Looks like Grindr are setting up a trans version... but the name...

They've chosen is "kindr".

Given the disturbing underground usage of the term "kind" is that not an odd choice?

They've not said exactly what the new app is but from the video it does imply it's trans-focused.

And why are they pinning this on the gay community?

Every gay man I've ever met, has always been very blatant about their likes and dislikes. I mean, in your face blatant. I mean, why wouldn't they be - they are men and as such have no illusions about trying to pretend to be PC in any way.

It is either a massive wind up, or severely sinister and underhand - and in both instances, the trans community should be fuming not posting on twitter that FWR should be closed down or the police called on us for pointing it out.

The fact that they are not furious - what is that saying in itself?

WibblePod · 11/08/2018 10:20

I can't see how it will be successful tbh. Their target audience seems to be people who aren't finding dates with their target demographic, along with the people who don't want to date them but should be 'kinder' and do it anyway.
The first group will sign up, the second won't.

The thing is, as a woman you meet a fair amount of misogonystic men, racist men, men who don't want to date fat people on these dating apps. I get annoyed by these men because I think they are arseholes but I don't get annoyed that they wouldn't date me for whatever reason, I absolutely don't want them to start dating me because they are dicks. I would rather they were open about their arseholeness so I can give them a wide berth. I don't want to tell them "give fat people a chance" because I think overweight people/black people/disabled people deserve better than someone who hates them.

wordsmeansomething · 11/08/2018 16:27

What is wrong with all of you?? It's to tackle racism on the main app -Grindr. Kindr as in KIND, as in 'to be kinder'. You are the most paranoid group of human beings I've ever come across. You're linking this to pedophilia and bringing in Munroe Bergdorf for absolutely no reason. Are you all completely devoid of brain cells? I'm seriously worried for your children that they're being raised by such bigoted and delusional people.

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 16:33

That's a rather ironic name, wordsmeansomething. I quite agree, they do.

I believe MB has been discussing this? RTFT.

The fact remains that Kindr is a fucking stupid name for a dating app.

Another good point:

Surely instead of creating a whole new “racism free” app, which is essentially validating the “racist dating one”, Grindr could actually just address the racism on the existing app and delete racist users?

CAAKE · 11/08/2018 16:58

If Kindr is all "about racism" why is it being marketed as "shaking up the cis-tem"? This tweet reads clearly as if it's aimed at trans people.

Yeeeah - it is all us. Sure thing. We brought MB in all on our own.

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/08/2018 17:06
  1. It’s a stupid name for a dating app.
  2. It’s incredibly marketing - you do not create an offshoot of your main product that’s ‘less racist’ because it implies your main product IS racist. Imagine a big trusted brand doing adverts like ‘New!! Wheatyflakes! Less toxic than regular Wheatyflakes!’ - stupid idea.

Words DO mean something. This is a spectacular marketing fail. It’s actively suggesting that the main brand is racist/discriminatory. A group of stoned badgers could have come up with a less shit name and marketing angle.

SisterNotCisTerf · 11/08/2018 17:15

It's to tackle racism on the main app -Grindr.

So are they getting rid of Grindr and replacing it with kindr? Otherwise I can’t see how a new app tackles racism on the existing app. It’s just a new app where you can’t be racist and the existing app stays as racist as it was.

TeeJay1970 · 11/08/2018 17:27

Save your breath WORDS.

Arguing with the people here is like playing chess against a pigeon. They knock all the pieces over, shit all over the board and then strut around lime they won.

I lurk a lot on here purely for the comedy value - I'm rarely disappointed.

SisterNotCisTerf · 11/08/2018 17:29

Can you explain it teejay? How does a new app tackle racism on an existing app?

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 17:32

Yes I'm agog to hear.

Melamin · 11/08/2018 17:39

Me too

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 17:39

Do enlighten us pigeons.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 11/08/2018 17:46

Looks like someone has a cake to bake...

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 17:52

Ganache or buttercream?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 11/08/2018 17:52

That munroe person has posted examples of horrendous racism but used it to bang in about transphobia. Of which there isn't any in the examples she posted.

CholloDeNombre · 11/08/2018 17:57

Are we putting in orders? Carrot cake for me.

hipsterfun · 11/08/2018 18:00

Poor old Munroe isn’t the sharpest tool in the box.

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 18:00

YY Queen.

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/08/2018 18:00

How does creating a ‘less racist’ offshoot app make any sense for your main product?

‘New wheatyflakes! Less poisonous! Now with less strychnine!’ (Voiceover) please continue to eat regular wheatyflakes, the healthy choice for your family...’

Vickyyyy · 11/08/2018 18:17

This has to be a pisstake. And its clearly nothing to do with racism given the advert tbh. And if it WAS about tackling racism, wouldn't actually tackling racism be the best way to do that? Not allowing the racism to remain, while making another app for other people for fucks sake.

A decent enough idea in theory. Like, I get that transmen who fancy men will be annoyed with the amount of times they are turned down for not being...male. So having an app where people are open to trans people regardless of stage in transition seems a good idea on the surface, though I haven't thought into it too much really. But...this kinder thing is..dodgy IMO.

Vickyyyy · 11/08/2018 18:19

Have never been on grindr though, do they not have matching bits, like where you can describe yourself and say what you are looking for? I have seen gay men going a bit off it about transmen kicking off that they have 'no trans' on dating profiles (not sure if its grindr or not though)..but you simply cannot pressure someone into changing their sexual orientation, and trying to do so makes you an utter twat I think.
