Do you think some of the driver for "a woman is anyone who says they are a woman" is to do with bad science teaching in the US?

Just reading this thread on Reddit and loads of the posts are very scientifically naive. I can't decide if posters are being disingenuous or are just very uneducated about basic science.
It got me wondering whether the American thing of teaching creationism as equally valid a theory as evolution has generally undermined science and critical thinking.

so YOUR fear of men is legitimate, but women's fear of men is self-victimisation? So you don't pass for male in the men's toilet, but women immediately read you as male?

^^This.

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 16:05

Why do they keep thinking it though? What's their gain?

I could be wrong but perhaps it's slight peer pressure and, on social media at least, fear of being branded a "TERF" or saying anything which might anger the TRAs. They've seen how aggressively anyone who says anything the slightest bit "wrong" in their eyes is hounded and want to ensure they're not on the wrong side of that. I'm only speculating of course as I too struggle to fully comprehend why so many now toe the line on this.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 16:05

Why must we be forced to collude in a delusion?

You guys always say you have nothing against trans people but :/

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 16:07

My words about women's victimisation was a very valid point about the hypocrisy of TERF's.

With that victim blaming comment, your complete refusal to acknowledge the rational fear of male violence and your most recent sexist and ageist comments you've shown up a lot about yourself.

Datun · 07/04/2017 16:07

I do pass for the men's toilet, but they still see me as a little bitch

Do you mean they see you as an effeminate man? Or they think you are an effeminate gay man?

GahBuggerit · 07/04/2017 16:08

Fuck me i actually don't know where to begin answering that rambling reply.

Interesting though that you are slagging women off for being fearful of men in their spaces (toilets for arguments sake), while saying you are....er....Fearful of going into men's toilets.

Not a housewife btw, or menopausal, were the supposed to be insults or something? [Confused]

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:09

Don't you all know? Only trans people are ever at risk of anything ever. they're the only group to deal with male violence (even the males and those THAT WANT TO BE MEN) MH, suicide, feeling bad about their body. It's only trans people.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 07/04/2017 16:09

You guys always say you have nothing against trans people but :/

u ok hun

Nellooo · 07/04/2017 16:09

SSR

You're like an angry cat in a big right now.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 16:10

so YOUR fear of men is legitimate,

Eh? But your logic says I'm still a female regardless, I'm not actually a man right? Contrary to popular belief I don't actually know male privilege very well and my 'fear' (which you've dramatised) is due to being raised female, just like you? I've never said trans women have to be allowed in any bathroom they demand. I have said that people like you need to get a grip and stop mindlessly shit talking and debating about how horrible these potential predators are, and start campaigning for separate restrooms. Because that can actually happen if you stopped being so fucking childish.

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:10

Actually, if male violence isn't about socialisation (because there's no such thing, we either have woman or man brains) are you saying SRS that you identify as violent? (because you have a man brain)

Datun · 07/04/2017 16:10

GahBuggerit

God knows. But I've certainly taken on board the fact that all I have to do is watch my kid do karate to alleviate all my menopausal symptoms. Result!

< phones up GMC immediately>

UncontrolledImmigrant · 07/04/2017 16:11

it is curious why this sensitive being is so quick to resort to what they imagine are gendered slurs and insults

Hmm
FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:12

and start campaigning for separate restroom

OH RIGHT. That's our job too. Like MRAs want us to work for them. Right. How will I ever have the time with all the sandwiches I'm making.

CharlieSierra · 07/04/2017 16:12

Your comment doesn't even make sense, 'believing that it is possible to actually be the opposite sex'

They can dress or live however they want

Which one is it?

It's been clear since this post that SSR doesn't understand the difference between sex and gender or is just being disingenuous.
Since then they have engaged in specious arguments, gaslighting, abusive sexist and disablist language and ad hominem attacks. I don't actually understand why they are still free to post, based on some of what's gone on around here lately.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/04/2017 16:12

"They've seen how aggressively anyone who says anything the slightest bit "wrong" in their eyes is hounded and want to ensure they're not on the wrong side of that."

I agree. Transphobic is the new racist. They;'re so afraid of being called that, even if the accusation has no foundations. Of course, those who were more scared of being called racists than being called shit at their job, caused the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal Sad. Which is why it's important that people should not fear being called transphobic. Or TERF. Or any other unfounded allegation.

So I'm less convinced by 'Stockholm', and more inclined to sheer fucking cravenness.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 16:13

With that victim blaming comment, your complete refusal to acknowledge the rational fear of male violence and your most recent sexist and ageist comments you've shown up a lot about yourself.

I'm a trans man so I've never experienced any discrimination for appearing female right haha! I obviously hate women and don't understand any everyday fears they have!

GahBuggerit · 07/04/2017 16:13

I don't understand, we have nothing to fear from men so why not use their toilets?

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:14

Well, I'm sure SRS can eventually think their way out of the menopause. Hmm

Weird though as this is a parenting site, I'd say the majority of us are still in the "breeding" years. Not that's particularly relevant as of course we will all hopefully eventually knock on wood reach menopause and not take on personality transplants.

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:15

You're not very good at this SRS.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 16:15

OH RIGHT. That's our job too. Like MRAs want us to work for them. Right. How will I ever have the time with all the sandwiches I'm making.

If your whole argument is that trans women should stop invading your space then yes, that is your job. That's the goal, no?

Or are you free to abuse trans people while we fix everything, because our voices are heard right!

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 16:15

I'm a trans man so I've never experienced any discrimination for appearing female right haha! I obviously hate women and don't understand any everyday fears they have!

You're not showing you do very well with your belittling and victim blaming comments. But given this sarcastic response you also then presumably agree that "trans women" have been raised with male privilege and don't understand what it's like to have grown up female.

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 16:16

They;'re so afraid of being called that, even if the accusation has no foundations.

I concur. And to be honest I can't really say "they" as beyond here and to a couple of my best friends, I don't really oppose it much myself...

Datun · 07/04/2017 16:16

SSR24479

and start campaigning for separate restrooms.

We already have separate restrooms.

And yes, obviously the ideal solution for men and women would be to have a separate bathroom that trans-people can use whilst retaining the sex segregated ones.

It's such a simple and effective solution, that one can't help wondering why it's not just a gimme.

The reason is transactivists are very, very powerful. They have already got miles further than women managed to get in hundreds of years. And they don't WANT it.

It's also not something that can happen quickly because it's cost prohibitive.

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:18

If your whole argument is that trans women should stop invading your space then yes, that is your job. That's the goal, no?

If I want to use the disabled toilet with my baby I will be told that I need to ask for a parent and toddler toilet, not take the disable person's long fought for toilet. My response to that would not be, "Suck it disabled guy you want me out ask for a parent and baby bathroom".

You already have a toilet. The women's. If you want something else you need to ask for it. Not from feminists who traditionally have very little power. It's a pointless exercise, to be honest.
