Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is feminism inherently sexist? Anybody for human rights anymore?

Feminism appears to only ever advocate for women's rights alone, even when we mention gender equality it is immediately presumed that it's an issue where women are in need of support and empowerment.
Is that not inherently sexist, solely focusing on the rights of only a subset of our species, why are we not advocating for human rights anymore?
There are at least 6 separate organisations where I work that advocate for gender equality and/or diversity and/or women's rights, and every one of them is focused on women's rights. Where I work females out perform and out number men, I don't understand how I'm suppose to be at an advantage because I'm a man, and there's not a single group I can go to for support as none of those groups are willing to offer me any of their services.
I'm all for human rights and consider myself an individualist where people should be awarded things on merit, but even when trying to pose questions in what should be a critical thinking environment I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?

this is why child benefit always went to the mother until Cameron and his cronies dismantled it

A pedant writes.... That's not correct: CB went to the resident parent or whichever parent registered for it. One important "side effect" of CB was that claiming CB meant the ability to also claim missing NI pension contributions for the first six (I think) years, recognising that CB would mostly be claimed by women who would be far more likely to be out of work in order to bring up kids.

Because my job was far more secure at the time when DC came along, therefore my DH was more likely to be made redundant and potentially benefit from the NI make up, DH was the recipient of CB in our household. It wasn't an automatic "it goes to the mother" system

(I don't know if that has changed in the last few years, it's a while since we claimed it)

Duly noted!

I was thinking about why I enjoyed this thread so much. It was a bloody relief to see out and out misogyny of the type I've been dealing with since I was self aware. I know what to do in the face of that.

when the misogynist is wearing a dress and telling you it's clothes and makeup and a weird feeling inside that makes you a woman and they're just like you except you should die in a fire it's so fucking disorientating.

Greymisty · 20/04/2018 18:50

Ditto ReluctantCamper!

I prefer dealing with sterotypical calling women love, strong and silent, builder type of man than a lefty lets talk about feelings (so he can centre his in everything) chinos wearing man, for similar reasons.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/04/2018 18:52

I keep misreading the thread title as "Is feminism inherently sexy"?

Pew Pew!

You betcha, baby Grin

ReluctantCamper · 20/04/2018 19:05

Is feminism inherently sexy?

now there's a question.

thebewilderness · 20/04/2018 19:27

It's simple enough. MRA'S and feminists are two sides of the same coin. Both hate filled self interest groups who believe that the world owes them something and that they're disadvantaged in some way. Even the demographics are pretty much the same. White and middle class, living in a western country in 2018 believing they're "opressed" is laughable really.

Perps and their victims. Two sides of the same coin according to the misogynist world view.

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2018 19:28

Sadly, a lot of young men my dd's age have discovered that saying you're a feminist makes you appear sexy........

CelticSelkie · 20/04/2018 19:35

Yeh I fell for that in my 40s. He'd read the female eunach and he definitely did not have madonna whore complex, he did love company of women but he would not commit and he used women but just 'nicely'. Confused

CelticSelkie · 20/04/2018 19:37

wanting equality is not the other side of 'the same coin' if mens rights activists are the other side of the coin Shock

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 20/04/2018 19:39

Sophocles 😂

Assuming this is referring to the universal child benefit which everyone gets I don't think that is correct. Our son was born in 1990. We have always had separate bank accounts. We chose to get it paid to my husband's account. It definitely wasn't automatically paid me.

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2018 20:17

I think the important thing about CB is that it was the woman who applied for it and who could get the money-unlike other benefits which went to the man.
