Looks like Grindr are setting up a trans version... but the name...

They've chosen is "kindr".

Given the disturbing underground usage of the term "kind" is that not an odd choice?

They've not said exactly what the new app is but from the video it does imply it's trans-focused.

Kindr? What does it mean in the context of trans dating?

Kindr, to me, is about children. Kindergarten, kinder eggs etc.

Or kinder- as in being kind.

Popchyk · 10/08/2018 19:34

Kinder is children in German.

PerfectPenquins · 10/08/2018 19:34

Yea I read it as kinder as in the kids eggs and that was just disturbing

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/08/2018 19:36

Jeez, presumably they've 'focus grouped' the whole premise & no one spotted that?

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 10/08/2018 19:39

"Kind" is one of the euphemistic names paedophiles use to refer to themselves

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 19:40

OH Christ!! Shock really? Ive never heard that. Kind as in nice, kind people or kind as in the German word?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/08/2018 19:41

Yes you would say it like Kinder ie children.

Yikes that was a stupid thing to do.

Maybe someone will point it out and they will change it?

nauticant · 10/08/2018 19:41

Kinder is children in German.

My immediate thought too. I can't believe they're unaware of this. In which case WTF are they up to?

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 10/08/2018 19:42

I think it's a play on all three.

OP posts:
ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 10/08/2018 19:42

Sorry I mean both meanings - kind as in nice and kind as in the German.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/08/2018 19:43

Just googled

" It also tweeted a link to a website called kindr.grindr.com, which currently only has the voiceover and the tagline: “It's time to play nice.”."

The connection with children is deliberate then.

My mind is totally and utterly boggled. What the actual fuck?

IAmInsignificunt · 10/08/2018 19:45

🤢

SciFiFan2015 · 10/08/2018 19:45

I would imagine it's said to rhyme with grindr

SciFiFan2015 · 10/08/2018 19:47

I've always imagined grindr is pronounced like grind with an r on the end. (To rhyme with wynd).

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/08/2018 19:47

Munroe Bergdof was supposedly working with Grindr late July after they called out the racism & transphobia. Is this the outcome? Shock

What the fuck?

There's no way they could have not noticed this. Big brands (and Grindr is a big brand) employ people to check out that their new product lines don't have names with unfortunate connotations in other languages. And German is not exactly an obscure language.

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 19:52

and the tagline: “It's time to play nice.”

That’s fucking sick. What’s wrong with them? Do they think that’s a joke?

FloralBunting · 10/08/2018 19:59

Oh come on.

Can someone please uncover this as 4chan wind up effort? Because for someone to think this is fine has all sorts of consequences about the world that I don't really want to acknowledge.

OlennasWimple · 10/08/2018 20:02

This....this can't be serious?! Shock

sexnotgender · 10/08/2018 20:02

I was just a little sick in my mouth Envy

Melamin · 10/08/2018 20:05

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/07/27/grindr-racism-kindr-announcment/

There is a pink news article from July

hackmum · 10/08/2018 20:05

Bit more about it here:

www.gaytimes.co.uk/news/111458/grindr-hints-at-new-kindr-version-of-the-dating-app-to-tackle-discrimination/

I think it's supposed to be "kinder" as in rhymes with "Grindr", not "kinder" as in the German for children. But obviously not a great choice.
