...please could I ask exactly what was your lightbulb moment? What did you hear or read that pushed you to our alpine slopes?

For me, it was the reporting of the transgender fellrunner that stabbed an athletics official.
The Guardian - a paper that I'd always trusted - originally reported the case but never mentioned that the 'woman' who attempted murder was transgender and had attacked the official because her status as a woman was being investigated.
It seems as if the truth doesn't matter when it comes to this issue.

CallYourDadYoureInACult · 07/02/2018 18:09

I am also getting increasingly frustrated when any 'liberal' or lefty podcast or news outlet seems to go out of their way to do the whole: 'you can be what you want to be...' nonsense without having thought about it.

I don't pretend to be very knowledgeable about this, but I have definitely hit peak trans, and I find it very hard to hear my natural allies swallow this horseshit and spout it back.

I was wondering though if anyone else is pretty isolated in their community about this? Most people in my social circle have no idea that this is happening. I find I do bang on about it a bit and most people look at me as if I am mad when I tell them about lady penises. Or GRA.
So I wonder how much of the discussion is actually trickling down to the wider population?

The discussion is vital though, as we will have batshit laws before we know its but I never thought that I would be relying on the Daily Mail to save us all from the lady penis.

SleightOfMind · 07/02/2018 18:09

Women’s prisons, changing rooms, DV refuges, girls’ loos in schools.

I’m all laid back and tolerant normally but this makes me spit feathers

Those despicable cunts. How dare they!

stitchglitched · 07/02/2018 18:14

I peaked quite a while ago but it was the reporting of Craig Hauxwell, a convicted sex offender on the run, that tipped me over the edge. When tying yourself up in knots to not misgender a rapist is prioritised over clear facts that would help capture a dangerous offender.

Alwaysinmyheart · 07/02/2018 18:15

I've found this fact sheet to set things out pretty clearly. Worth a read or giving to pp who don't get the issues.

PetraDelphiki · 07/02/2018 18:18

I think for me it was when the papers were full of a MTT being the first “woman” to fight on the front line, or pictures of the worlds first pregnant man..

Geronimoleapinglizards · 07/02/2018 18:39

I think for me it began with reading a thread in AIBU about female athletes and how with how the rules have been changing, female athletes can't ever win against someone intersex or trans with much higher testosterone levels. I really had to stop and think because suddenly it seemed so completely wrong. And I know intersex is completely different but it does tie in in athletics, say, with Caster Semenya being allowed to run against women.

I think what really made me peak was popping onto twitter and learning there was such a thing as a female penis and that I should suck someone's ladydick if I didn't accept that.

I peaked again reading about Danielle Muscato.

And then I keep peaking because it just keeps getting worse and worse. The stories involving Marie Dean and Andi Dier have particularly shocked me.

Yes. Lauren Jeska, I believe their name was.

CallYourDad

Yes. I tried to discuss it at a dinner party. Lead Balloon. I have better arguments now though

SvartePetter · 07/02/2018 18:46

The #nodebate statement.... I mean wtf??? Complemented by early transing of children and the mermaids. Horrific.

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 07/02/2018 19:01

The silly Mike Thread with his equally silly "friend" crying his eyes out because we won't call him a woman because he has a penis.

What the actual fuck is going on? Who are these self absorbed noisy little fickers who are demanding to not only have all male rights (of course) but to muscle in onto any perceived woman rights?

I do not want some hairy arsed 6 footer sharing a changing room with my beautiful teenage girls no matter what fricking shade of lipstick he is wearing. Oh dare he bring his hard on into a space where young girls are by using the lie "I am a woman".

Oh I've definitely just peaked! Show me where I sign to stop this madness.

DistaffSide · 07/02/2018 19:04

Peaks- being redefined as CIS, erasure of women as a meaningful biological category and the implications for categorisation, boundaries and evidence based decision making, policy etc (I'm a scientist, I value data). Finding out how many TIMs retain male genitalia, Danielle Moscato, women's sports, enforcement of gender stereotypes.

The sheer malice directed at women. From a teenager, the line that most stuck with me from The Female Eunuch, was that women don't understand how much men hate them.

(NAMALT obvs).

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 07/02/2018 19:08

We had one recently coming into work, education related but with adults. He was 6 foot plus, hands like shovels and towered above the other men in the building even without his heels. He wasn't fooling anyone but we were all polite and no one said anything. He got sacked a few months later but only because he was totally shit at the job.

If anyone seriously expected me to leave this guy alone with my daughters in a Top Shop changing room then they'd need their head rearranging. And there is no way I would not be bloody involving the real men in our lives to physically turf the freak out either. Bloody good excuse for the perverts to channel their needs. Outraged I am!

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 07/02/2018 19:11

Mine was really minor. A good friend used the term 'cis' in conversation. I didn't know what it meant. I asked. She told me, and said I was a cis woman.

