...please could I ask exactly what was your lightbulb moment? What did you hear or read that pushed you to our alpine slopes?

It was Ada Wells that peaked me properly. The whole cuntscum debacle.

Since then I have peaked a thousand times over. Whats funny is a transsexual family member did warn me that things were changing and it would get very bad, but I put her down as just paranoid and worrying too much. So she saw it waaay before I did but I guess she is more aware of the community than I was then.

Mumsnets very own peak trans thread, wonder if we will end up rivalling reddit, I think they are on about 5000 posts or something by now? All new peak trans stories too, and growing by the day.

TheDowagerCuntess · 08/02/2018 06:25

I have to say, I read that twitter post, and just think it's a bit cringe-y / laughable.

Which worryingly, means perhaps I haven't quite peaked just yet?

I mean, seriously. Womanhood is not 'off limits' to actual women, what with us having uteruses and being woman, and all. We will always trump men pretending to be women. And they just hate that.

Don't get me wrong. I thought I had peaked. And I do think there is no room for complacency. But at the same time, actual women will always be top dog, as we are what they wish they were.

I have to qualify this - I have no issue with transwomen going about their lives. As a left-leaning liberal my default position was (was!) full sympathy, and live and let live. It's just the bitter and twisted nutcases who've run my sympathy well out and ruined it for everyone.

WingsofNylon · 08/02/2018 06:35

I'm clearly dumb. What the hell does peaked mean in this context?

Bowednotbroken · 08/02/2018 06:47

The discussions around the Spartacus threads - but dozens of times since then!

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 06:48

Dowager I posted that on the thread about swimming pools and this poster from Canada wrote this;

Today 05:57 No1IronGirderRS

@Alwaysinmyheart That is indeed chilling! It's already happened where I'm at.

It keeps breaking my heart when I read posters on MN saying that Canada has embraced this madness. Honestly, I keep talking to people about this and no one had heard anything about it. It seems to be our incredibly liberal leaders who just went ahead, and the media seems to be keeping pretty mum. For the rest of us, we may be a ( mostly- ) liberal country, but we're not insane.

I hope the rest of you manage to halt this BS in its tracks, sadly I think we are already so far down the rabbit hole in Canada that it's going to be really difficult to backtrack (if that is even ever going to be an option).

amiw · 08/02/2018 06:54

Eyes opening as I read. Off to read more!

MsJuniper · 08/02/2018 07:13

Mine was/is more of a slow process but trans crimes being recorded and reported as women's crimes was a big one for me.

paddypants13 · 08/02/2018 08:30

I released my inner TERF quite a while ago but I'm quite proud that I've managed to "convert" a few people. This has been through Facebook mainly and liking and commenting on Radical Feminist pages.

There were so many things that made me hit peak trans. I think it might have been the cotton ceiling and female peni. I'm not a lesbian but even I can work out that lesbians don't like peni and I know for certain that a penis is a male sex organ.

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 08:31

There's such a lot of nasty, hate filled stuff on Twitter. Here's an example:

AlllWomenShortbreads · 08/02/2018 09:05

It was when I understood that the harmless and sometimes vulnerable male cross-dressing transsexuals that I knew 20 years ago (who seemed to me oddly stuck on gender stereotypes but didn’t hurt or intrude on anyone) have now had their sheeps’ clothing taken over by a load of sinister and sometimes violent misogynists.

Transwomen are transwomen. That’s fine and that’s enough. Anything more, anything else taken from women, is appropriation. Boundaries need to be re-asserted.

It was when I learnt that lesbians were actually getting shit for not shagging men ‘with girldicks’.

It was when I read the Jazz Jennings kids’ book, saw what it said about makes a girl or a woman. So misogynistic, trivialising and harmful for girls and boys.. Then I read about the not-reversible medicalising of ‘trans kids or teenagers’ (a concept I struggle with- young people change their minds, I know I did). Closing off their choices in future medically and surgically. Poor Jazz. Yet strangely many of the most vocal trans grownups apparently need bother with no such intrusive medication or surgery, they can just ‘identify as’, to enter women’s spaces. Hmm

It was because at work we have an (I feel) AGP colleague who uses our one ladies’ toilet. I have jumped out of my skin a few times now when a big person emerges from the stall behind me and I have to hide that feeling from them and everyone else. I feel I have lost my privacy because I don’t know who is in there next to me or if there is any fetishising of what goes on in the ladies’ cubicles. If I ask HR about it I would be in serious trouble. Its the scary well meaning unquestioning going along with everything and the aggressive silencing of any nonbelievers, like we all have to join in this cult.

Sad it’s all just ramming it home again that nobody in power gives a shit about women and girls’ safety, privacy, dignity or freedom of choice.

MaureenNervosa · 08/02/2018 09:12

Yes. Well said.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 08/02/2018 09:22

I've been talking to Canadian feminists on Twitter Always and some of the things they've told me are terrifying.

They also said that we've still got the chance to stop it from happening here and encouraged us to keep fighting.

iBiscuit · 08/02/2018 09:27

Has anyone spotted any "cissed off" t-shirts or badges?

