So here's the June challenge. Four weeks to lose 8lbs. I'm low carbing, but it doesn't matter what plan or diet you're following.

Who else is in?

OP posts:
MiaWallace · 15/06/2010 15:13

Doing ok so far today. I had sausage, bacon and eggs for breakfast and chicken drumsticks for lunch.

I've also done 30 day shred.

Plan to do an hour on the spin bike this evening and I've got roast chicken for dinner.

BUT I'm really struggling with cravings for junk food and carbs. Need to keep on track because I put on 3lb since Thursday after falling off the wagon. Would love to get that 3lb back off before the wedding on Saturday.

febes · 15/06/2010 17:50

Damn after being so good all day I just had 2 small squares of choc and then licked the spoon with angel delight when the kids were having tea.

I'm focused again though. I think.

Squidmission · 16/06/2010 09:36

Mia I'm sure you can shed those 3lbs by Sat - usually if it goes on quickly, it can come off quickly.

Yesterday was
porridge
tuna salad
yoghurt
and then we went to an Italian restaurant where I had a bit of a cheese starter, a fish dish in tomato sauce with slalad and then shared a dessert

Today I've had porridge for breakfast and then I'm going to someones house for lunch. I have to eat what I'm given so I'm hoping its healthy!

I've done my 30 day shred dvd this morning and have tennis this evening.

AvadaKedavra · 16/06/2010 10:13

febes, I doubt it'lll make a difference I ate a whole bar of dark choc last week and still lost weight, moderation! (which I obviously can't do!! lol)

plans today:

B: fresh fruit salad
L: chicken and ham salad
D: baked sweet potato wedges, chicken leg, veggies

MiaWallace · 16/06/2010 10:13

squidmission do you have tennis lessons? Are you a beginner?

I would love to learn tennis and I'm thinking of starting lessons after the honeymoon. I am an absolute beginner though, I don't even know all the rules. Do you need to know the basics before starting?

I've lost 1lb of the 3lb I gained. Means I need to shift another 2lb before Saturday

Did well yesterday but I'm struggling with cravings today.

Squidmission · 16/06/2010 10:47

Mia - Yes I'm having tennis lessons and I'm a complete beginner and know nothing! I'm really enjoying it though and its such a lovely thing to do outside on a summer evening (I've been very lucky weather so far! )

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/06/2010 12:32

Squid it's hard isn't it when you aren't in charge of the menu!

Yesterday was

B:toast and peanut butter
L:tuna pate, bread and salad
S:cashew nuts
D:meatballs in tomato sauce and brocolli

Today is

B:Cereal with semi-skimmed milk
L:Cheese sandwich and salad
D:Roast chicken, celeriac chips and green beans

No movement on the scales but I've lost another half an inch off my waist and had to tighten my bra straps so things are moving in the right direction.

justaminute · 16/06/2010 17:02

Avada they say dark chocolate is good for you - that must have helped with the weight loss

I'm lousy with moderation too, I stupidly bought a big bag of malteasers for the dcs and I keep finding myself opening up the packet. Each time I tell myself it will be the last one, it never is. However on the plus side I've not had a biscuit for 10 days.

febes · 16/06/2010 20:42

Wow much better day today

B: bacon, egg, mushroom
L: Moussaka
D: gammon with salad and cheese

snack: salami, ham

AAAAANNNNDDDD I haven't been hungry or fridge raiding. I have been busy at work for most the day so that probably helped but maybe this low carb thing is kicking off. I got my ketostixs (sp?) so I might test my wee. Gives me motivation!!!!!

MiaWallace · 17/06/2010 08:04

Down another pound today so I've almost lost the 3lb I gained.

Sure it will all go back on again during the honeymoon.

febes · 17/06/2010 08:41

Does anyone know how ketostix work. Should I be wanting more pink or less?

AvadaKedavra · 17/06/2010 09:39

Try the low carbers thread febes?

Didn't do too well yesterday, not enough water, 3 glasses of red wine and no lunch

Will do better today!

B: special K, semi skimmed milk
L: subway club
D: spinach omelette

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/06/2010 10:28

Mia - I put on 5 pounds on our 2 week honeymoon! Didn't care by then

Febes - I don't know how they work, but the lack of hunger pangs is a big indicator that you're in ketosis. When I was fully low-carbing I felt like I was eating loads because I wasn't hungry, but when I worked it out I was only eating about 900 calories a day.

