Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

You keep using the word unsubstantiated, why don't you believe what other women are telling you? Why are you so keen to ignore their experience?

I'm not keen to ignore anyone's experiences. Not lesbians who have been coerced into sex, or transgender people who are not sexual predators but have been lumped in with them.

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 21:30

Can I ask what HQ is?

Me mucking about because... well, I don't know. I like mucking about? Is that allowed? Or does performative wokeness eschew mirth? Is it like the Puritans banning the maypole or something?

If you could go somewhere beyond the crib sheet, I'll stop. Solemn promise.

(All of this is me mucking about. It's my MO.)

I'd like that to be substantiated, for example.

Have you read any of the links? There is a woman here who has shared her personal experience of it. So I repeat my question, what evidence will you accept?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 21:32

I'd just rather not align with someone who thinks it's okay to insult women for having a view different to their own.

Fine, stay aligned with the rapey ones. We'll be over here with the Gin

Pratchet · 09/07/2018 21:33

Lgbtqi are you kidding? There's evidence all over social media and personal accounts of distress

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 09/07/2018 21:33

Well, the leaflet the protesters handed out said that there were many transgender people in the queer community using coercive methods to get non consenting lesbians to sleep with them - I'd like that to be substantiated, for example

Oh this again. How many women's testimony would you consider acceptable 'substantiation'?

LeiaTheSlaya · 09/07/2018 21:33

I don't believe one marginalized group has the right to spread unsubstantiated claims about another marginalized group under the umbrella of protest.

I absolutely take the rights of survivors seriously. Please don't put words into my mouth.

Posting without any further comment.

Marginalised groups should not get a free-pass from scrutiny just because they are marginalised. Look at Rotherham. Fear of offending and upsetting people is not good safeguarding. If TRAs are supporting rape culture (and many tweets suggest they are) why is it only victims and potential victims calling them on it? Why aren't their own groups calling them on it? It's sick.

YYY.

In the same way that Muslim people should not have to call out terrorists who commit atrocities under the guise of 'Islam', the transgender community should not have to take responsibility or call out sexual predators who happen to identify as transgender. Everyone should be calling out sexual predators, which do not just target the lesbian community, but most vulnerable and marginalized communities out there.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 21:36

Goodness. The harsh words were mine. Certain was saying that she understands your position as most of us have been there.

And thanks Erishkigal Grin I was a bit naughty though...

Bespin · 09/07/2018 21:36

Well this is a particularly angery night on here. People mostly seem to be fighting each other about what they don't and do mean. il pop back later if there are any actual points to. discuss

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 21:37

We fucking are! And you're arguing with us!

Ereshkigal · 09/07/2018 21:37

Not only do many TRAs express s wish to exact punishment violence against disobedient women, but when they express this they can practically do so with impunity because no one calls them out on it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 21:38

With that attitude bespin i wouldnt fucking bother

And fucking isnt angry...i just enjoy swearing Grin

Ereshkigal · 09/07/2018 21:39

What you are doing is creating a culture where certain people can't be challenged. Where abuse disappears in the big picture. Why do you think Rotherham was shoved under the carpet for so long?

Baumederose · 09/07/2018 21:39

I'm sorry but this is a democracy the last time i looked.

The right to protest is long established.

You can't cherry pick the issues you agree can protested and those that can't. Otherwise that isn't a democracy. It's something else entirely.

Hands off protests.

Bespin · 09/07/2018 21:39

rufus you really need to Change ya name to the swearing raindeer. lol

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 21:39

Me too rufus, me too. Grin

Ereshkigal · 09/07/2018 21:41

Well said. Who made this person the arbiter?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 21:41

Sadly i had to check what i was called then Grin

Id completely forgotten the 'yawning' bit

titchy · 09/07/2018 21:41

I'd like that to be substantiated, for example

Perhaps you should have asked someone to turn that leaflet over for you. Ffs.

FloralBunting · 09/07/2018 21:43

Ah, but it isn't very feminine to be so very sweary. (As an aside, I'm amused that my autocorrect capitalizes Sweary. The woman's a ledge')

And incidentally, being angry about lesbian erasure isn't ladylike either.

So please, ladies, pinkies up, frills on and compose yourselves.

Or, you know, get fucking angry and be piss-takingly funny along with it to release the pressure of arguing with relentless streams of visiting chumpnuggets.
