Apologies in advance as this is Big Brother related. So watched I clip of the above and was wondering about people's views. As a R&B fan I know that Genuwine is a heterosexual male with, previously married and several children. He goes on BB assuming for the money and has advanced on by trans woman India Willoughby then makes advances towards him and he rejects "her" . She then storms off offended due to this and it is implied he is transphobic as 1. he doesn't want to kiss her and 2. Doesn't recognise her as female. Now I have lots of views about this but found it interesting that apparently this straight male Genuwine has no right to choose of state he is not sexually interested in someone who essentially was a male and is likely to be torn down as homophobic. Ironic given the current topics of sexual harassment that women are rightfully raising. Not sure what I'm asking really just thought it was interesting

This may have already been said, as I've missed about 70 posts. But some guy last night on CBB (first and last time I've watched it so I've no idea of his name, think he was a footballer) said that a trans person struggles to decide and accept their gender all their life, so why is it transphobic for anyone else to struggle with it too. Well something along those lines, he really put it well.

"I've always had a sneaking admiration for her because of this. As a politician she was routinely mocked and ridiculed for her looks and virginity. I don't share her politics but remember feeling incensed on her behalf that the media did this."

Same. I think she's Wrong About Everything politically but that doesn't make the form the criticism of her usually took any less obviously sexist or diminish the fact that if must have taken some backbone to brush it off the way she appears to have done. Which is why I think IW isn't even trying to kick off with her, obvious that her backing down apologetically isn't going to happen.

AnotherQuoll · 10/01/2018 20:29

It's doing my head in, gaslighting style, that India used his protected species "Trans woman" status and power dynamics to sexually harass Ginuwine in front of millions of viewers and get away with it. No warning or penalty from Big Brother, no criticism, not even acknowledgement that he did it.

[His behaviour was so typically male, I honestly expected him to spit out "uptight bitch!" as he stormed off angrily when Ginuwine escaped his grip.]

PositivelyPERF · 10/01/2018 20:32

I love Ann. I hate many of her views, but she has the courage of her conviction. I don't even think it's arrogant about it, just steadfast. She reminds me of some of the older patients I would look after.

stitchglitched · 10/01/2018 20:38

It's interesting that I'm not seeing much defence of IW on social media, even from sources that are usually very pro-trans. I think lots of people want to be 'right on' and support the 'transwomen are women' mantra in the abstract but when they actually see it action, a clearly male individual throwing a strop because a heterosexual male doesn't want to sleep with them, it wakes them up a bit. At least I hope this is happening.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/01/2018 20:43

Andrew's explanation of why he wanted to try drag was terrific. And I wasn't remotely surprised when IW shouted it down.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/01/2018 20:45

I've long suspected that when most people see "trans woman" they're picturing a Thai ladyboy, or Jazz Jennings - gay, not physically aggressive young men who don't come across as being an immediate threat to women. When woman say they'd be fine with trans women in shared female spaces I think that's who most of them are imagining having to share those spaces with. Being expected to share changing rooms and shelters and prison cells with people who've fathered children and whose body language and way of speaking comes across as 100% overbearing entitled male is not what they thought they were signing up for, and I don't think many of them realized that that's what they were going to get.

PositivelyPERF · 10/01/2018 20:46

I'm waiting for the TRAs and their handmaidens to claim that IW isn't a 'real' trans woman, but a mentally ill person who doesn't represent the 'real' gentle, feminine transwomen. Hmm

terfing · 10/01/2018 20:52

Little Owen Jones tweeted a few pro-trans things relating to India when the show first started, but even he has stopped!

stitchglitched · 10/01/2018 20:53

I saw some people make that claim about Kellie Maloney after their CBB, that they weren't 'genuine' trans. Which is odd since according to current trans ideology anyone is whatever they say they are.

stitchglitched · 10/01/2018 20:54

Haha would be funny if IW managed to peak-trans Owen Jones.

PositivelyPERF · 10/01/2018 20:57

Grin Do you think Little Owen Jones is watching BB going OMG I was wrong!

AngryAttackKittens · 10/01/2018 21:05

Has Owen ever admitted he was wrong about anything before? Seems like it would be terribly painful for him and would probably involve a lot of false starts and the kind of faces people normally only make when severely constipated.

UpABitLate · 10/01/2018 21:08

I have succumbed.

Just read the list of who the slebs are that don't recognise and bang in there, let's see what's going on!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/01/2018 21:11

When IW watches it, I bet the first thing to trigger them will be the XX chromosomes in the intro.

UpABitLate · 10/01/2018 21:16

anne's game isn't she!

look at the women bonding, nice. men always paint women as being super competitive / bitchy / hateful together but in general we get on pretty well so that's another one where the story told doesn't match the reality

UpABitLate · 10/01/2018 21:17

oh shut up about wolf whistling! bloody hell

right will stop with the running commentary!

DeleteOrDecay · 10/01/2018 21:56

It's not just men who say women are bitchy etc. I've heard plenty of women bang on about how they prefer hanging around with men because women are soooo bitchy and awful to be around.

pisacake · 11/01/2018 03:29

"I've long suspected that when most people see "trans woman" they're picturing a Thai ladyboy, or Jazz Jennings - gay, not physically aggressive young men who don't come across as being an immediate threat to women. "

But Thai ladyboys are notorious for robbing male punters though.

Doesn't happen with the female prostitutes.

"Yes and you never hear of a transwoman with a name like Jane or Anne. It's always the 'trendy' names: 'India' 'Paris' etc. That are more associated with younger generations."

There's one called Jane Fae. He's a pro-porn campaigner, and a 'lesbian', having separated from his wife some time after his transition. Guardian 'feminism' correspondent. Balding. 6'3".

There's also Anne Lawrence, self-identified autogynephile mtf

DeleteOrDecay · 11/01/2018 05:53

There's my theory out the window then!

AngryAttackKittens · 11/01/2018 06:44

Jane Fae, the person so offputting that when Julie Bindel was on a panel with him she kept edging closer to Milo the professional troll.

(He also brought his knitting, which was one of the odder attempts at performing femininity I've seen in a while.)

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/01/2018 07:03

Oh god Jane fae

Turns up in her curtains and nail polish and dainty gestures and pretty much immediately dived into her real, domineering almost aggressive state.

Like a bloke. Who can't take being wrong

Rude

Talks over you

So obvious yet people fall over themselves to side with him.

All Julie's points get ignored.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/01/2018 07:39

There was another interview with Bindel and Fae where every time he got annoyed and wanted her to shut up he kept touching her and the body language was so classically man trying to intimidate women that it was just laughable.

Didn't work obviously, Bindel is not as easily silenced as that, but I dunno how anyone watches that and doesn't have the "wait, this is a man trying to bully a woman into submission" lightbulb go off.

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 11/01/2018 07:49

It is true that India is not subjected to the 'daily mail sidebar of shame' type of scrutiny that most celebrity females are subjected to

TBH I think that'll annoy India too - after all, she's had her breasts on full display more than once, whereas women just need to show a hint of side-boob, or a dramatic cleavage to get an article.

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 11/01/2018 07:50

Jane Fae, the person so offputting that when Julie Bindel was on a panel with him she kept edging closer to Milo the professional troll

I've said it before, but when you're on a panel with Milo, and you look ruder and less engaged than he does, then you should probably do some self-reflection.