Is there a sense that the truth of the reality of self ID is being covered up in Canada? It's an argument trotted out a lot - everything is just peachy in countries that already have self ID. I really can't imagine it is.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 08/02/2018 09:41

Ager

What are they saying?

IfNot · 08/02/2018 09:53

Caitlin Jenner and woman of the year..and then all the stuff in the media about kids transing- it seemed sinister to me and also sexist and homophobic.
Then the plans for self id (which I read on here). But I think I still wrote it off as a lot of academic feminists who do spend waaay too much time on Twitter and it wasn't really going to affect anyone in the real world..until TopShop, and then reading about new policy for councils and schools, and realising that the idea that biology isnt real is becoming part of the establishment.
Plus, I'm a die hard left winger, but I haven't liked the atmosphere around the Corbyn cult, and the mysoginistic way a lot of left wing men behave, which kind of seems tied up in the getting rid of women thing.
But what actually peaked me was the all women shortlists...and LIAM Madigan.
It's as though being pro "trans" is tied up with being lefty, the same as supporting gay marriage etc, but it's not the same thing at all. Gay people don't want to remove rights from anyone, just to live their lives on an equal footing.
I also thought a lot about the difference between "old school" transsexuals" and the current mouthy "transgender" lot.
See, I have known a few men who used to call themselves transvestites. They wore women's clothes on occasion, had a female alter ego, and were straight. The received wisdom has always been that transvestites are generally straight, whereas transsexuals are gay. (Which I think is true).
I have never had a problem with men dressing in women's stuff as a sexual fetish. I still don't- I had a boyfriend who liked to wear my knickersGrin..whatever floats your boat.
What I DO object to is straight men hijacking the plight of people with a mental disorder (dysmorphia) and forcing their fetish on unconsenting women and female children.
I think a lot of well meaning women have been utterly duped into accepting and welcoming scary perverts into their private spaces.
There is a HUGE difference between the nice transsexual lady (because you've always treated her as such) you work with, and the entitled "lesbian" transvestite pervs.
I feel really sorry for genuine transsexuals as they are being thrown under the bus along with women.

And any cunt that DARES to call me Cis in real life will get kneed on the lady balls.

Best get on with work!

paddypants13 · 08/02/2018 09:56

I've remembered what made me peak. It was worrying some loon could tell my gender non conforming dd she can become a man and give her poison, under the guise of medication, without my consent. If anyone starts that bollocks with my dd (or ds for that matter), she will be home educated and if necessary we will emigrate. I'm not fucking joking either. Angry Leave our children out of this!

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/02/2018 09:57

I've been gender critical for my entire life, I think, but started sitting up and paying attention to the current trends when I stumbled across Jordan Peterson on YouTube about a year ago. Couldn't believe what I was seeing, and have experienced that same feeling over and over again many times since.

Trans-age has gotten me particularly angry, as well as the transing of children.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 08/02/2018 09:59

I'm clearly dumb. What the hell does peaked mean in this context?

Peak trans is basically..the moment you realise its all a pile of misogynistic wank. Like, when you realise the emproer is naked. And you cannot go back to your previous way of thinking as you have now seen it all for what it is

www.reddit.com/r/GenderCritical/comments/7fdj38/peak_trans_vi_tell_your_story_here/

Here are loads of examples

Many of us accepted the claims of trans activists, wanting to be fair and non-exclusionary, until we really listened to what they were saying, and compared it to our own knowledge and experience. Can "woman" be just an identity, divorced from biology? Can penises be female? Should girls who don't like dolls be treated with double mastectomies and lifelong hormones?
What is peak trans? That's when you said "enough!"

doesthatmakesense · 08/02/2018 10:16

I have all the fucking peaks. Thank you to the determined and articulate posters on here who have persisted with clarity, courage and really top-class swearing.

I still cannot understand how the actual fuck have TRAs managed to manipulate legislation so quickly. Lobbying usually takes time and money, or overwhelming personal influence but it feels rather more like mass hypnosis at the moment. They having been exceptionally effective at rewriting the rules in their own favour.

The more I read the more frightened I am for my girls.

The threats of violence and rape to terfs on twitter and fb for not pretending ladydicks/ladybrains exist.

The term 'literal violence' and the fact that every single word or term relating to women is 'triggering'. If you are that fucking sensistive you need your mental health looked at.

Talking about it all with DP who works with a lot of 16-25 yo and finding out how little they care about the issue or that they simply don't realise the impact it could have. Trans is trendy.

We are already at the point where public discussion on the subject can have massive repercussions. If I posted anything on FB I could be sacked for hate speech.
Would I not be able to take my new baby to work and talk about childbirth as it isn't trans inclusive?

Agerbilatemycardigan · 08/02/2018 12:13

They sent me several news stories. I'll see if I can find them. It appears that by the time most people were aware of the bill, it was already too late to stop it.

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 12:16

Oh God, this really is like The Handmaid's Tale now, isn't it?? Shock
