"When will your husband be coming in to look at the car?"

It is some time since I had come across such a sexist comment and was at something of a loss to work out how to respond. I left, but was that enough - will he understand why his comment was offensive? Should I have explained to him?

This thread is making me feel gloomy. Every time I go to the garage I feel like I'm contributing to this sort of attitude, because although it's my car (a hot hatch no less), when it goes in for a service or whatever, I have to say "if you have any problems, please call DH on this number". This is primarily because I work in a lab and can't answer the phone at the drop of a hat. DH, on the other hand, works in an office and can easily deal with phone enquiries. It hardly helps the "incapable woman" image though :(
