None of the other threads quite fit the bill, so here goes: I want to lose 1 stone and get healthy.

Have tried lots of diets in the past so am going to be experimenting a bit I think, starting with some fairly generalised 'healthy eating', especially increasing my veg intake. And hopefully some exercise ...

Most of the Christmas treats are now scoffed, kids went back to school today, so I'm starting now and will get really serious once I have the chance to shop!

that's fab ebayaddict. i'm hoping for at least 3lbs off on my first weight - in on Monday. Mind you I have the weekend to face first!!

curlycat · 15/01/2010 12:48

oops!

ebayaddict · 15/01/2010 13:11

Well done on the weight losses everyone.

I don't know about all of you but I find weekends much harder. I've done 9 days without booze and i'm starting to miss my red wine.

Dh is on lates as wel so wil be out of the house from 10am until 11pm both days. Makes for a long weekend with the dc's.

Bobbybee · 15/01/2010 13:24

I find weekends difficult too ebayaddict.

I've decided to have Sat nights 'off'
I'll still try to make healthy choices but I'm going to have a nice meal with dh. We don't eat together during the week.
We also often see family on Saturdays too so I will eat food that will put me over my cal allowance. I'm not going to worry too much about it and just do some excercise and cut back on Sundays.

swanriver · 15/01/2010 14:07

well I am starving again! Having lunch at moment (got through mornng without snacks)
Small portion of cold gratin dauphinoise
half a red pepper
piece of wesleydale and a piece of brown bread - now need some more of SOMETHING (not quite sure what..hmm)but not bagels - luckily they've gone now..grapes and coffee perhaps
supper is beef cass.

Bobbybee · 15/01/2010 16:06

I know the feeling Swan! I'm feeling very peckish now.
I just did a shop so have bought lots of nice food for the kids snacks and dh.
I bought myself some Tesco's lighter choice lemon drizzle cakes. They don't have much rubbish in them and are 70cals per slice. I've not tasted them so can't vouch for them but I'm definitely looking forward to one with my cup of tea later!
The thought of having a treat later really helps me stick to the diet during the day.

ebayaddict · 15/01/2010 16:30

I love the tiny 15g bars of green & blacks choc. Only about 75cal per bar but I make it last. Tesco had some in gift boxes reduced from Xmas so I bought loads and put them in the fridge. They're my 1 a day treat.

I can't allow myself any leeway at the weeken because one slip and I will just think 'sod it' until Monday morning.

swanriver · 15/01/2010 17:19

I'm holding firm till supper now (7pm), think tming of lunch is crucial that piece of bread at 2pm lunch is protecting me from snack attack now
so off for another cup of strengthening tea

I think even one pieceof choc would be my undoing

Just done more walking with kids in tow...

DoingTheBestICan · 15/01/2010 18:27

Well done everyone, there are some fantastic weight losses this week.

Today i have had,

Porridge with raisins
Ham sandwich,1 tangerine & 1 apple
Veg stir fry

Lots of water today too.

TheHappyCamper · 15/01/2010 19:30

well done everyone - you are doing so well! Keep it up

I have been trying hard the last 2 days. Had the same for breakfast and lunch. For tea I had roast dinner - pork loin in the george forman grill, and roasties sprayed with a tiny bit of oil, plus loads of veg.

I aso think I do better if I have a treat to look forward to in he evening. I have been having one ferrero rocher - 75 cals I think.

I am off to do a big tesco shop tomorrow so will stock up on lots of fruit and veg. I might see about those green and blacks bars aswell.

I will weigh in on Monday or I will be bad over the weekend I know it . I did try a pre-pg pair of jeans on last night and they almost fit yey!

swanriver · 15/01/2010 19:39

Just had for supper

tomatoy beef goulash with no soured cream lol
small portion of mashed potato (bit of milk and butter in it)
loads of parsnips and courgettes unbuttered
raw carrot, raw parsnip whilst cooking supper !
plain yogh with a tny slice of homemade almond biscuit (have not eaten leftover piece ...yet) and bit of stewed apple and apricot unsugared

water to drink
roll on tomorrow - Friday night without snacking is a bit dull isn't it...need to find some good telly...

eggandsoldiers · 15/01/2010 20:19

Hi all
Been swamped by work. Still going strong. I have lost weight too and congrats to all who have lost. Not sure exactly how much but i think 1kg
I need to get the water habit, I do not drink any. Really hard to get into doing it. I am going to trry to do that from now on

eggandsoldiers · 15/01/2010 20:23

Today I had
Porridge
Cheese sandwich
3 oranges
Small bowl of pasta with brocoli and low fat sauce
low fat curry with brown rice
trying not to have any of my usual tipples tonight

swanriver · 15/01/2010 21:28

TIP - for dieters
any small amount of leftovers from family meal - pasta with sauce, potato, meat, put immediately into fridge or freezer with clingfilm and designate as another meal. Then you won't be tempted to scrape out pan later and eat etc, and it goes surprisingly far when added to something else(veggies for example) when having healthylunch.

TIP for drinkers who are cutting back on evenign drinks
Bottle of perrier in fridge, to make you feel you are pouring yourself somethign special

shortandsweet2 · 16/01/2010 06:34

Morning all

I have a confession to make: my day actually turned out like this yesterday:
BF - 1 slice of cinnamon bread and butter
L - Homemade potato wedges and beans
D - McDonalds big tasty meal
2 vodkas and diet lemonade

I was over by 150 cals but had tons left over from all my exercise in the week.

