Hi ..I am new here, just started SW thought I could get some help and ideas here for my first week...(smile)

Rialentless · 03/07/2009 23:42

hi zahara, welcome

I should have posted an hour ago when I was having glass of wine number one, and potato cubes roasted in olive oil frylite and harissa...

I did salsacize earlier though, so hopefully the damage is accounted for. I blame DH (he has gone away for the nighty/2 to cater a wedding)

Hi Zahara Welcome

Ria... what's harissa?

I was reading the other thread earlier (the 5 stone one) & you're doing really well, it seems to be a very supportive thread too

I bought some WW orange & cranberry cookies this evening as I was hungry... it says 1.5 points per 2 so I thought maybe they wouldn't be too bad....but turns out they're 5syns for the two of them on sw!!!

I'm going to have to give them away as they're my absolute favuorites & I will eat them if they're in the cupboard!!

I'm going to have an original day tomorrow & have a steak with dh... he's been working nights this week, with just tomorrow night off before starting nights again on Sunday Hate being here alone so you have my sympathies Ria...on the other hand, it would kinda be nice to have a chef on hand!!

DH does do all most of our cooking though, so I shouldn't really complain

Rialentless · 04/07/2009 01:03

it's bad connie, because I'm such a non-foodie (and a disappointment to him food-wise!) when we're in-funds we eat too many takeaways cos he's too knackerd when he's working and I just don't care about food. I do like cooking, but only stuff that takes too much effort, so I don't bother if I can help it.

harissa comes in a jar from the supermarket spice section, it is like a paste of spices, moroccan I think, and it's lovely on roasted veg/potatoes. Though it's best mixed with a bit of olive oil. The potato chunks tonight made up for the lack of walkers sensations!

the 5 stone thread is great, though tere only seems to be 2 of us at the minute.

in one way it's good for me when DH is working (more time to myself after the kids are asleep to work out etc), but I get a bit miserable and cheer myself up with treats, I'm glad he doesn't work full nights though (some of the time he's away will be spent sleeping, or at least on facebook), that must be hard with meals and having to be quiet so he can sleep during the day and stuff,

I recently found old SW books too but it kinda made me sad because I lost a lot of weight then got ill and gave up. I also found the one from after my operation where I was two stone heavier than my previous starting weight (if that makes sense?) I knew I'd put the weight back on I'd lost but hadn't realised I'd also put on that much more, becasue I had been eating healthily. Remember crying when I got weighed and the consultant saying to me "just make a vow that's the last time you'll see it". What I didn't realise at the time was that I'd put the weight on because of PCOS and would go on to put on another 2 stone before it got under control.

Anyhow I'm on track to lose now - PCOS is under control and I've lost 10 lbs so far

riven, i did the same and it was my downfall. Weight has been creeping back on ever since. No harm in starting again though, I guess!

Can anyone tell me a HE weight for chicken breast please?

Rialentless · 04/07/2009 20:08

off the top of my head its about 4/6 oz isn't it?

been to DMs for a BBQ today, so not to plan at all. have felt really fat and bloated all day today (yesterday I felt slimmer) so didn't feel encouraged to be good. It's been really hot and I feel a bit ill TBH.

no excuse and I'm cross with myself. but am going to have a very early night and try again tomorrow.

oh heck, been to the local fair today, and ended up eating half a big bag of candy floss, 2 doughnuts, and a bite of DH cheese burger, and DH is currently manning the BBQ with non-SW-friendly burgers and sausages, a bottle of wine in the fridge and a bit bag of maltesers on the side.....oh well....

ConnieComplaint · 04/07/2009 21:17

I've been a bit odd today... had no breakfast as I slept to 11.50am!! (so did the kids as they had a late night last night)

I only woke 'cos the phone rang, my sister telling me she was on her way over!! Yes, had forgot I had asked her, niece & nephew for lunch!!

So whilst DH swanned off golfing I made dsis & niece a salad... my tummy was doing the salsa & I didn't want anything. I had a slice of roast beef & 1 spoonful of potato salad.

Then much later dsis went to chippy for tea... the kids had burgers n chips & she & I shared a small portion... I mean, I must have had 6 chips!!

That's it for me today. I have a pain in my tummy, I know I am a bit hungry, but I don't know what to have, what day I am on or how many syns would be in 6 chips!!

TitsalinaBumsquash · 04/07/2009 21:24

Just done next fortnights shopping, i did it nline becuase of my wrist i can't go myself, £130 poorer for 2 weeks! thats without meat from the Butcher! It a joke how much food my family eat!
I got all my SW things though so thats ok, had a good day today, Green day so have been filling up on Pasta. Think i may have lost another lb according to my scales but they are a bit tempremental.

Harissa is gorgeous btw.

I am finding SW easier than i thought, i am a right foody and was suffering at the loss of my Olive Oil but im managing.

Made the most delicious Potato Salad the other day, (wee DP did as i am broken, so i stood and tol him what to do!)

Just boil up some new Potatos and drain when they are soft, then when they are hot (very important!) put on a dollop of Low fat Creme Freche, the Zest of a Lemon and the Juice, Salt, Pepper and any fresh leafy herbs you hae Mint and Parsley and majoram work well.
You can put a tbsp of Olive Oli in but will up the syns, but without the olive oil its only 1 1/2 Syns when shared between 2 or 3 people and its gorgeous!

