June is busting out all over - just like I am!

So here's the June challenge. Four weeks to lose 8lbs. I'm low carbing, but it doesn't matter what plan or diet you're following.

Who else is in?

OP posts:
LemonDifficult · 05/06/2010 10:51

Day 5 and I just couldn't hang on until Tuesday so I got on the scales and... 2lb off! Yippee. Yippee.

And I'm really pleased with that as it hasn't been too hard. Admittedly, I haven't had all the tough tests that are coming up this week: meals out, friend coming to stay, children's birthday party, etc.

BIWI - I totally know what you mean about the 'flattering' dress. I look like an overstuffed sofa in almost every photo of me at my sister-in-law's wedding...

meonlybetter · 05/06/2010 11:02

Can i join in please few days late! Im WW (or trying to). Know what I need to do: keep to points, loads of veggies at each meal, snack on carrot sticks and salsa rather than tubes of pringles and get running.
Sounds so simple and doable written down but somehow I just cant start. Every night go to bed thinking tommorrow will be the day, desperately need to get some momentum going. If I can lose the first 8lb I feel the motivation will flow from that

LemonDifficult · 05/06/2010 11:19

meonlybetter - I'm doing a sort of WW, trying to remember what the points value of things is, asking my friend who lost 3st for anything I don't know. I'm also trying to go pretty low carb. It's all a bit vague but I plan to sharpen things up! Whatever, sadly I can see that there is unlikely to be a place for family sized bags of crisps and tzatziki...

Basically, I'm hoping this thread and regular weighing will keep me on track!

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 11:44

Can I join too please? The last thread I joined fizzled out very quickly and I need some morla support as not going to a group class or anything.
Am eating healthily, low GI (no bread, sweet potatoes vs normal, brown rice, wheat free pasta etc) and nothing processed, plenty fresh fruit and veg, lean meat and fish, no fatty dairy stuff, no cakes/biscuits etc, no alcohol, LOTS of water (Miawallace, this should help your headaches)

I have already lost a stone and 4lbs, but slipped majorly this last week, not weighed in as don't want to further depress myself - am all fired up and have set myself a mini mini goal of 4lbs off in the next 2 weeks (have a family thing) to hopefully get back to where I was (assuming it's 4lbs I put on of course!)

Breakfast: 3 ryvitas with 3 rashers grilled bacon
Snack: apple
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs and some hm tomato soup
Snack: melon
Dinner: 2 quorn burgers, sweetcorn and salad
Snack: kiwi fruit

DrSpechemin · 05/06/2010 12:56

So far so good - I know it's only lunchtime but it is an achievement to have not gone 'off plan' already

Am determined not to be tempted by crips today.

Forgot to add a vodka and lemonade at the end of the day!

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 13:02

I am bored and that's dangerous. No money to go out and do anything though and nobody to do it with as they are all working or on holidays, could wander round town window shopping I suppose?

LemonDifficult · 05/06/2010 13:10

Crisps are my absolute downfall. Crisps are just sooo good. But being thin will be better, I tell myself...

AK - window shopping a brilliant idea as it could act as a refocussing exercise and you could imagine yourself (the soon-to-be deliciously slender you) in lovely things.

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 13:18

Long way off soon to be, need to lose at least 5 stone to be in healthy range but yes I think I will go out and the walk of course will help as I have no cash for the bus there and back either ;)

Crisps I can take or leave, my downfall is I am easily led, cave under peer pressure, if I have a night out and promise to have just two drinks, my resolve wanes. But I don't want to have to stay in to avoid it all, I need to learn how to say no to others to myself and mean it!

MiaWallace · 05/06/2010 13:31

Thanks for the advice AvadaKedavra but I am drinking at least 3 litres of water a day.

The headaches are common for the first couple of days of the diet I'm on. Just need to push through it.

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 19:09

Hope everyone's had a good day?

Well I have managed to get through day 1 - I hate the first day, always a struggle but I know tomorrow will be better my body feels awful from lack of sugar having overdone it somewhat this past week

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 19:45

also wondered if anyone cared to swap msn details for instant support when needed? (I have it on my phone)

LemonDifficult · 05/06/2010 20:17

I think I had a good day but can't be sure as for lunch DH bought 'salads' from M&S which tasted too good to be good IFYSWIM. Ham salad for supper. I don't think I could cope if I wasn't allowed to eat mustard.

AK - Good work with the walk. I'm not on MSN but plan to check in here lots as I reckon you're all so good for keeping me on track. I also will sadly not be 'slender' anytime soon (2st 3 to lose) but with this thread to motivate me I am truly determined to kick that 8lbs in four weeks, oh yes, oh yes!

AvadaKedavra · 05/06/2010 20:19

I didn't go out, I went to bed instead will go out tomorrow to make up for it though, may even attempt a jog

If you like pre packaged salads, check out the tuna nicoise from Boots, totally delicious and only 130 calories.

MiaWallace · 06/06/2010 08:02

Found the diet easy yesterday but my appetite is non-existent.

