Spoiler The Potter Thread for those who have finished the book

This is for everyone who knows what has happened and wants to chat about what will come next

Spoilers Space

I think that a lot of the next one will be in Grimauld place.

Sirius' brother is the person who stole the Locket (idea pinched from a clever mate of mine)

Dumbledore ordered Sirius to 'do the deed' and Sirius is a triple agent

I still think Percy Weasly will turn out to be a 'good egg'

Another good idea stolen from someone else is that part of Vodermorts soul is held in Harry's scar!!!! Damn clever that I thought!!!

Spoiler for people who read from the bottom, so to speak!

assumedname, did you read the idea on the link below? there is a theory that snape and dumbledor planned the whole killing for some reason and dumbledor froze harry so that he couldn't ruin it but would be a witness of what had happened so that after he was 'killed', he could then go and tell everyone about what had happened.

tortoiseshell · 31/07/2005 17:12

I wonder if it was Snape's ultimate 'proof' that he was a baddy when in fact he would be the one to enable the final downfall of Voldemort. Don't think the potion Dumbledore drank was the living death one - it was green, but the living death potion was pink.

alexsmum · 31/07/2005 17:18

i have to dismiss the idea of harry's scar being a horcrux. dumbledore said to harry that you don't put a piece of your soul into something that can think and act for itself- that vlodemort had taken a big risk making nagini a horcrux and she is just a snake.

charleepeters · 31/07/2005 18:12

But to think that he took a risk putting his soul in the snake, doesnt mean he wouldnt take the risk doing it to Harry?

wheresmyfroggy · 31/07/2005 19:37

Have only seen the first three films and only read the last book, does Sirius figure much inbetween? cos if he doesn't i think it a waste of gary oldman for such a part, think he would have been better as snape

not so sure about the whole dumbledore/snape conspiracy, but do think dumbledore was ready to die and knew it would happen soon, but his biggest worry before this happened was to show harry his destiny and prepare him for it so as soon as he had done this he took the risk of going with Harry to the cave knowing it might well be his downfall

spursmum · 31/07/2005 19:43

Lets not forget that he didn't know all of the prophecy (marking one as his equal, one to live one must die etc). Voldemort didn't know that he could have transferred some of his powers to Harry when he tried to kill him.

assumedname · 01/08/2005 00:59

juicychops - read link now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Oliviab · 01/08/2005 08:12

We don't know anything about Harry's parents' parents do we? Tom Riddle was at school the same time as Hagrid - could he be Harry's grandad? It's all getting a bit Star Wars, I'm sure Dumbledore will come back a la Obiwan Kenobe especially with all his Phoenix connections.

triceratops · 01/08/2005 08:24

I was so glad that Dumbledore and Snape between them saved Malfoy from being really bad. I want him to be redeemed, he is an abused child with unpleasant parents who has been to a good school and had good role models. I think he is going to save Harry in the end.

I still think Snape is a good guy and that he and Dumbledore planned his own death. I can't believe that I have to wait two years until I find out

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 08:28

JKR has said that we shouldn't look for a family link between Tom Riddle and harry. She said that people had been watching too much star wars!

alexsmum · 01/08/2005 10:31

think gary oldman was wrong for sirius but he would have been even worse as snape! i think alan rickman was pretty much perfect casting.

tortoiseshell · 01/08/2005 18:13

quite a lot of things here

A few things I remember thinking - in book 3 Dumbledore says that Harry has indebted Peter Pettigrew to him, I think this may be important.

From the link - what Snape sees (i.e. his worst fear) and the shape of his Patronus are important.

The fact that Harry has Lily's eyes are important and also the fact that her wand was good for charms

Harry's parents' profession is important

spursmum · 01/08/2005 18:31

ooooh David Tennant is going to be in the 4th film!! yum!!(sorry but I'm shallow!!)

Tyakit · 01/08/2005 19:16

Harry's parents were Aurors weren't they?? I agree Snape's patronus and boggart are going to be either highly important to the plot or provide some humour in the next book. What if Snape's boggart (i.e greatest fear) is James Potter or Sirius ooh or Voldy?

Hmmn so many things to ponder - how will I last till the next one.

jabberwocky · 01/08/2005 23:49

Have just skimmed thread as I only finished the book last night and didn't want to join in until then.

So, I, too, am wondering about a Snape/Dumbledore conspiracy although when JK kills someone off they have always stayed dead. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part.

Am also thinking that with 4 horcruxes left and Harry saying he will not return to Hogwarts even if it remain open she has neatly extended the series by 4 possible books instead of 1 (hope, hope)

Oliviab · 02/08/2005 11:47

"Oooooooooo David Tennant" indeed! You know how some women kind of make that growly sound when they see Alan Rickman on tv? Do you think David Tennant gets a big sighing noise all around the country?

How about if Snape's boggart is Harry?

GeorginaA · 03/08/2005 21:39

.
Can I join too, can I can I?! Finished just now and read the thread

Intrigued by the Harry is a Horcrux argument... wasn't convinced, but then I thought - what if he wasn't the target for being the Horcrux but became one as the spell went horribly wrong and Voldemort hasn't realised?

I so want Snape to be good - love all the theories which means that he still would be!

Someone crack a whip and get that JKR writing faster

Aragon · 03/08/2005 21:44

I think JKR is planning to start writing early next year. I heard (or read) an interview with her where she said that after the birth of her son she decided to concentrate on him for a good 12 months before starting to write again - and of course she had a baby in February so I suspect she'll do the same.

Can hardly wait for the next one though.

jabberwocky · 04/08/2005 01:42

I have actually started reading it again as I think i whipped through so fast the first time i may have missed some critical points. Can't wait until ds is old enough to read them!

Radida · 04/08/2005 12:17

Finally someone out these who thinks that Daniel Radcliffe is just not the right casting for Harry Potter, he's too healthy looking, and not skinny and intense enough, although I think that the Ron and Hermione actors are just right!

Hulababy · 04/08/2005 12:19

Finsihed the book this weekend - at last. Was such bad timing for me to get it, and then Royal mail failed to deliver. Argh!

Anyway, going to spend some time having a scroll down this thread and see what everyone things.

Hulababy · 04/08/2005 13:58

Taken me ages to get through all this; some interesting things written and being thought.

jabberwocky · 04/08/2005 15:03

So what's your take on all the current thread theories Hulababy?

Jimjams · 08/08/2005 11:40

888888888888888888888

Just read it (in about a day!) I love trefusis' theory about Dumbledore having drank a potion of the living dead- so therefore was already dead (will have to re-read that bit). And will now have to reread OOTP to get all the bits I missed.

Jimjams · 08/08/2005 20:21

*

potion was the wrong colour though. Remember when Dumbledore (ages ago- in an early book) told Harry he could understand parseltongue because he had a bit of Voldemort in him. So the scar could be a Horcrux, If he is then dumbledore knew it but didn't tell Harry.
