None of the other threads quite fit the bill, so here goes: I want to lose 1 stone and get healthy.

Have tried lots of diets in the past so am going to be experimenting a bit I think, starting with some fairly generalised 'healthy eating', especially increasing my veg intake. And hopefully some exercise ...

Most of the Christmas treats are now scoffed, kids went back to school today, so I'm starting now and will get really serious once I have the chance to shop!

Morning all

B - Shredded wheat & milk
L - Ham sandwich

I have got lean mince beef but want to do something a bit different - any ideas ladies?

Hope you all have a good day

eggandsoldiers · 20/01/2010 07:07

With the mince, stuffed marrow? Chilli? or you could do a burger with a salad or meatballs.
I am sure someone else will be along with some more inspiring ideas.

I am still in bed, have had a bad night with dd and been up since 330a.m. I am going to have porridge for breakfast.

shortandsweet2 · 20/01/2010 07:11

Egg my DD wasn't too far behind yours - 4am - Most blooming mornings. she 3.6 and wish she would learn to go back to sleep. Hope you get back to sleep for an hour

eggandsoldiers · 20/01/2010 07:14

She is about the same age as mine, mine is 4 in June.

Poor you having to cope every night that is really hard, you too hope you get some rest.

And stay strong, for me anyway tiredness is one of my triggers that tends to undermine food choices, so if same for you stay strong.

shortandsweet2 · 20/01/2010 07:24

Thanks for that egg, Yes it can be a trigger for me too. I drink plenty of coffee to keep me going through the day

swanriver · 20/01/2010 09:43

RE MINCE: Tacos with loads of spices and salady type ingredients? Quite fun assembling if you have a family meal.
or stuffed cabbage leaves served with rice
stuffed peppers (rice and mince together - need v little mince though)

don't have recipes, but would be loads on internet and you can buy taco kits

I think when you are really tired you have to eat in moderation and not starve yourself. It's awful, I know that feeling of eyelids propped up with matchsticks and coffee taken medicinally. Hope little ones sleep a bit better tonight or at least go back to sleep when they wake.

So far, big bowl of almost sugarless porridge with some milk, and black coffee.

shortandsweet2 · 20/01/2010 09:59

Thanks swan for the idea. I think I might make fajitas instead with lots of salad.

I ended up having porridge rather that shredded wheat this morning.

Bobbybee · 20/01/2010 10:39

Good morning everyone.

I've cleaned and aired my house this morning (getting rid of all the 'sick' air, iykwim) and feel much better now.

Tiredness is also a huge trigger for me. I just can't stop eating on days where I've not had much sleep. I seem to crave sugar then too.

today's food;

porridge, slice of toast with peanut butter
baked potato, cottage cheese, salad
apple
rice, chickpea curry
70 cal lemon drizzle cake slice

shortandsweet2 · 20/01/2010 12:50

Og god I have just eaten a 4 finger kitkat and it didn't even touch the sides, I want more

DoingTheBestICan · 20/01/2010 13:01

Hi everyone,yesterday i had

B - banana
L - 4 ryvitas & 1 apple
D - veg soup & some macademia nuts.

Today i have had porridge for breakfast & lunch was crackers & a tangerine, not sure what to make for dinner,i will probably make a chicken curry.

I am fighting the urge to stay out of the kitchen as i just want to eat, eat, eat today.

swanriver · 20/01/2010 13:37

if I taste just one biscuit I want more, so I'm staying off biscuits completely

don't worry, you need some choc for iron

lunch today was
one large carrot
some wenselydale cheese, and funnilyenough now I'm full...
porridge breakfast is a wonderful thing....fills you up for absolutely hours
will eat the rest of my lunch at teatime when I'm starving (some plain couscous)

ebayaddict · 20/01/2010 15:16

Today
B - banana
Gym - 1 hr spin class + 20 min step machine - 962 cals per hr monitor.
L - 2 wholemeal toast, 2 boiled eggs, packet walkers baked crisps, 15g bra green and blacks (always starving after a long spin class)
Dinner - proably salmon with new pots and broc

Yesterday was slightlu wonky as I was on a school governor course. They had danish pastries when we arrived at 9.30, biscuits at 10.30, lunch at 1 was rolls, quiche, salad and then profiteroles (sp?). Then they laid out scones with jam and cream at 3 before we finished at 4.30. I was a bit as surely they are better uses for the money to be spent in the schools rather than on conference facilities like that.

I didn't eat all that they offered, stuck mostly to the fruit bowl but did fall down and have half a scone.

tibni · 20/01/2010 15:37

Hi and thank you for the warm welcome,

Day 2 proper and I am doing ok. I know I have to be careful because I have a tendancy to over reduce my calories - yesterday I was about 350 below my food focus target and that isn't taking into account the exercise I did that gave me a daily net calorie total of 14 cals!

Work today and someone had left a box of choc eclair sweets on my desk and I managed to resist all day. Took a bottle of water in with me and drank a litre.

I have a very close friend who is also using food focus and we have swapped log in details so we can support each other - I will have to point her to this thread. She left a lovely comment on my food focus notes

I am going to smile at dh and try and get an hour at the gym tonight as I missed out on walking the dog this morning as I was in work so early.

DoingTheBestICan · 20/01/2010 18:25

Hi Tibni, you sound like you are doing really well.

I very nearly succumbed this afternoon but i just imagined everyone on here telling me not to & i managed to last till dinnertime.

I made a chicken in tomato sauce with cous cous for dinner & i feel comfortably full now.

Whats this food focus?

tibni · 20/01/2010 20:20

Food Focus is a free website. You log your weight / height and activity level and decide your goal loss each week. It then gives you a calorie goal per day.

Each day you log the food you eat (they have a search facility with most foods on and you can add foods) and log your exercise - again there is a menu with activities and calories burnt.

For me Food Focus works by giving me the facts about the food I eat - butter is my killer! Loads of calories for a tiny taste. It makes me think about the choices I am making without guessing.

Weighing and logging daily can become a pain - when I reached my goal last time I stopped using the site - and managed to put some of the weight back on.

The site works for me - when I use it.

Made it to the gym - 900 cal workout

Well done DoingTheBestICan for staying strong

Hi everyone, am joining you all. Am trying to lose weight after birth of ds (have no idea what I weigh yet - too scared to weigh myself - but going by how my clothes fit).

Today I had no time for breakfast so had two small ginger biscuits.

Lunch was vegetable chilli in a weightwatchers tortilla, followed by an apple.

Then I had a low fat hot chocolate and dinner was a small baked potato with beans and a tiny sprinkle of cheese.

Tonight I am having a small glass of weightwatchers wine.

Tried to do a fitness dvd, but ds woke up after 5 mins. Did lots of walking though.

shortandsweet2 · 22/01/2010 07:09

Morning all and welcome feeling and lady

Today:
B - Shredded wheat and milk
L - Tuna salad
D - Homemade pizza
S - Yoghurt and probably a couple of vodkas tonight!

Exercise - Cycling and gym workout.

I end up losing 1/2 pound - still peed off as I am down to lose 1.5 a week on food focus