I am not a fucking cis woman. I don't know anyone who is a cis woman.

I am a woman, damn straight. That's a biological fact. I was born with XX chromosomes. But am I feminine? No, not often. I might look it to a casual observer, because I've basically found that life in my little town is a fuckload easier if I look a certain way and dress a certain way. But I do extremely unfeminine things every single day. Sometimes by choice and sometimes because I cannot help it. Pretty sure that almost everyone on the planet is actually somewhere in 'non-binary', really. And if it describes everyone, it describes no one. Gender is a pile of bollocks. Figuratively.

Ironically, being called 'cis' made me realise how much it must piss off transgender people when they get misgendered...

This thing about men being able to wander in to female spaces and not be made to leave was the cherry on the cake.

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 07/02/2018 19:12

Oh yeah. Biological men ruining women's sports. Don't know how those bastards can convince themselves their 'victory' means anything.

Amethyst975 · 07/02/2018 19:13

I'm not 100% sure as I researched the movement quite intensively when I first realised the grip it had on our country.

It was probably the inevitable reliance on gender stereotypes, which I've always despised. Remove the tired old stereotypes from the equation and the whole ideology falls down like a house of cards.

Fekko · 07/02/2018 19:15

Some bloke in a beard and bad dress telling women in a refuge to suck his lady dick if they didn’t call him Beryl or something.

Reminds me of comic book guy in the Simpson’s for some reason.

Canklesofglitter · 07/02/2018 19:31

Lily fucking Madigan tipped me over the peak.

WTF does a boy in a dress possibly have to say about women's issues? You know like ACTUAL women's issues...maternity rights, VAT on sanitary products, finding out that the male heads of department I work with get paid more than me, the appalling lack of perinatal mental health support and breastfeeding support...where does it stop??

And then to start #nodebating people pointing out biological fact.

Fuck off Lily darling.

Has anyone else found that they're saying fuck an awful lot more now...?

terryleather · 07/02/2018 19:38

Cankles

I already eff and cee to Olympic standard but I agree that I'm doing it even more these days (if that's actually possible) and am glad I'm not alone!

rb67 · 07/02/2018 19:46
  1. the cancellation of next years Anarchist Book Fair.
  2. posting on a forum (closed unofficial Labour forum for Women's Officers) about the topic and someone replying "guess what we all start of female ...we all know your position now and I think the majority disagree. In the interest of the group it's probably time to let this go, it's damaging." (I stop posting as likely to get silly, that person posts again including that it is not the forum to discuss the issue - as far as I can tell nowhere is)
I have posted since and shared a couple of things today. I was not intimidated by the childish reply of this person but aware (I know myself well enough!!) that I could get sucked into debate that would do my head in too much and make me permanently pissed off. I also don't think the majority of the people on the forum agree with self id. I imagine a lot of people come here for some air!
DearSergio · 07/02/2018 19:49

Reading a tweet which claimed having an abortion was " cis privilege " was my defining moment. It still chills me

Fekko · 07/02/2018 19:51

So ovarian cancer is cis privilege too then? Well, whoop de doop.

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/02/2018 20:00

A thread on here quite a while ago. A woman was asking advice on starting her transgender daughter in Reception - should she get the teacher to talk to the class about it? The child in question apparently ‘knows her body is different to other little girls’ bodies’ but had been transitioned since age three.

A thread by the same poster was gently referenced in which the mother had been expressing extreme gender disappointment with her third boy - the child in question.

My heart just broke for this poor, tiny boy. His mother was peppering the thread with smiley emojis, over the moon that she had her longed-for ‘daughter’ plus a handy helping of admiration from people telling her she was so brave and accepting and such an amazing parent. Whilst she was enacting what can only be described as awful abuse on this innocent child. Goodness knows what his life will be.

Also, Jazz Jennings parades on national tv aged 6 to be declared transgender before the world. That is horrendous parenting. Yet somehow, bizarrely, applauded. I can’t understand how this is allowed to happen to such young and vulnerable children.

SomeDyke · 07/02/2018 20:01

The Cotton Ceiling -- at least in the old days no one expected the dykes to fancy the TIM, and doubly so if they still had a dick.

FGM is transphobic, apparently (well, the name supposedly). That's when I realised there is nothing that is sacred or beyond the pale as far as TRAs are concerned.

catscan · 07/02/2018 20:02

Like Geronimo it was Caster Semanya. Specifically the 800m at Rio in 2016, where the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals went to people who have excessive testosterone (and look like men), and Lynsey Sharp got destroyed in the press and on Twitter for looking pissed off about it.

The poor woman.

I know intersex isn't the same as trans, but it's still phenomenally unfair. I don't know how anyone can think it is.
