So here's the June challenge. Four weeks to lose 8lbs. I'm low carbing, but it doesn't matter what plan or diet you're following.

Who else is in?

I am working again this evening and struggling to resist comfort eating temptation, but I'm back on the low carb wagon one day at a time...

I've had today: protein shake for breakfast, lunch of cheese and mini scotch eggs , dinner has been [double ] the pepperoni and cheese topping from the kids' pizza. I might have some salad shortly when I've got through the next batch of work.

So if I can hold out, I'll have managed a proper low carb day.

I hate this bit: when you're back on the diet or just starting and you have no progress yet to motivate you... It just has to be pure willpower until the first pound or so comes off.

dbm · 02/06/2010 21:04

have had a good day foodwise but now having a glass of wine and some oatcakes and light philly; dont feel guilty as I'm really enjoying it and have had exercise today and its low fat

well done to those who've already lost lots of weight, you've achieved a great deal

not sure I could do shakes - do you feel fulfilled?

Quattrocento · 02/06/2010 21:06

Oh I have to confess to precisely 5 chips

Really it is very unfair of colleagues to order chips when they know you are low-carbing

Almost a form of torture, or at the very least, workplace bullying

shortandsweet2 · 03/06/2010 06:38

dhm - I have done the protein shakes and they do fill you if you mix it with milk. I had my 1st slimfast day yesterday and wasn't too bad.

Heres to day 2 for me
Shake for breakfast & lunch
Snack - Banana & strawberries & natural yoghurt
Dinner - Hmmmmm probably some quorn sausages and eggs

Good luck everyone and quattro stay strong first few days are always the hardest

bourboncreme · 03/06/2010 08:26

Right today I will be good, have sarted off with breakfast of raisin wheats and have done a frui salad to take to work to keep me away from the biscuit cupboard!

Not helped by just being told that the tennis for ds3 has been cancelled so now he has to go with Grandma...hes not happy so more guilt tripping, this would normally result in toast but I am going to be strong

izzybiz · 03/06/2010 09:44

Day 2 or me too, so far have had a SF meal bar for breakfast, need to go to town today so will take a snack and buy a shake while I am out.

I then have 2 snack to use through the afternoon.

Am planning on having a takeaway tonight, so either a chicken kebab and salad or a chow mein from the chinese.

Good luck today!

MiaWallace · 03/06/2010 09:50

Can I join?

I'm getting married in 16 days! I've lost 8lb in the last 3 weeks but need to lose some more before the wedding to feel comfortable in my dress.

I'm low carbing. Also doing an hour on the spin bike each day. I'm also going to start back on 30 day shred again today. Had to stop before because I damaged my knee.

FluffyDonkey · 03/06/2010 10:15

Can I join too?

Never dieted before - am a real first timer!

Thing is, had my first wedding dress fitting yesterday...and it's a tad tight!

Objective - lose 7 lbs (3kg) in 4 weeks.

NO idea how I'll do it as I hate salad and am not very keen on veg/fruit.

Do lots of exercise already so can't increase that.

Any advice is welcome!

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/06/2010 10:16

Welcome all!

OP posts:
FluffyDonkey · 03/06/2010 10:26

Going for lunch soon and really hope I don't crack....

Thing is, my work pays for lunch so it is very hard not to have whatever I feel like!

Dessert is my biggest failing...

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/06/2010 12:14

Hold strong, FluffyDonkey!

OP posts:
FluffyDonkey · 03/06/2010 13:21

I was strong...but now I feel strangely sick (hunger???!!!)

Had a tiny salad - one large salad leaf (really don't like it), 6 cherry tomatoes, some chicken and a tiny chunk of parmesan. One glass of fresh orange juice and one fromage blanc with red fruit coulis.

Started to feel sick so have nibbled a dozen raisins. And feel slightly better.

LemonDifficult · 03/06/2010 20:38

Day 3 for me and I'm longing to weigh myself! I know, I know it's better to wait the week but...

WilfShelf is right about the lack of progress motivation. Really, I am just as fat as three days ago but perhaps a bit more optimistic about bikini wearing in September. (We're going on holiday and I'd like to be photographable by then.)

thereistheball · 03/06/2010 21:16

Ah, so this is where you got to BIWI. I'm in . I've been low-carbing for much of the year, on and off, and have lost 17lb. I have about the same to go and had stalled after throwing myself at some pizzas, but this hot weather, the brutal reality of H+M's changing room mirrors, and now this thread are inspiring me.

Today I had ham and cream cheese for breakfast, a salade nicoise for lunch and a picnic of salami, cheese and salad for supper. No alcohol, which is a novelty. Could do with some more variation. And also need to do some planning as we're camping at the weekend without a coolbox, in a place that sells those pizzas I mentioned...

dbm · 03/06/2010 21:24

I know its not the best thing but I do weigh myself daily - the scales are in the bathroom, its habit as I always weigh myself in the morning.
Just had toast for brekky, tuna salad sandwich for lunch, fish+veg+small amount potatoes for tea, one glass of wine and 2 pieces of fruit. Not exciting but not bad.
OMG just remembered friend came round for a cuppa and brought a choc biccie and I didnt think twice about eating it. How does that happen?

