Do you think some of the driver for "a woman is anyone who says they are a woman" is to do with bad science teaching in the US?

Just reading this thread on Reddit and loads of the posts are very scientifically naive. I can't decide if posters are being disingenuous or are just very uneducated about basic science.
It got me wondering whether the American thing of teaching creationism as equally valid a theory as evolution has generally undermined science and critical thinking.

Because it's fucking stonewall

Well perhaps you had better take it up with them. Instead of being surprised when people listen to the most famous advocating group for LGBT rights.

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 15:27

Because it's fucking stonewall

Please start your campaign for separate trans toilets then. Though you earlier on in this thread called women "weak and pathetic" for fearing male violence if women's spaces weren't protected so I doubt you will.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/04/2017 15:27

SSR24479 please read back you posts. Can you see that you seem quite incoherent? Unable to argue with facts?

Actually, I'd quite like to go back to the subject of this thread. Amusing as the derail has been, it remains a derail.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:28

Chromosomes determine biology which determine genitals. It's not three separate things.

We've already established that people can be born with mismatching chromosomes, genitals and biology.

PoochSmooch · 07/04/2017 15:28

SSR, lovey, I'm not sure this is doing you any good. You seem very, very wound up by this. Maybe time to stop? Because really, your posts are having the opposite effect from what I think you want them to have. The topic is about whether poor scientific education leads to exactly the kind of misunderstandings and misrepresentations that you're producing here. It's coming over like a practical demonstration and I can't imagine that's what you want to achieve...?

venusinscorpio · 07/04/2017 15:28

All trans lobbying in this country is focussed on that goal. That there should be no spaces for biological women. That all current exemptions should be removed.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:29

Keyword in that post: implied. As in, anti trans protesters using 'women are weaker' as an argument against trans women being allowed in restrooms. Good try though.

Datun · 07/04/2017 15:30

SSR24479

If you don't want to encroach on the spaces of the opposite sex, if you don't agree with transwomen encroaching on the spaces of women, if you agree wholeheartedly that women's rights should not be accrued to trans-women, then why are you arguing with a bunch of feminists?

Why don't you start a petition, we'll sign it.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:30

I've seen countless trans activists demanding anyone who identifies as a woman be given access to any women's spaces. Even a trans woman who recently opposed this was bombarded with criticism from them.

Don't be surprised when the only people who are heard are the obnoxious extremists.

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 15:31

Not really. You suggested it'd be "weak and pathetic" if women are unable to "defend themselves" against violence. Presumably then you feel women who have been victims of violence are this. Deeply unpleasant.

jellyfrizz · 07/04/2017 15:31

How do you define a trans person SSR?

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:31

Being condescending is rude mister

IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 15:32

Also there's nothing "anti trans" about wanting to protect women's spaces.

Datun · 07/04/2017 15:32

PoochSmooch

I agree with that.

What? Stop trying so hard

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 15:33

I knew I was a woman because I had a vagina.

Datun · 07/04/2017 15:34

SSR24479

What do you want to gain from this? What is your actual issue?

If you're wondering why women and feminists are objecting, I think we've told you why.

PoochSmooch · 07/04/2017 15:34

Why the buggery would I be a mister?

I'm on a feminist board. I'm a woman.

You are hurting your case, is what I'm telling you. Personally, I'm cool with that, as I disagree with most of what you've posted. Have at it, then

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 15:35

When I was a teenager vagina was a life sentence, we didn't have a get out clause

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:36

If you're wondering why women and feminists are objecting, I think we've told you why.

Because rapists exist? But you're focusing on bathrooms right now, whereas there's a lot of talk about the injustice that comes after a rape, but extremely limited action has been taken

Datun · 07/04/2017 15:37

To be fair SSR, you did say women victimise themselves . That's the very definition of victim blaming.

but now feminists use the biological inequality to victimise themselves.

Dervel · 07/04/2017 15:37

Why are women/feminists so often in the crosshairs of trans advocates, when the biggest threat to trans people is male violence?

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 15:37

*Why the buggery would I be a mister?

I'm on a feminist board. I'm a woman. *

Did your feelings get hurt because I called you the wrong thing? Tragic

OlennasWimple · 07/04/2017 15:38

PoochSmooth - don't you realise you've been mis-gendered? This is literal violence against you!

Wink
IAmAmy · 07/04/2017 15:38

Yes quite Datun. The suggestion that this is "victimising ourselves" is abhorrent, in my opinion.