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs
Lunch - nothing
Dinner - half roast chicken

I'm sure it's not healthy to eat as little as I am but it is only a short term fix till I get married (13 days), then I will start introducing more healthy carbs.

Hope everyone is doing well. When is everyones weekly weigh in?

I weigh daily but Tuesday is the weight I take for my weekly loss.

meonlybetter · 06/06/2010 08:15

good day i think:
b - peanut butter and toast 4
l - salad and avocado and fruit 3
d - pasta tomato sce quorn meatballs baked butternut squash 5
s - glass wine 2
total 14
also went swimming with kids so a good start!

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 06/06/2010 08:26

Can I join? I'm doing Slimming World.

Lost 6.5 lbs on my first week, and I am due to be weighed again tomorrow. Hoping to have lost another couple of pounds. Fingers crossed.

shortandsweet2 · 06/06/2010 09:27

Morning

I had abit of a naughty night on Friday as went to the Gormet Burger Kitchen but got back on it yesterday.

Yesterday:
Shakes for breastfast and lunch
Dinner - HM chicken kebabs
Snacks - Banana, slimfast snack bar and a couple of vodkas

Hope you are all keeping well

Naetha · 06/06/2010 10:16

Morning all - I'm feeling a little bit the worse for wear after a girls' night out last night. I wore a dress for the first time since I got married five years ago, and I really did look good. DH practically forced me out of the house to go shopping for something to wear, and I'm really glad I went. I always hated clothes shopping because I always looked so horrendous under fitting room lights, but this time almost every outfit I tried on looked good. I even managed to get into a size 12 maxi dress and looked really good! I would have bought it, but it was a bit pricey

I've managed to lose another 2lbs this week, despite a few little treats. I'm finding the combination of Alli and 30 day shred to be a really good one - I feel really fit AND the weight is coming off. I'm doing the Race for Life next weekend, and looking forwards to being able to run as much of it as possible.

Had a fry up for breakfast, but hopefully it won't have been too bad - mushrooms and an egg fried in 2 sprays of that one-cal oil spray, grilled lean bacon with the fat cut off, and some beans. Feel much better for it!

Ginnielynnie · 06/06/2010 11:05

Morning all-would love to join. I'm new to MN.

Today will be day one, have many stones to lose, but need to start somewhere!

I am looking to eat healthily and excersise, although was in Boots yesterday and seen the Tony Ferguson plan, may give it a go, anyone else tried/on this?

Good Luck Naetha for next weekend, I'm doing a 5k fun run, with my son in the buggy, so more than likely a fun "walk" for me!

AvadaKedavra · 06/06/2010 13:16

Hi everyone well I was going to go out for a walk today but it's absolutely throwing it down so unless it clears I won't be going out [ghd'd my hair emote] I will go on the wii instead though

Todays food plan is:

B: 2x ryvita with hummus and cold beef
Snack: banana
L: chicken salad
Snack: apple
D: HM keema curry and brown boiled basmati rice

Naetha, well done on getting into a size 12

Ginnielynnie, what's the Tony Ferguson plan? Not heard of it?

Does anyone have any coping strategies for going out for drinks/meals? I don't drive so can't even nominate myself as a driver and I have no will power when all around me are drinking (plus am a bit shy and alcohol helps )

thereistheball · 06/06/2010 14:38

Right, I'm back from camping, which was great, but need to get back on track as I didn't manage to resist the pain au chocolat, white choc Magnum, or my daughter's chips. Or the entire bottle of wine

Tonight = more chicken pesto salad. Tomorrow I am going shopping for lots of veg and meat :-)

AvadaKedavra · 06/06/2010 14:49

How do you make your chicken pesto salad?

thereistheball · 06/06/2010 15:41

I fry largish chunks of chicken then coat them in a lot of pesto, and bung into a salad with a few cherry tomatoes, some parmesan and mini mozzarella balls, and occasionally some cooled fried courgettes.

If you want to do something more formal you can get whole chicken breasts, slice into them horizonally, stuff with either pesto and mozzarella or a mush of feta and sundried tomatoes, then wrap in parma ham and fry (you will need to cut into one to make sure they are cooked through). You can serve with salad and fried courgettes. Mmmm.

I have just meal-planned for this week and here's what we're having in the evenings:

-chicken pesto salad (tonight)
-pork and mushroom balls with savoy cabbage (the balls are poached and taste just like the inside of a wonton)
-leek carbonara
-bolognese with the rest of the cabbage
-mackerel with soy and ginger, with green beans
-lamb stewed in rosé with flageolets

For lunch I'm having tofu and broccoli stir-fry; salade nicoise; asparagus and goats' cheese frittata; goats' cheese and raspberry vinegar with serrano ham; smoked mackerel paté.

Feel better for having meal-planned. I'm back in control, and know that there is a week of delicious food ahead so there is no need to resort to evil carbs.

thereistheball · 06/06/2010 15:52

Sorry, just realised I posted this on the wrong thread!

AvadaKedavra · 06/06/2010 15:59

Oh dear, where did you mean to be for what it's worth, your menu plan sounds lovely I may steal a bit of it as doing lower carbs (not officially low carb though)
