A group of independent trans people have called on Together for Yes to formally apologise to the trans people of Ireland, and to acknowledge the pain caused by the trans exclusionary campaign ran by the group in the referendum to repeal the eighth amendment of the constitution.

That was great - my first laugh of the morning.

The campaign to repeal the 8th was so tough on all the poor transwomen who had to listen to those thoughtless vagina-havers talk about their icky wombs. Let us apologise, and centre them in all future discussion about pregnancy and abortion.

We really need to feel sorry for the actual vagina-havers who know they are not women.

It must be a joke - something put out to bolster the idea of mental illness in some of these 'activists'. It just can't be real?

I'm wondering how all the earnest young women who turn up outside the WPUK meetings to yell at other women are processing this.

I can imagine them being very much in the YES camp - this must be wobbling their heads.

This is a real demand for an apology all right - this is where appeasement has got us. Transactivists have got our politicians saying "transwomen are women" and using "trans-inclusive" language in the NHS.

Women's issues aren't allowed to be about women anymore - it has to centre trans issues.

I'd say women who have suffered miscarriages, infertility and hysterectomies - hey everyone trans men would be in front of them in the apology queue.

They've existed since March on twitter and been trying to inject trans political ideology into the Together for Yes campaign for the last couple of months.

I note that even the Trans Voices for Appeal group don't actually claim to have done anything at all in order to get the law changed. Just waited for someone else to do the hard work and then swoop in at the end to try to hijack it. And force an apology.

Now that laws will be changed, they are trying to put a stake in the ground. Ground they had no part in creating.

If the Together for Yes campaign had failed, then Trans Voices for Appeal would have demanded an apology and said that the campaign failed because it wasn't trans inclusive and the public voted no purely because transgender issues were not centred in the campaign.

Everything is always about trans whatever the outcome.

Just sent the link to my lib fem friend, we don't talk about gender since nearly falling out a couple of months ago after she sent a male women's officer a supportive tweet and I pointed out their narcissism. She's Irish, it'll be interesting to see what she makes of this. The comments under the article are interesting.

It's important to watch for new legislation in Ireland which includes the definition of 'woman'.

In acknowledging the experiences of people who identify as trans men and non-binary there may be wider implications.