TitsalinaBumsquash · 04/07/2009 21:27

Oh i have to tell you about my Burger technique i have perfected to!

Get some Brown Bread from your HE and whizz it in a food prosessor whit what ever flavors you want in your burgers, (roasted red pepper and parsley are lovely) then simply squash together with your mince, form into burgers and spray with frylight then leave to firm in the fridge for an hour or 2.

That works with any combo of meat and herbs/spices.

Lamb with Rosemry and garlic
Pork with Chilli and Lemon
Chicken with Smoked papprika and Red Onion

Just add your flavours to the breadcrumbs in the whizzer and it takes all the work out of it!

AuntieMaggie · 04/07/2009 22:41

Thanks for all the food ideas!

Welcome Riven.

Had an awful day but to be fair I've only eaten a hifi bar and kfc.

ProfYaffle · 05/07/2009 09:05

Ooh, thanks for the recipes Tits, sound lovely!

evansmummy · 05/07/2009 09:59

Love the burger recipe, I do the same for meatballs, but never thought of counting the bread from an HE, I've been syning it. Great idea!

I really find it helps if you plan what you're going to eat each day, takes the worry out of things.

tullytwo · 05/07/2009 18:08

Wheres the 5 stone thread? I have @10 stone to lose so would love to chat to others who need to lose a huge amount.

I am struggling as maintained last week for some reason-and Iam still huge so should be losing weight more quickly at first not maintaining!

Hoping for aloss tomorrow as its weigh day.

Feel really heavy though iykwim-maybe period due? Have pcos so never know when I fluctuate etc which makes it harder also regarding weight loss.

Right moan over

Rialentless · 05/07/2009 21:36

5 stone thread here tully

glad the weekend is going well, or not, not good food-wise here but done 6.5miles int he the steepest bit of "Heartbeat Country" today, the steps up the hillsides were HUGE too (won't have done my dodgy back any good), it was SO hot, I must have sweated off at least a stone

lots of fruit in for tomorrow. All set for a day of damage limitation

Last night I was bad I ate some Nobbys Nuts And they're really high in syns... though I hadn't had many syns Thursday or Friday so if I can be good until WI day it might be OK.

Today has been a bit odd too.. still not feeling that great so I just had a kiwi for breakfast. Then we went to a local market & whilst Dh & kids ate doughnuts & sweets I had some water. Then on way home we stopped for our dinner.

I had a roast beef dinner with potatoes (there was butter in them 'cos I could taste it!) with carrots, brocolli & gravy. There was a yorkie pud on the plate with 2 roasties though I give them all to DH.

Didn't have a dessert, though snaffled one of dh's breadcrumbed mushrooms for starters....

I'm hungry now though & I don't know what to have. I think I am on an EE day which would mean I have a HE to eat. Or if I am on a green day it also means I have a HE to eat as I would use the roast beef as a HE (though I just had one small slice, give rest to dh)

You know, as I re-read what I wrote, I am ashamed of myself. Dh is also trying to lose weight...I'm clearly not helping matters

ProfYaffle · 06/07/2009 06:37

Connie - I've had the whole weekend off! Just ate what I wanted so I've had cider, duck chow mein, a snickers (really about that one, I haven't eaten a snickers for years and years) pork pie (but it was a posh, rare breed one!) bread and jam, the list goes on.

Funnily enough though, by yesterday I felt like I'd got it out of my system and was more or less back on track. Sw friendly breakfast and dinner, lunch out was a huge feta foccacia and a pint of cider but I still did half an hour on the exercise bike last night.

I think I'm just a bit bored atm, it's hard long term. Sometimes I just want to relax and enjoy life, like yesterday we were at a country show. So liberating to be able to just pick something I wanted to eat for lunch rather than trawling the whole show ground to find someone doing jacket spuds.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 06/07/2009 07:12

Oh shit, i had my shopping done and ready to deliver at 9am today, but the check i payed in last week hasn't cleared and i cant call Tesco untll 8 to warn them the payment wont go through. ARGH!!!!! Sodding Banks!!!!!!!!!!

AuntieMaggie · 06/07/2009 12:19

Ria - are you on the sparkly forum too? There are a couple of ladies there that have lost huge amounts on SW and I've been using them as inspiration.

One woman has lost 3 stone in 4 months. I think she might be one of those that don't have any days off though!

I was determined not to have any off time this weekend, but as ususal it went out the window.

So, back on track today...

Rialentless · 06/07/2009 12:32

Connie, I wouldn't worry too much, aside from the nuts it isn't bad, and if you're anything like me I can't stick to any diet when I'm feeling off. Just write it off and start afresh when you feel better.

I agree about just wanting to have a "normal" day sometimes.

AuntMaggie, I aren't on the sparkly thing, might look into it. I like it here though (and I think this is the longest in ages I've stayed on the thread and stuck with it)

connie - im so impressed that you mananged to actually move the yorkies onto someone elses plate, i would have eaten them before the waitress had even put the plate down!!

well ive lost 4lbs this week - despite my weekend off - but i suspect this will show next week!

12 days to go til i am a bridesmaid and still 6lbs off my target for that day, so I doubt I will make it - but I'm pretty proud of myself for getting so close!

evansmummy · 06/07/2009 13:05

What's the weight for a HE of new potatoes please?

Rialentless · 06/07/2009 13:35

next week I will use my books more closely!
