Some are suggesting it may be permanently. The silencing of women continues.

I think eventually we will see regulation and censorship of social media via government bodies. As Red says this might not be entirely positive.

It's just been reported today that Craigslist personal sections have been closed due to a new US ruling. From what I gather they chose to shut down rather than being specifically forced because the upshot of the new law is that Craigslist the company could be held personally responsible if unlawful transactions happen via their site and this can be proven. In this particular case it is sex trafficking that is cited.

I suspect something similar might apply at some point to Social Media as pretty much all of these fall under US jurisdiction.

Juells · 23/03/2018 17:27

You can create an account, abusing and mocking someone which IS targeted harassment, but because you don't directly message someone, that's fine.

So how come PrickNews was shut down?

TerfyTheCuntingTerf · 23/03/2018 17:35

for 'impersonating' Pink News, I think, Juells. Even though it was clearly satire.

There's got to be a difference between satirising a 'news' outlet and creating a mock account for an individual though, right? The former is satire, the latter bullying.

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2018 17:37

Falls under another twitter rule about abuse towards protected characteristics. Notably gender is listed but not sex.

I do think that social media should perhaps better reflect the law of the place the posting is made if regulation comes in. That would include in the UK protection of the characteristic of sex in theory.

The problem is that the law varies from country to country. This is why having an EU (and associate country) wide law does would work better in theory. But this would still create issues with regard to global interaction.

Complicated subject that needs a lot of work and thought put into it.

TBH I think the government lacks a lot of knowledge to be able to do it well, and will be led by the industry its trying to regulate, rather than being led by the interests of the public.

Mumsnut · 23/03/2018 17:43

My account was suspended even though I have never tweeted, re-tweeted, followed anyone or 'liked' anyone.

So was it purely on the basis that I had looked at at Dr Radfem's, Miranda Yardley's and JJ's tweets?

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2018 17:50

If it was, then why am I not banned?

If its an account that has never had any interaction, I'd say it was more likely it was deleted as a 'dormant' or 'inactive' account rather than because of anything you've actually done.

Mumsnut · 23/03/2018 17:52

I'd better get on and do something then ...

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2018 18:04

Just follow a few people. Should do the trick.

picklemepopcorn · 23/03/2018 18:36

I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet, but...

Can we report accounts and comments and get them taken down? It must work both ways?

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2018 19:02

Yes you can report. But don't expect it to necessarily be removed. Also be prepared for 100 more to appear where the last was.

But yes, if you feel its warranted, I think that you are within your rights to do so.

OlennasWimple · 23/03/2018 19:04

welcome to the vipers's nest @DrRadFem 😉

I presume you were involved in [[https://twitter.com/madigan_lily/status/976099900323778561 this Twitter thread started by everyone's favourite women's officer? (Guess the missing stuff is because of the account deletion...)

OlennasWimple · 23/03/2018 19:05

sorry, clicky link here

SecretsRSecrets · 23/03/2018 19:39

Angry Raging on behalf of DrRadfem, but also want to say welcomeFlowers. Very glad to have you here.

I agree with a pp. I know it's small comfort, but the more they get away with scoring off the opposing side by deleting/banning etc, the more they will get drunk on their power.

Also those with aggressive tendencies that enjoy attacking people will always look for victims. This means when they run out of those to attack on the opposing side, they will start nit-picking at their own.

I think I said so on Twitter but it's really quite the psychological study to read each of those replies then check the avi and bio of the TRA who wrote it. Grin They've just got no insight at all have they? (Or mirrors, it would seem)

AnotherQuoll · 23/03/2018 19:49

*On Lilliam's thread, I mean.

Idontdowindows · 23/03/2018 20:43

I was locked out of Twitter for saying men cannot become women. They'll let me back on if I delete it, but I refuse to delete the truth. I will not comply. I will not submit to their lies.

She's back let's see if we can get her even more followers than last time

DrDina · 24/03/2018 05:45

DrRadFem! Venice, I spread the word about Twitter. As you know I’m a social psychologist and use my real name and credentials to discuss what’s happening to women’s rights due to current Trends. I’ve had my job threatened twice and was in Twitter jail last month. Because I can speak with genuine authority about these issues, I won’t be surprised to be thrown off Twitter, too. We’re going to have to launch a Discrimination lawsuit, I believe.

DrDina · 24/03/2018 08:13

Venice - DrRadFem, I mentioned your situation on Twitter. I have 431 likes so far and a lot of angry people. We're with you!

AdultHumanFemale · 24/03/2018 08:18

Thank you, @Datun for drawing my attention to the tagging function -yay!

Venice, I have followed you since you stuck your head above the parapet on an intersectional feminist FB group I lurk on. I am so sorry that you are being targeted in this way, and grateful that you are out there telling the truth so publicly and uncompromisingly (and with such humour and flair -I was laughing out loud over the washing up bowl, watching your account of the email exchange with Heather Peto on YouTube the other week). Go you!

Juells · 24/03/2018 08:29

DrRadFem - I've asked to follow your new identity on twitter, and my account might look a bit flaky - it's very new, and I'm following only a few people, and I've made no tweets. Deleted my last account a few days ago as it had my RL name attached. So just in case you think my account is a spying sock-puppet...it isn't.

LangCleg · 24/03/2018 08:33

DrDina - welcome to Mumsnet! Good to see you here.

FairfaxAikman · 24/03/2018 08:58

@DrRadFem I've asked to follow your account. If you ask me TRAs are a load of scheiters.

Nosetothesun · 24/03/2018 10:12

Twitter's guidelines are evolving... there is a new policy coming in which will prevent new accounts being created if an individual has been permanently suspended.
Those who understand the guidelines are best able to use them (and also potentially shape them...) it is all is moving quickly.
