Taylor Swift vs Nicki Minaj

Apologies if already discussed. I couldn't see a thread.

What are your thoughts on this debacle? I have always been a Taylor fan, but since reading limited newspaper articles went over to Minaj's side. But then I watched the bloody Anaconda video and I just thought ffs, wtaf?!

I've no idea about anything specific relating to the both of them.

However, from the limited amount I have seen and heard, I'd be banning Nicki Minaj from the house for being a foul mouthed, drugs glorifying, booty shaking whore....

Whilst welcoming Taylor in with open arms for being a strong ish female role model who mostly keeps her clothes on.

Am I missing something?

I did think twice about it Bertie. But that's what she's trying to channel. That's what it is (imo).

I x posted with OP and have only just read the link. I agree Taylor misread, misunderstood or misinterpreted Minaj's meaning and her reply was inappropriate and clunky.

However I am not going to get excited about who wins "most outrageously sexy man toy and insult to feminism 2015" between Minaj, Miley and whoever the hell else they feel belongs in that particularly unsavoury category.

Dancing, it's interesting bc I love Taylor and am a feminist and also against racism (rolls eyes, as everybody should be!). I immediately thought 'oh Taylor, you have just lost a fan!' But then I watched the Anaconda video and realised this is a ridiculous conversation!

I think Minaj has a point. I don't particularly like her music but I think she does some "interesting" stuff and in a mostly male dominated field.

I'm glad Anaconda isn't winning any prizes but unfortunately I doubt it's because the industry has decided to take a stand against arse-out, writhing poor role models.

It makes me want to weep. I can't show my year four class anything on YouTube without hip hop videos popping up on the front page with virtually naked skinny minnies shaking their arses in blokes faces for money.

So what do the women do? Do they take a stand? No, in their own videos (with presumably creative control) they compete to get even more of their arses out and dry hump a fucking snake like its their last chance to get fed this side of 2019.

It's fucking depressing.

The anaconda video sucks and Nicki minaj is a bit of a moron.

She did the classic backtrack and tried to claim it wasn't a dig when she got caught out.

Same as Kim kardashian did after she weighed in on it

Plus I checked Nicki minajs twitter today (i already follow taylor) and she had retweeted several tweets insulting Taylor which lacks all class.

But then, from my username you can already tell I am a Taylor fan :D:D:D

I don't know why TS assumed NM meant her, but I was just baffled that NM though that video deserved an award. What about that deserves an award? I actually find it really horrible tbh - I have only seen it because it was on in the gym and I was on the elliptical thinking "what horror is this?" Lucky I didn't fall off!! If it had been a treadmill, I might have done.

PS this "different kind of artist" - that video is just horrendous, I don't think it matters at all who put it out, and I am genuinely mystified that NM thinks it "impacts culture". How so?? (not suggesting any or many pop videos impact culture).

No, I'm sorry. It looks like a race to the lowest common denominator from where I'm standing, plus a massive wasted opportunity to achieve something by women which doesn't simply join in with the accepted view of women in music as men's toys.
