Apologies in advance as this is Big Brother related. So watched I clip of the above and was wondering about people's views. As a R&B fan I know that Genuwine is a heterosexual male with, previously married and several children. He goes on BB assuming for the money and has advanced on by trans woman India Willoughby then makes advances towards him and he rejects "her" . She then storms off offended due to this and it is implied he is transphobic as 1. he doesn't want to kiss her and 2. Doesn't recognise her as female. Now I have lots of views about this but found it interesting that apparently this straight male Genuwine has no right to choose of state he is not sexually interested in someone who essentially was a male and is likely to be torn down as homophobic. Ironic given the current topics of sexual harassment that women are rightfully raising. Not sure what I'm asking really just thought it was interesting

When did feminism as a word become completely detached from anything to do with actual women??

In the new exciting world of redefined feminism, it's about biological women shutting up and pursuing equal rights for absolutely everybody else, while centering men, and never actually mentioning themselves ever because that's just selfish and horrible. Basically the new redefined feminism recasts anyone with a vagina as everyone else's mummy, because it's feminism as re organised by men.

I am not a bloody feminist, I'm a supporter of women's rights.

I quite like that Courtney Act video on feminism. I'll even forgive the use of "cis" on this occasion

80sQueen · 14/01/2018 13:08

Actually the biggest critics of White Feminism are Black feminists and Black women me included

I am a supporter of women's rights too, not sure how long we will be able to be this until it's illegal though

Sorry, I could have been clearer... I have no issue (and indeed no right to have an issue!) with black women having an opinion on the concept of white feminism.
What I meant up there ^ is that the large majority of time when I see "white feminist" used as an insult, it is being used by a white male. Often one in a dress.

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 09:23

IW is going to be on The Wright Stuff shortly.

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 09:28

On at 10.30 according to the CBB thread

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 09:33

Oh that's a shame, I was hoping they'd give her the whole show to help peak trans the nation.

Thehairthebod · 15/01/2018 09:36

What, so IW is not going to be on the whole show. So she won't be taking about anything else accept for INDIA?

FFS.

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 09:41

Apparently they are not taking phone calls either.

What a farce. Why is IW getting such special treatment?

picklemepopcorn · 15/01/2018 10:34

Watching it now. Interesting. They are asking some of the questions.

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 10:38

IW comes across as so fake and the constant hand gestures are extremely irritating.

picklemepopcorn · 15/01/2018 10:38

They are tackling some of the difficult issues. India is an exception to the problems.

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 10:39

India agrees with third spaces. India has just gone up in my opinion Grin (only a little bit!)

picklemepopcorn · 15/01/2018 10:40

That doesn't bother me. The pose at the start when introduced was very awkward looking.

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 10:40

I'm not buying it. It's easy to come across well when you've been coached. The house is where she showed her true colours.

picklemepopcorn · 15/01/2018 10:41

India has been very fair in the past. She wasn't the problem. I was surprised to hear how badly she behaved on CBB. I suppose it was a very stressful situation, constructed to highlight conflict.

LangCleg · 15/01/2018 10:41

India wants to come across as firmly holding the truscum/transsexual position - surgical transition required to access women's spaces; anti-transtrenders, etc. But India is just SO narcissistic it's not coming across well. Still, a lot better than the Big Brother behaviour.

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 10:43

Yy India has come across well in the past, the CBB behaviour was unexpected and much more what you'd associate with the "transtrenders" (India's word).

Datun · 15/01/2018 10:58

India tried to get Jenni Murray fired for suggesting there is any difference between India and a natal woman.

I'm sure she does believe in a third space for trans people. As long as that doesn't include her because she's a woman.

This desperation to make a distinction between her ('truscum') and transgender/transvestites is understandable. But no one is allowed to make a similar distinction between her (a born male) and women.

She is delivering exactly the same sense of entitlement and narcissism towards women that she accuses transvestites of.

Without a shred of self awareness of her own hypocrisy.

DeleteOrDecay · 15/01/2018 11:06

She is delivering exactly the same sense of entitlement and narcissism towards women that she accuses transvestites of.

Yep. IW is deluded.

PricklyBall · 15/01/2018 22:52

Maybe the moment has passed now, but I thought this article by Jeni Harvey was excellent.

DeleteOrDecay · 16/01/2018 02:09

That's a great post. I especially liked this bit:

"There is no respect inherent in dishonesty and — more importantly — absolutely nothing at all wrong with the truth: that trans women are trans women; distinct from natal women by virtue of their biology, but entitled to live as they wish, worthy of the same rights, respect, and representation as anyone, simply by virtue of being human beings. There is nothing wrong with embracing the reality of being trans."

Datun · 16/01/2018 08:03

PricklyBall

That article is brilliant. Jeni Harvey has such a distinctive way of writing, she is a pleasure to read.

And she absolutely nailed it in that one.

picklemepopcorn · 16/01/2018 08:38

How do I best watch the old CBB episodes? Is there a summary/compilation/omnibus programme, or do I need to just start at the beginning and sit through them all? I'm after an archer's omnibus version! GrinArchers
