Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is feminism inherently sexist? Anybody for human rights anymore?

Feminism appears to only ever advocate for women's rights alone, even when we mention gender equality it is immediately presumed that it's an issue where women are in need of support and empowerment.
Is that not inherently sexist, solely focusing on the rights of only a subset of our species, why are we not advocating for human rights anymore?
There are at least 6 separate organisations where I work that advocate for gender equality and/or diversity and/or women's rights, and every one of them is focused on women's rights. Where I work females out perform and out number men, I don't understand how I'm suppose to be at an advantage because I'm a man, and there's not a single group I can go to for support as none of those groups are willing to offer me any of their services.
I'm all for human rights and consider myself an individualist where people should be awarded things on merit, but even when trying to pose questions in what should be a critical thinking environment I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:44

Antislut? I could be a sex negative feminist for all you know. I could also be a conservative Christian. Or maybe I just thought it was a funny name.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 19/04/2018 23:46

This is unadulterated bollocks!
You must be unbelievable privileged to not know how hard some jobs are and have been throughout history. That men did to provide for their families and women would never do or have done.

I think you are somewhat unaware of centuries of history!

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:48

Oh right, so those men fighting and dying in the first world war and the second? They were sooo privileged. Right.

BarrackerBarmer · 19/04/2018 23:49

I miss the TeaScum thread that got zapped.

We were really getting into the pros and cons of fruit teas.
Actually there were no pros.
Consensus was that fruit tea is in fact coloured hot water.

But still. It was enlightening.

HopScotchy · 19/04/2018 23:49

Sex negative feminist? What's one of those? No, I think it's pretty clear you are a bloke who feels his relationship(s) broke down because she/ they were 'sluts'.

NKFell · 19/04/2018 23:50

I have no idea why really but it always surprises me that people think this way. Each time I think people can’t honestly say it.

It’s the same as the people who say there shouldn’t be a Black Lives Matter it should be All Lives Matter...reminds me of what I heard a comedian say- “when I say I want to save the rainforest I’m not saying fuck other trees”.

Are people blind to it? It’s bizarre.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:50

What centuries? Enlighten me. Because as far as I'm aware. The monarchy and the nobility were the only privileged people in our societies for a long time (made up of both men and women). The peasantry (men and women) suffered horribly. Women and men had to work together to survive, a husband was not oppressing his wife and children when he put food on the table.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:51

I'm a woman in my twenties. You sexist!!

PencilsInSpace · 19/04/2018 23:51

Aww an old skool MRA. How quaint.

cforte0 · 19/04/2018 23:51

I'm off to sleep, have to go to work in my matriarchal microcosm tomorrow morning while the posters around me tell me I'm part of the patriarchy. Thanks for all the comments, some of them were insightful and pleasant.
Goodnight

Also a sex negative feminist is a feminist who hates porn and prostitution and bans page 3 girls. A sex positive feminist is one that supports free the nipple and takes half naked photos on Instagram or something and says she's liberated. 😃

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 19/04/2018 23:52

Oh right, so those men fighting and dying in the first world war and the second?

You mean wars which were started by other men and which women were forbidden from fighting in...by men?

LightofaSilveryMoon · 19/04/2018 23:53

Despite the closure of that worthy thread: I still think fruit tea is naught more than a brief, transient wafting fragrance and disappointing but coloured hot water.

Greymisty · 19/04/2018 23:54

Have another Biscuit

Sorry that biscuitis not catering to your special man needs....

Football

Better?

ps At least we can all agree that rhinos and donkeys are important.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:55

Oh yeah because women really wanted to leave there children and join the war and die. Women used to go out and publicly shame any men that stayed behind and didn't go to fight. 😂

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 19/04/2018 23:56

Men do the risky jobs because women generally don't want to do them

You mean like how men don't want to do the poorly paid caring roles?

The courts assume that the woman is the best carer for the child.

The courts tend to favour the child's primary caregiver. Nine times out of ten that is their mother.

Generally the parent who is the primary caregiver pre-separation continues to be their primary caregiver afterwards.

Greymisty · 19/04/2018 23:56

How come truscum changed to teascum? I must of missed a good thread there...

HopScotchy · 19/04/2018 23:56

@antislut a socialist? Get a load of this: www.quora.com/What-is-socialist-feminism

NKFell · 19/04/2018 23:58

But it doesn’t matter if they wanted to go or not, they couldn’t so it’s a moot point. I’m pretty sure some women will have wanted to fight for their respective country though, I’m just as sure that lots of men didn’t want to. The rules were made by the menz though.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 19/04/2018 23:58

Fennel tea, I found, actively evil, though. Gave me sudden, spontaneous shits!

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 19/04/2018 23:58

Oh yeah because women really wanted to leave there children and join the war and die

I don't think anybody did. However that still doesn't change the fact women have been forbidden from fighting in wars by men.

Perhaps if men had allowed them to fight then more men could have stayed at home and taken care of the children? Wink

birdsdestiny · 19/04/2018 23:59

Nope I am sticking with my position that donkeys are bastards.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/04/2018 23:59

I'm a woman in my twenties. You sexist!!

Elizabeth H, is that you?

NKFell · 20/04/2018 00:00

I didn’t assume it was a man, in my experience women can be the worst advocates for other women.