Also weighed again this morning and I have lost a further 1/2 pound - woohoo.

Glad you are all doing much better than me. Will report later what I have today.

curlycat · 16/01/2010 13:30

Hiya

Survived last nights takeaway night by having
spicy chicken in pitta with salad and some chilli sauce.
Today my plan is
B: Cornflakes and a banana
L: Not sure yet soup probably
D: Pork casserole, veggies and potato.

Trying to stick to the core plan in WW so have some extra points for treats so tonight aas i'm not really a drinker i'm going to have a can of 'real' coke and chocolate.

Hope eveyone has a good weekend

swanriver · 16/01/2010 14:29

breakfast unbuttered hot cross bun, half a small cereal bar midmorning
lunch was poached haddock, macaroni cheese medium portion, 2 helpings of peas (unbuttered) and small bunch of grapes
water to drink, and cups of tea and cofee with milk

bit tempted by thought of nuts or biscuits but have resisted - do feel hungry though

more walking today (back and forth with dcs to drop-offs)

well done on all exercise curly-cat enjoy the coke - it is almost medicinal in its pickme up effects!

TheHappyCamper · 16/01/2010 18:54

Oh the weekends are hard!

Spent 2 hours going round tesco today trying v hard to make good choices! Had a baked spud with cheese, beans and salad in the cafe first which stopped me buying junk

Couldn't find the green and blacks bars so boughtsome go-ahead biscuits and cake-bars - all less than 100 cals.

I have just had 2 boiled eggs and 2 toast for tea as am shattered.

Is anyone else excited about weighing in on Monday?

ebayaddict · 16/01/2010 20:31

I lost the plot last night. Had my dinner but then once the dc's were in bed I was on my own waiting for dh to come home at midnight.

In 3 hours I ate
2 hot cross buns loaded with butter, a crunchie & 6 custard creams

I really think that I am going to have to cut carbs drastically as i'm pretty sure that having the bowl of pasta for dinner tipped me over into a carb binge later.

Have been better today and stuck mostly to protein to make up for it
B - banana & teas
gym class - 45 min spinning
L - low fat sausage sndwich and half a tub of low fat cottage cheese with pineapple
snack - orange and half packet of cooked bbq chicken pieces (only 90 cals)
D - home made spag bol meat (without pasta to go with it.) Bowl of frozen berries w lof fat yoghurt.

swanriver · 16/01/2010 20:47

I find the opposite, too few carbs and I'm not full enough to take the pace! But they have to be non-sugary carbs ie: no jammy toast or cake

Had for tea - I carrot
half a tomato
v. small slice of homemade jam
tart

Supper - medium helping of butternut squash risotto with teaspoon of parmesan
half glass white wine

that's enough for me..feel full and happy now

Bobbybee · 17/01/2010 10:11

Yesterday was bad for me. I'm noy going to log it because I can't remember everything I ate!

I'm going to try t o stick to 1000 cals for 3 days to re-balance things.

TheHappyCamper · 17/01/2010 10:58

Sorry some are finding the weekend hard (although secretly relieved it's not just me!)

swanriver - do you have a recipe for the butternut squash risotto? I think dd (9 months) might eat that too - kill 2 birds with one stone

In the process of doing sunday lunch - roast turkey joint with brocolli, leeks, carrots, cauliflower and roast pots with spray oil. Should be reasonably healthy. I find I get much less hungry in total if I can eat my main meal at lunchtime.

Will go out for a nice long walk this afternoon as well.

swanriver · 17/01/2010 15:36

Butternut squash risotto _ use large wide pan
fry small onion and I clove garlic in butter or oil
finely chopped celery (I stick)
chunks of butternut squash (3/4 of squash?)
add rice (risotto preferably) for 3 people
fry gently together until rice goes a bit transparent (2 mins?)
add enough non-salty stock (I used homemade chicken)to cover rice, then stir till evaporated a bit,
add more stock, continue stirring and evaporating until rice assumes creamy consistency (not dry but not soup) and is just cooked (probably three batches of stock?)
near end I sprinkled in some finely chopped parseley and dried sage (not too much)
serve with grated parmesan or grated cheese

Today I feel a bit overwhelmed by having had
(can you tell?)two glasses of red wine at friend's house at a 10 year old's party

Log for today
breakfast hot cross bun unbuttered
2 cups of white coffee (but not cppucinos)
lunch - I piece of garlic bread
2 small glasses of red wine
creamy salmon tartlette oddment
medium portion (4 meatballs) of mtblls in tom sauce and rice
2 lowfat yeovalley fruit yoghurts

so not so good, but have done loads of walking

ebayaddict · 17/01/2010 16:16

log so far today

B - half a bacon sandwich (1 slice wholemeal bread, 2 rasher grilled bacon) + an orange
Gym - 45 min cardio on Xtrainer & 1hr body pump class
Lunch - cherry toms, 3 new potatoes, packet of chinese chicken pieces

Dinner will be home made shepherds pie with some sugar snap peas.

shortandsweet2 · 17/01/2010 17:49
