A letter to a female transactivist

Just saw this on Twitter. Brilliant

"A man is not a woman. There’s no medical procedure that can change sex in humans or any other mammal. When you fight for the right of men to call themselves “women” and enter woman-only spaces on the basis of their say so, you are doing what Men’s Rights Activists have always done. You are violating women’s boundaries for personal gain. You are allowing men to colonise women’s spaces. You are creating a climate of fear where women and girls will start to withdraw from public life, because all semblance of safety – access to sex seggregated spaces when they are vulnerable – will be destroyed. Your activism is not feminism, it’s at best a misguided naiveté, and at worst opportunism to get ahead while throwing other women under the bus. And by the time you realise how foolish you’ve been, because you are “just” a woman in those men’s eyes, it’ll be too late. The way entitled men disrespect women, the way they mow women down, the way they put their own needs, feelings and wants before women’s lives and livelihoods, they’ll do the same to you when you’re no longer useful to them."

It's fine by me. Trans ladies can definitely be ladies.

We'll keep on being women.

PurpleCrowbar · 28/05/2018 22:08

I think it's fair to say the women on thus thread are well informed about chromosomes.

Destinysdaughter · 28/05/2018 22:09

FFS I'd love a o be able to 'live and let live', but when we have men threatening to rape us, telling us to 'suck my dick ' and 'enjoy your erasure' etc I'm sorry but I can't do that. I've had many Trans friends, but NONE of them were like this lot who want to claim everything that is ours and won't be satisfied until they do. We could have been such good allies to them but instead they've shown themselves to be misogynists at their very core and have shot themselves in the foot now.

< apart from the great ones on here obvs >

Anushka
You so sexist it's breathtaking.
It's beyond me how a TIM can include in a sentence the phrase "who by their very nature are meant to be".

Who by your very nature are you meant to be?

MadgeMak · 28/05/2018 22:10

I couldn't agree more... Trans people don't choose their path in life.. Yet they abuse they receive is heartbreaking... Especially from 'mothers' who are by nature meant to be caring and nurturing x

Oh do fuck off.

PencilsInSpace · 28/05/2018 22:12

'Lady' expresses far more accurately what TIMs actually want than 'woman'. Woman is sex, lady is gender.

We could have 'ladies only' things - open to all female ladies and trans ladies, and then 'women only' things - open to adult human females, regardless of how feminine or otherwise we are.

We'd need to change the loo signs.

wishiwassizeeight · 28/05/2018 22:14

Being a woman is a presence, now??

Oh, do you know I’m too tired to engage with such abject ignorance and stupidity.

PencilsInSpace · 28/05/2018 22:18

Hysterectomy is a female experience. No male has ever had one.

Being a woman is more than just physical.. Its a presence..

What does this mean? Is it like a ghost or when someone moves the glass when you're doing a ouija board?

I'm sure half of the haters on here need a shave than a lot of men...

You are India Willoughby and I claim my £5.

OldCrone · 28/05/2018 22:19

I'm a mother to three beautiful girls.

How do you know they are girls?

PencilsInSpace · 28/05/2018 22:20

It's fine by me. Trans ladies can definitely be ladies.

We'll keep on being women.

I really think this could be the way forward and get us out of this horrible impasse.

Hyppolyta · 28/05/2018 22:22

Anush I had a hysterectomy, as I had cancer amd it was needed to save my life.

That doesnt make me a fucking man. Stop being stop insulting and stupidly comparing men with cancer survivers.

Terfulike · 28/05/2018 22:24

It's actually a great idea. Women's toilets for terfs, Laydees toilets for Tims , Mens toilets for genetic men, and gentlemens toilets for Stephen Whittle.

Terfulike · 28/05/2018 22:26

The gender Fluids can go to the Laydees when they get bored of SW.

LangCleg · 28/05/2018 22:40

Being a woman is more than just physical.. Its a presence

Oh guff off. What a load of old baloney. I don't believe that you have given birth to three daughters.

soapboxqueen · 28/05/2018 22:46

... it's a presence

Sounds like something haunting the decrepit house at the end of the street.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 28/05/2018 23:22

certainhalfdesertedstreets" or some thing silly like that

You can say what you like about me. But hands off J Alfred Prufrock Grin

jedenfalls · 28/05/2018 23:30

You are India Willoughby and I claim my £5.

ROFL.

i bought a copy of Private Eye yesterday, but I can’t tell satire from real life anymore.

titchy · 28/05/2018 23:37

Being a woman is more than just physical..

Nope. Being female is ONLY about the physical and what results from that physicality. Fuck all to do with essences, presences and everything to do with XX chromosomes.

AncientLights · 29/05/2018 00:19

I think Anushkasmum is none other than our old friend Shon Faye:-

Woman is a loose shifting constellation of biological, political, cultural phenomena which varies according to context, place and time.

I claim my £5.

PurpleCrowbar · 29/05/2018 01:02

It's a new poster with a 'mum' name innit.

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 08:04

And I'm sure you don't need a lesson on chromosomes?

I’d love you to give me a lesson on chromosomes. I’ve been a geneticist for twenty odd years though so make it good.

Being a woman is more than just physical.. Its a presence..

Hahahah. You should write copy for perfume ads. ‘eau de femme. Pour Elle, maybe.

A presence? Like a soul? I dont believe in souls. Cartesian duality isn’t realy my thing but if your reasoning is based on souls then it’s a faith based position, not a scientific one. By definition.

So: can humans change sex?

Ten extra points for the hairy feminists jibe though. Really gives the rest of it some gravitas.

Anushkashsmum · 29/05/2018 08:54

If you read what I said properly... That is just what I said.. A woman who has a hysterectomy is still a woman...but some of the extremist on her make out otherwise. My ex husband called his sister a half woman which was a really cruel thing to say.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 08:56

Your ex husband posts on mumsnet?

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 08:59

Can humans change sex though?

Interested minds want to know

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 09:02

A woman who has a hysterectomy is still a woman...but some of the extremist on her make out otherwise.

I have only ever heard reference to this from TRAs who use this female experience to make their argument that they are similarly women.

It was made by TRAs on both the Victoria Derbyshire Show and GenderQuake and neither Victoria Derbyshire or Cathy Newman challenged this.

Like Hyppolyta I also had a hysterectomy, as I had cancer and it was needed to save my life.
