked for no male to partake in intimate care. He didn't last long, despite it being a husband and wife team. The woman in question became very distressed and it exacerbated and already touch and go problem for her.

hackmum · 21/08/2018 14:44

That tweet, though DJLippy - "Report the stupid bitch for hate crime." Have these people got no sense of irony?

LoopholesInSystem · 21/08/2018 14:46

Tweet the Merseyside Mayor and Labour peer, ask them who needs reporting to the police.

arranfan · 21/08/2018 14:47

"Report the stupid bitch for hate crime." Have these people got no sense of irony?

If misogyny were a hate crime, I wonder how they'd express themselves if they're currently entirely satisfied with the reasonableness of their current discourse in very public social media?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/08/2018 14:48

Delighted to have the link to this. Thank you.

I sat through a panel talk of all women - plus the token transwoman - last week. The shocking rate of murder came up, that women are still dying at the hands of men and that it is not changing. The transwoman said "I disagree that things aren't changing, I'd say that things have radically improved in the last five years"

Yes, love, things have improved for you and your community. You are a 6' cubed hulking great lump of a person. No one's going to strangle you.

Am seething about it. Am going to have to email the transwoman and point out that she needs to check her privilege.

Oh and Julia was brilliant. I've seen her present and chair a conference. She's as good in real like as she is on the radio.

Good question, arranfan. Having watched all this stuff for a long time now, I'm interested in the fact that the aggression, the extreme hate and use of misogynistic abuse appear to be a deliberate tactic. I can see that the aim of that is to intimidate and frighten women into silence but it also, surely, has the effect of alienating people who are unsure where they stand. Maybe that doesn't matter to them as much as the silencing?

placemats · 21/08/2018 14:56

I think they will eventually get fed up with the 'walking on eggshells'.

I'm reminded of one of the best jokes this year from the Edinburgh Festival. yeah, I know it's Dave

I’ve got a new job collecting all the jumpers left in the park at the weekends, but it’s not easy. They keep moving the goalposts.

They all have irony bypass surgery hackmum

They are desperate to get into the women's toilets.

Now there is no one on this planet who can look at a women and describe her as a t*f. Yet, they are perfectly happy to walk into women's spaces and risk the literal hatred of t*fs, because they know that if a woman speaks out about it it is a hate crime.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 21/08/2018 15:49

I think I need to use the 'Angry Women' changing room. FFS. Well done Julia!

heresyandwitchcraft · 21/08/2018 15:50

YEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Julia is a superstar. Star Magnificent performance.
Also, really respect the way Nick Ferrari approached this. "Identifying as a woman on Tuesdays" was a perfect way of framing the argument for the problems with self-ID. His conversations with the callers wondering about all the implications was like listening to someone "peak trans" on air.
And the speculation as to why the Guardian got a sticker....
So so so good.
Gonna listen again.
Thanks for sharing.

MnerXX · 21/08/2018 16:04

Brilliant interview - thank you Julia and Nick!

FloralBunting · 21/08/2018 16:38

Eldest miniBunting just listened with me. At a number of choice moments like "I'm a lesbian myself...", she clapped her hands together and said "Sit down!"
When it was over she said "I'm going start posting facts everywhere and daring people to call me a bigot for it."

She has spent the rest of the day randomly saying "Human noses are in the centre of the face" and "Fish don't wear wigs".

rememberatime · 21/08/2018 16:40

I'm guessing that in trans circles "angry woman" is often used as yet another slur. Vicky came out with it pretty quickly when asked to list "types" of women. It's a phrase that this person has used before.

FloralBunting · 21/08/2018 16:45

Vicky used it twice in the whole interview, so yes, I should think it's probably a well worn phrase in their vocab. They probably think it's devastatingly clever and have a snigger over it with their chums. Bless.

TheChampagneGalop · 21/08/2018 16:46

Ha, that was hilarious. There are different types of women...such as lesbians...and angry women Grin

TransplantsArePlants · 21/08/2018 16:48

Yes, the angry women thing was strange. More and more TRAs just come over as imbeciles

placemats · 21/08/2018 16:57

You know a trans woman can have their own space in London where they can go and be themselves.

But a woman's space is being eroded constantly to the point the only space for them will be either with their parents or with their husbands/partners.

Obviously women will be allowed into supermarkets to get the shopping.

FloralBunting · 21/08/2018 17:00

placemats, I'm not so sure, tbh. Groceries can be delivered now. All a woman really needs in terms of outdoor space is a small balcony. A window will do for the poorer ones.

KOKOagainandagain · 21/08/2018 17:01

Baffled to learn that the 'types' of women are

  1. Lesbians
  2. Angry women
  3. Men

Are the 'types' of men therefore

  1. Gay
  2. Angry men
  3. Women?

I am biologically female (outdated concept) but as I am not irrationally angry and at all times and heterosexual that makes me a type of man! Who knew? I look forward to claiming my privilege.

Kyanite · 21/08/2018 17:05

Michael here explains it as an autogynephile himself.
