Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is feminism inherently sexist? Anybody for human rights anymore?

Feminism appears to only ever advocate for women's rights alone, even when we mention gender equality it is immediately presumed that it's an issue where women are in need of support and empowerment.
Is that not inherently sexist, solely focusing on the rights of only a subset of our species, why are we not advocating for human rights anymore?
There are at least 6 separate organisations where I work that advocate for gender equality and/or diversity and/or women's rights, and every one of them is focused on women's rights. Where I work females out perform and out number men, I don't understand how I'm suppose to be at an advantage because I'm a man, and there's not a single group I can go to for support as none of those groups are willing to offer me any of their services.
I'm all for human rights and consider myself an individualist where people should be awarded things on merit, but even when trying to pose questions in what should be a critical thinking environment I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?

All the MRA points are being hauled out! All of them! I hope I get to read about Erin Pizzey's dog before the night is out!

Antislut, did you know, that in my country, women in the military were barred from combat roles until 2013? Did you know that only changed because women in the military campaigned to change it?

Greymisty · 20/04/2018 00:02

Damit now singing Little Donkey to myself...

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:02

Dod you know when the suffragettes were fighting for the vote a poll was done showing that 60% or so percent of women didn't want the vote. Why? Because if you had the vote you had to enlist in the army.

Women didn't want the vote because they didn't want to enlist.

God damn the patriarchy protecting women from having to fight wars where millions died. If only they had been able to fight and die.

How about you just fuck off Antislut? and I speak as a daughter of a mother who died through suicide and is half way through a bottle of wine.

Greymisty · 20/04/2018 00:05

Grin thank you NKfell

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:06

I advocate for women. I just don't advocate for gender communism which is what some feminist do. I'm a woman and I don't see anyone taking into account my perspective. I'm not a feminist, therefore, I'm anti woman.

And you won, men let you join the military. Because they're evil and part of the patriarchy.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 20/04/2018 00:09

Pissing myself laughing at this one! Full bingo card!

NKFell · 20/04/2018 00:09

I doubt 60% didn’t want the vote because of wars, I think what’s more likely is the general acceptance that women were intellectually inferior...so pleased the men ‘let’ us in the end!

@greymisty we need verses Grin

HopScotchy · 20/04/2018 00:09

@antislut please leave it to another day, another thread.

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:10

Yeah, I'm sure you talk to plenty of young women who up until a year ago used to be feminist. Really predictable bingo card eh!

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 20/04/2018 00:10

And you won, men let you join the military.

Only because women demanded it. It wasn't done out of the goodness of their hearts.

This is radical I know, but men could have simply allowed women in in the first place instead of keeping us out.

NotTerfNorCis · 20/04/2018 00:11

Because if you had the vote you had to enlist in the army.

Not actually true. Plenty of men who could vote were exempt from military service. At the same time, plenty of men too poor to vote were conscripted.

If women were opposed to the vote it was because people were raised to believe that politics were unfeminine. One big argument against extending the vote to women was that in effect, the government would be giving husbands two votes. Of course now we realise that's nonsense, but a century ago it seemed like 'common sense'.

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:11

What an unbelievably black and white answer, who'd have guessed it!

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 20/04/2018 00:12

Dod you know when the suffragettes were fighting for the vote a poll was done showing that 60% or so percent of women didn't want the vote. Why?

I'd imagine a lot of them had internalized misogyny and simply did not believe women were capable of either voting or being enlisted.

Ahem. I speak for the fruit teas. I was silenced last night whilst promoting my enjoyment of blackcurrant tea. It's like Ribena, but not Ribena.

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:15

The Soviet Russians used to let women fight in the military. Because they didn't care if they were canon fodder. Believe it or not men care about their mothers and sisters and daughters and didn't want them to die. This was all before feminism. The good kind that said women should do what they want. Not that men are evil and out to get them and made women into victims.

R0wantrees · 20/04/2018 00:16

Wine thank you lunamoth

TotallyLibrarianPoo · 20/04/2018 00:16

Why was the Teascum thread deleted?

NowtSalamander · 20/04/2018 00:18

I have so missed people coming onto FWR and slagging is for being anything other than transphobes that I am willing to rename the movement gender communism and fight for men’s rights or whatever they want.

Antislut · 20/04/2018 00:18

Again, another black and white answer, with the extra special none words (internalised misogyny). You are so pro women you think they were dumb enough to think they thought they were too dumb to vote in the 1900s.

AornisHades · 20/04/2018 00:19

It wasn't your average man determining the right of working class men to stroll into the path of enemy bullets, sign up in jolly bands of pals to be annihilated and get trenchfoot. The ruling patriarchy made those decisions.
It wasn't the disenfranchised women making that choice.