I have sneaked (snuck?) under the 15st mark, hurrah! Another half inch off all over myself as well, clothes are fitting so much better it's unbelievable. I put my jeans on this morning that I haven't worn for over 2 months due to the hideous muffin-top. They fit, there are no muffins!

B:Peanut butter on toast
L:Salad nicoise
D:Salmon with pesto and asparagus

MiaWallace · 17/06/2010 11:35

febes in theory the darker the ketostixs are the more ketones in your body. BUT if you look at the atkins forum most people say the ketostixs are useless.

I read about one woman getting a ketostix out of the pack before taking a shower and the steam from the shower turned the ketostix pink.

Like Ali says lack of hunger is a better indicator that you are in ketosis. Along with that horrible metalic taste you get in your mouth from ketones being released

febes · 17/06/2010 15:43

I have the metalic taste and no hunger. I was 1.5 on the scale so not that dark more in the middle. But it definately sounds like its working. Thanks ladies!!
Today I have had
B: Cheese and ham omelette
L: Prawn salad with cheese and mayo
Tonight I'm going to make beef stroganoff with vege/salad??

AliB Brilliant work girl!!! You must feel amazing!

justaminute · 17/06/2010 19:02

Grrr, I'm struggling today. Very tired, eaten sack loads of malteasers and jelly babies this afternoon. Now feel worse for it.

Dcs are finally asleep so I'm drawing a line under the bad stuff and off to make dinner - sausages(low fat), mash (mainly for dh) and lots of veg.

Will exercise later too.

LemonDifficult · 17/06/2010 20:14

Feeling OKish about today

Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: 2 slices ham, ratatoille and chutney
Supper: packet of steamed brown rice with butternut squash
Snack: 2 plums, a few grapes, a bag of organix spicy tomato stars

So basically, not too bad but... I got on the scales this evening and I'd put on 1.5lbs! Oh no. Not sure what went wrong but might be being a bit greedy with my portions.

Mia - very excited for you. Good luck tomorrow, I bet you're looking fab.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/06/2010 23:10

Gah - McDonalds for tea! I felt like crap afterwards, all bloated and yucky.

Have just done 45 mins of yoga and circuits and feel much better.

Febes - definitely sounds like you are in ketosis, those pounds should start to tumble off!

AvadaKedavra · 18/06/2010 08:39

HI all, last day to check in here till I get back off holidays, and I am being careful food wise but I am out tonight and WILL have a couple of drinks and possibly a kebab!

B: special K
L: soup
D: kebab!

febes · 18/06/2010 13:03

Have a great holiday AK and enjoy that kabab.

B: greek yog, blueberries and a touch of cream
L: steak and salad
D: will be roast chicken with butternut squash and broc.

I tested on my ketostix after breakfast and it was pink but not as dark as yesterday so I think that not having protein for breakfast made a difference. I don't feel hungry still and I got my Neris and India books so I have started reading them. I feel so motivated.

Squidmission · 18/06/2010 13:04

I've been ill for thae last couple f days. Unfortunately, I felt like eating everything I could lay my hands on!
I've not done too badly today but I'm still lacking energy and feel like I need to munch.

febes · 19/06/2010 13:38

Weighed myself this morning and I have lost 4lbs since tuesday!!!! I am starting to feel it too. .

Squidmission · 20/06/2010 10:53

Well done febes! Thats brilliant.

Have a great time Avadakedavra.

Todays plan;

Weetabix, yogurt, spooful of mixed dried fruit
tuna salad
chicken & veg

justaminute · 21/06/2010 09:11

Stayed the same . I shouldn't really be surprised, I gave into wine which led to crisps and jelly babies at the weekend. Also we made chocolate covered flapjack for dh for father's day. I was hoping the oats would be considered healthy

The 8lb challenge is looking bleak now. I must meal plan tonight and do the shop tomorrow to avoid going off the rails...again!

dbm · 21/06/2010 14:27

Well done febes. Thats excellent. I'm in tune with justaminute though - my 7lbs target is under pressure; last week I did really good eating and exercise but over the weekend its been bbq central round here so more food and wine than planned; on the plus side I avoided bread rolls etc but I am 3 whole pounds heavier than last week. Very much back on the wagon now and I'm sure I'll be lighter again within a couple of days.
