Spoiler The Potter Thread for those who have finished the book

happymerryberries · 17/07/2005 21:31

This is for everyone who knows what has happened and wants to chat about what will come next

Spoilers Space

I think that a lot of the next one will be in Grimauld place.

Sirius' brother is the person who stole the Locket (idea pinched from a clever mate of mine)

Dumbledore ordered Sirius to 'do the deed' and Sirius is a triple agent

I still think Percy Weasly will turn out to be a 'good egg'

Another good idea stolen from someone else is that part of Vodermorts soul is held in Harry's scar!!!! Damn clever that I thought!!!

Spoiler for people who read from the bottom, so to speak!

OP posts:
lunavix · 21/07/2005 15:32

I think if Dumbledore is dead, then he deliberately 'believed' snape was evil, for his own plan (like what was said elsewhere, harry fighting on his own)

Don't like second Dumbledore, first was perfect. Snape is perfect. Harry is too stocky. Ron is perfect. Did NOT like Quirrel (looked too much like that bloke from Carry On movies!!!)

I hope Ginny gets better looking lol!!! Thought McGonagall was perfect too.

Sirius was terrible.. I expected him to be much better looking.

And I thought the lupin/tonks thing felt like it had just been thrown in the end, as an afterthought. I hope she'll sort that out by developing it in the next book.

I also loved this book. Thought 5 and 3 were quite weak myself.

flamesparrow · 21/07/2005 15:34

I loved 3!!!!

lunavix · 21/07/2005 15:37

And I think Snape using a different spell than the one he said is VERY plausible, as they seemed to spend the whole year learning nonverbal spells!

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 15:41

Snape had plenty of opportunity to kidnap Harry and serve him up to Voldemort himself, especially if he knew about Malfoy's magic passageway. He also knew Harry had his potions book as soon as Harry used the Spectum curse on Malfoy. Yet he never told Dumbledore. He could have said 'Accio Potions Book' and had it back in an instant. He could also have tortured Harry in detention a la Dolores Umbridge, instead he just constantly reminds him of hte torment he suffered at the hands of James Potter and Sirius Black, as if to say, 'Don't be like him'.

flamesparrow · 21/07/2005 15:43

Non-verbal makes sense to me.

I still can't believe that Hermione didn't twig who's book it was.

Ooh, and Snape didn't know about the passage... Malfoy said he didn't trust him enough to tell him didn't he?

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 15:45

Exactly. He didn't know about the passage and it's likely he didn't realise the Death Eaters were coming, hence being in his room when it occured.

He also didn't go after Harry even though he was obviously EXTREMELY angry when Harry kept calling him a coward. He ordered all the other Death Eaters to leave him for Voldemort. Yet he could easily have re-jinxed him and squired him away to Voldemort.

flamesparrow · 21/07/2005 15:46

I still have faith

Is it madness in us or just extreme suspiscion that makes us unable to believe that the baddie is bad????

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 15:47

.

Don't forget the blank line at the top of your post!!

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 15:48

Why do we need a blank line when the thread announces itself as a spoiler?

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 15:49

Because the first line of your post displays in Active Conversations

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 15:49

There's more than meets the eye w/Snape.

He did comment however that Dumbledore's greatest weakness is that he always sees the best in people. Himself included.

flamesparrow · 21/07/2005 15:49

$%$%$%

Unlike the bloody thread who asked who died... I would have killed them if I'd not finished it! Didn't know for sure anyone died.

Not that that's the point... hormonal and ranting..

I'd forgoteen about leaving the line, sorry

It is because the first line can be seen if you are looking in certain bits of mn.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 15:50

Not active convos.... in searches.

K! I like it that the book leaves the door wide open for what happens next.

Alive or dead, Dumbledore has done all he can for Harry. No one can protect him now b/c he's coming of age.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 15:55

RE the mirror for talking to Sirius - did Harry try it and it didn't work once Sirius had died or did he just shove it in his trunk assuming it wouldn't work?

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 15:59

He tried it and nothing happened. It was either shortly before or after he went to Nearly Headless Nick imploring him if there were any way Sirius could come and see him, even as a ghost. And Nick told him no, that Sirius has moved on.

I found that entire passage really, really sad. Especially when Harry actually thought about finding that archway again and going through it so he could see Sirius.

The poor kid was robbed of every type of a father he ever had b/c of Voldemort, yet he's still not so consumed with hate he becomes evil, which was exactly what Dumbledore was trying to get across to him throughout the entire book.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 16:01

Yes, I thought he'd tried it. I@m going to go baack and read 4 again.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 16:03

It's very near the end, Soup. He found the mirror again. And what his thoughts are italicised in my edition of the book. He actually thinks about going thru that archway 'and see Sirius again'.

Does anyone else find Kreacher amusing?

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 16:04

$%399$$$

Nearly Headless Nick tells him that he is a ghost b/c he was afraid of death, but that Sirius was not.

I found it all very touching.

george32 · 21/07/2005 16:08

Just finished it.........surely Dumbledore isn't really dead

Off to read the rest of the thread now to see what theories have sprung up so far.

Dahlia · 21/07/2005 16:17

I wonder who will play Slughorn? What about Fred Elliott off Corra??
Expat, Kreacher made me laugh alot when Hermione was nice to him and he said 'the mudblood is speaking to kreacher, kreacher will pretend he cannot hear'.
Has anyone heard anything about when the last book will come out? Seeing as she has definitely written the ending already, maybe it will be sooner than 2 years?

flamesparrow · 21/07/2005 16:18

&%&*%&

I felt a bit sorry for old Sluggy - yeah, he told him about the Horcruxes, but even if he hadn't, I should think he'd have found out some other way.

george32 · 21/07/2005 16:19

Didn't hide the first line, hope no-one sees it who doesn't want to

expatinscotland · 21/07/2005 16:19

I just find it funny how he refers to himself in the 3rd person. He was hysterical in Book 5, 'Mistress says Master Sirius isn't fit to lick her boots.'

Then how he sent Harry that package of maggots for Christmas, 'To Master, From Kreacher'.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2005 16:21

.
The person I can imagine as Slughorn is, unfortunately, Richard Griffiths who plays Mr Dursley!