MiaWallace · 04/06/2010 07:53

Had a good day yesterday. I'm doing the three day experiment (VERY low carbs). It's difficult and not sustainable long term but it's giving me the fast results I need before I get married.

Yesterday I had
breakfast - 2 boiled eggs
lunch - tuna
snack - ham
dinner - chicken omelet

I'm also a daily weigher and was down another pound today.

izzybiz · 04/06/2010 08:34

Day 3 here, having my shake as we speak!

I was going to weigh weekly so should wait till Weds but just walked past the scales...

They show I have lost 2.5lbs! I weighed Mon, and have SF for 2 days! Wow, gives me the incentive to keep going anyway!

Keep strong today ladies! x

FluffyDonkey · 04/06/2010 08:40

I weigh myself most days. Always at my lowest weight on Sundays and usually highest on Thursdays...think I really need to cut down what I eat at work - almost always eat in restaurants, very hard not to eat a lot!

Mia - am very impressed with how little you eat! I just can't do it. Feel sick if I don't eat little and often.

Must stay strong...

PS have to say I impressed myself yesterday by eating half a bourbon. I put the other half back!!! (DP helped by saying, don't eat it, clean your teeth instead!)

MiaWallace · 04/06/2010 08:49

Fluffydonkey, I normally have a huge appetite but when you cut out the carbs and eat a lot of protein you body goes into ketosis and your appetite disappears.

I am really struggling to eat anything at the moment. I only manage to eat because I know if I don't my weight loss will stall.

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/06/2010 08:53
  • brilliant progress!

Fluffy - what kind of diet/plan are you following? It seems to me that if you're eating so little it's not surprising that you're not feeling great. And psychologically you're putting yourself under greater pressure because sooner rather than later you'll feel very deprived, which is also likely to lead you to cheat.

The reason miawallace can eat so little is that when you're low carbing (especially as drastically as the 3DE) you go very quickly into ketosis, which acts as an appetite suppressant.

It's one of the great benefits of low carbing, that you rarely feel hungry - which stops you obsessing about food/calories/your next meal - which in turn helps to keep the motivation high.

Day 4 here, and I'm struggling with the idea of not having a drink on a Friday!

Yesterday's meals were:

B - cheese omelette
L - leftover aubergine/spinach bake from night before, and a low carb jelly
D - griddled chicken kebabs, devilled eggs, asparagus with parmesan, roasted veg (cauli, peppers, courgettes, onion) and green bean salad

Sounds a lot, but just one plateful, with a little of each!

I'm out for lunch today, so not sure what will be available - but will be driving so no need to worry about the White Wine Witch.

shortandsweet2 · 04/06/2010 10:21

Morning ladies

Slimfast is getting a little easier this morning, don't feel as hungry.

Last night we had kangaroo burgers from our butcher last night they are ment to be very very low in fat, they were very yum and will be getting them again

Today:
2 bananas for snacks
2 shakes
we are going to the gormet burger kitchen tonight - can't wait!

MiaWallace · 05/06/2010 07:36

I really struggled yesterday. I had no energy to exercise, craved carbs all day and had a headache for most of the afternoon.

I ate more than normal trying to get rid of the symptoms.

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs
Lunch - 3 pork loin steaks (fat trimmed off)
Dinner - 2 sirloin steaks and a pork loin (fat trimmed off)

No exercise.

I was a bit worried about weighing this morning after eating so much but I've lost another pound.

Makes it 3lb since Tuesday

thereistheball · 05/06/2010 07:58

Another 1lb down here, which is pleasing. Today will be a challenge though - out and about in the heat, and camping later. Have to get a move on actually. But this will keep me motivated.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and keep up the good work.

DrSpechemin · 05/06/2010 08:15

Can I join? I put on 8 lbs after being ill for a month and just don't seem to be able to shift it.

I'm just logging my food on food focus. I do need to really take control of my eating though. Don't really do much exercise atm other than walking to school/town.

Plan for today is
B - berries and greek yoghurt 0% with tsp honey
L - crab salad
D - couscous salad and BBQ'd chicken thighs (skin off)

I am aiming to drink more water as well as sometimes I notice I haven't drunk anything all day.

Well done those of you who are losing weight

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/06/2010 10:10

LOL - I'm so focused, I read that you were having 'carb salad' for lunch!

Well, I failed on the white wine front, but had a lot less than I would usually on a Friday .

Lunch was dire - thought I was making a sensible choice, going for 'slow roasted pork shoulder with sage and onion sauce and roast potatoes'. Asked for veg instead of the potatoes, of course.

When it arrived, the pork was smothered in a brown looking kind of sauce - couldn't taste any sage and it was horribly sweet - with a huge dollop of apple sauce on the top. And the substitute veg turned out to be mainly carrots. So even scraping all the sauce off meant I still probably had too many carbs in all that lot.

Breakfast had been scrambled eggs, so no carbs there, and then dinner - which is Indian takeaway on a Friday - was chicken tikka and cauliflower bhaji, so not too bad.

I only weighed myself yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised (i.e. that it wasn't higher than it was!) and will weigh again on Monday.

But I've also just received some pictures of my friend's party last weekend, and all the ones of me, without exception were hideous and showed my additional weight to best effect. I realised, too, that the dress I thought was so lovely was not flattering.
